Diagnostic Test

1. The plot determines the conflicts of a story as it depicts the settings and circumstances of a
given situation. It usually introduces the disruption of sequential patterns or routines in the
story and mostly embodies its turning points.

2. There are many ways on how can a writer create the plot in a story one of the most
popular way is with the style of the German novelist Gustav Freytag, which is the
expanded version of Aristotle’s simpler concept of plot by adding two additional
components to the beginning, middle, and end: rising action and falling action.
Freytag’s dramatic arc, also known as Freytag’s Pyramid, includes the exposition, the
rising action, the climax or the middle of a story, the falling action and the resolution of
a story.

3. The plot of a story is arguably, the most important element of a story. As it is literally the
sequence of events that make up the story. A blueprint to a house and a backbone to
humans, essentially the plot serves as the anchor of the whole story.

Activity 1
Being ironic simply means you are indirectly caring for someone or about to make change for
that someone. In the two remarks, I would choose the latter which is” Is that your new dress? It
is pretty like a curtain!” because it may be look rag for others but it is pretty comfortable to hear
to knowing how humans innately feel embarrassment even though you compliment them. Satire
and Irony is important in some circumstances to convey message in an informal way to lessen up
the heavy atmosphere between the person talking. It is something a warning that you have to be
aware of in reflecting yourself as it delivers, perhaps, criticism or encouragement.

Activity 3: Reflect Upon

“The YOU-Turn”

Months into the new relationship Ariel has his thought bubbles on how to handle the
moodswings of Tide Cherryblossoms.
Activity 4:

1. On wedding night, the groom asked the bride, “I thought I was your first boyfriend. Why
are not you a virgin anymore?” The bride replied, “Of course, you are my first boyfriend,
the others were just customers.”
Answer:
“Love is sweet when past doesn’t affect your present”. Based on what I understand on this
phrase; it shows the emotion of the groom being shocked after knowing the truth behind his
bride. It reminds me of having a perfect relationship without stain but the moment that
mistakes stain the clean slate of relationship it happens to build disappointments, frustrations,
and feeling of being backstabbed. But I believe that love can overcome it all, if the groom
really loves his bride he will still choose to forgive her upon knowing the truth and help her
change the future for their family to build later on.

2. Three men died, but God gave them a chance to come back as anything they wanted. The
first guy said, “I want to come back as myself, but 100 times smarter.” So God made him
100 times smarter. The second guy said, “I want to be better than that guy, make me
1,000 times smarter.” So God made him 1,000 times smarter. The last guy decided he
would be the best. So he said, “God make me better than both of them, make me
1,000,000 times smarter.” So God made him a woman.
Answer:
“Behind every successful man there is a powerful woman.” I can say that God sees the last guy a
factor of making the first guys appreciate everything they have. I choose to have this as a theme
of this subject because I can tell how powerful is the influence of woman to man. Understanding
the picture, it shows how valuable a woman is compared to two guys who chose to be a thousand
times smarter coming back to life.
3. A priest died and went to heaven. Interested in ancient scripture scholarship, and having
eternity on his side, he decided to study all the languages to help him read the original
texts. Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and Latin. After becoming a linguist, he went to the
heavenly library to scrutinize the original Bible texts. All of a sudden, he started crying
out loud in the library. The angels rushed to him, only to find him huddled in a corner,
crying and muttering to himself, “An R! They left out an R!” Puzzled, one of the angels
asked him what the problem was. After collecting his wits, the priest sobbed again, “It is
the letter R… the word was supposed to be celebrate.

Activity 5
My favorite book is He’s into Her season 2 by Maxinejiji and she usually use 1st POV in her
books and actually most of it. Having an establish POV can help me understand well what I am
reading and it doesn’t distract my imagination. It will effectively help me to build my own style
of writing as it is my forte to express what my thoughts and ideas are.

Activity 6
Both “Lirio” and “Father Olan, God, and the Rain” used an omniscient 3 rd person POV as it
neutralizes the feelings, emotions, character, and the conflict happening in the story.

Activity 7

It is a story about drought and the events of El Nino (Extreme Drought in the Philippines). It’s
also about the priest in a certain town and was asked by many to pray for rain instead of a
devotion day for John the Baptist. People kept asking Father Olan to postpone about the talk of
John the Baptist and instead make a homily session to pray for rain. But father Olan refused as
he thinks that the devotion for John the Baptist was a lot more important that people’s need or
prayers for rain. It was then later as a lot of people from different islands came. They all came to
join the prayer for rain. Father Olan changed his mind and started praying for rain as well in the
time of El Nino. The day after, rain came falling downtown and people rejoiced as their prayers
to God have been answered. The message or moral of the story tells about how leaders should
interact with their people and not just themselves.
