Good morning trainees.

Introduction:
Welcome to Perpetual Succour Academy, Inc., thank you for choosing PSAI, the place and venue for accumulating the
knowledge and skills you desire for
By the way, cc my name is Ken Virgin L. Ferrolino and I will be your trainer for Carpentry NC II.

So, this training recognizes prior learning so that you won’t have undergo the same training again.

So, I have here the data gathering tools for trainees’ characteristics. This will help me to determine your background
experiences and knowledge so that your training will be customized according to your needs. Okay, please get one. I will

I also have here the self-assessment checklist. This will help me to determine your current competencies that is relevant
with this qualification. I will give you 20 minutes again to answer, please read the instruction carefully. Okay, time is up.

According to the questionnaire that I have here it seems that Ms. Ma. Joan has a relevant experience with carpentry. That
is good.

That is why Mr. Lorry you need to have this training so that you can have the experience.

Trainees’ Orientation:
Now, let us start our proper orientation for competency -based training for carpentry NC II
So, I have divided our topic into seven parts this morning
So, we are going to talk about:
 CBT
 Ten Principles of CBT
 The comparative analysis between traditional education and CBT
 Role of CBT trainer
 Roel of CBT trainees
 Qualification overview
 Competency Based Learning Material (CBLM)

Okay, let’s go to the first topic the CBT. What is CBT? CBT stands for Competency-Based Training. It is a training
delivery approach that focuses on the competency development of the learner as a result of training.
This means that CBT emphasizes most on what the learner can actually do and focuses learning
Outcomes rather than the learning process within specified time and it is learner-centered.

Now, let’s go to the ten principles of CBT. (enumerate the ten principles of CBT and explain at
least 3 principles of CBT@ PPT)
2. Learning is competency-based or modular in structure.
So, this means you have to finish and accomplish the first or particular module before you can
proceed to another module and you have to complete all the modules for you to qualify this
qualification.
3. Training delivery is individualized and self-paced.
So, that is why I have gathered your current competencies so that your training will be
personalized
according to your needs and it is self-paced so you will be the one responsible for your own
learning.
4. Training is based on work that must be performed.
This means that our training is related or is in accordance with the industry standards, what we do
here in our training is actually done in the industry.

So, those are the ten principles of Competency – Based Training. Do you have any questions?

Now, lets have the comparative analysis between traditional education and CBT.
So, there is a big difference between traditional education and CBT, so, let’s have those (PPT
presentation)
1. In traditional education, instructors focus on managing instruction, so, that means it is teacher-
centered while in CBT trainers focus on managing learning, so, that means it is learners-centered.
2. Most students enter at about the same time in traditional education wherein CBT trainees enter
a
various times throughout the year, so this is the one of the 10 principles of CBT that you can have
various entry and exit in our program.
3. Students all cover the same material, even though you actually done with the training or that
particular experience before you have to undergo or to do it again because it is done by everybody in traditional wherein
CBT we recognize that you already get that training so you don’t have to undergo the training again so you need to
proceed to another competency so that is CBT. Do you have any question with the difference?

My Role as a Trainer:
So, let’s go to another topic which is my role as a trainer.
So, I will serve as a team member so that I can diagnose your problems and I can help those who
really needs help, I will also stimulate motivation and I will also encourage you. I will recognize
your prior learning and also, I will give you rewards for your individual progress and
achievements.
Role of a Trainees:

 Learn at their own rate within program guidelines.
 Decide when they are ready to perform each task or demonstrate mastery of learning
 Trainee may receive credit or award in every competency/module completed

Qualification Overview:
So, we are talking about Carpentry NC II, So we belong to the Construction Sector with the
nominal
duration of 200 hours.

This qualification consists of competencies that a person must achieve that will
enable him/her to perform fabrication, installation and stripping of formworks, its components
and
supports.
Okay, if you have this qualification you can be a rough carpenter. DO you have any question for

Here are the competencies comprising this qualification, we have Basic, Common and Core
Competencies @PPT.

Core Competencies – these are the most important competencies for our qualification –

those: you need to acquire these skills for this qualification

Competency Based Learning Materials (CBLM)


Now, lets go to the CBLM the last part of or topic.
CBLM stands for competency based learning materials. It is s simply a well-designed and
carefully developed learning materials that give trainees detailed instructions to guide
them
through the learning process.

Monitoring Tools
We have monitoring tools so that you can monitor your progress also: progress chart and
achievement. The difference between the two is whenever you achieve particular learning
activity to achieve learning outcome

Pretest
Since you are done with the orientation, I am welcome you to the training proper. So, I will give you a Pretest
this will to determine your current competencies and so that your training will be personalize, so I will give you

 Contextual Learning this area is used to ensure your underpinning knowledge in carpentry is
provided especially during discussion.
 Trainers Resource Area this area houses the learning materials, the training regulations and
curriculum exemplars and this place where instructors produce training materials.
 Institutional Assessment Area where the recognition of prior learning is done and also
provides the mechanism of assessing the completion of competencies of a learner.
 Practical Work Area this is the area where the students acquire the knowledge and skills they
need.
 Learning Resource Area this area has an array of learning materials in print or non-print
learning materials.
 Distance Learning Area you can have print and non-print media that you can take at home
 Quality Control Area this area where various tests are conducted.
 Computer Laboratory this area has an array of computer units of which learners are provided
for them to learn and gain appropriate IT competencies.
 Support Service Area this area provides value-adding competencies for carpentry NC II
addressing underpinning knowledge skills in the particular competency.

So, I have here our training activity matrix, this will be our guide throughout the training process. For this day
(Student 2), you will be assigned in Institutional assessment area and Mr./Ms. You will be assigned here in our
contextual learning area. To those who check “YES” in the self-assessment check please present to me your
evidence.
(Student 2) According to your certificate of employment you are working as a rough carpenter in W&A
construction for 2 years and demonstrating competencies such as Fabricating formworks. That is good but I
still need to validate your competency through actual demonstration, okay.?

(Student 1) For you Ms. Joan please start with the first module on Assembling Formworks in carpentry NC II,
please read information sheet 3.1-1 on prefabrication form panel please answer self-check and compare your
answers with the answer key, if you have any question just ask me. Okay?

Okay, (Student 2) please come with me to the institutional assessment area for the validaton of your prior
learning. For the validation of your prior learning (student 2) I am going to give you written test, demonstration
and oral questioning. Is that okay? So, this is a 40-item test, I will give you 30 mins to answer please read the
instruction carefully, you may start now. Are you done? Okay, please pass.
For your demonstation give questions from beginner, intermediate and to advanced student. (While the
facilator is observing and recording the performance)
For oral questioning, give at least one question to the student
Okay, please give me a moment I’ll just check your paper. Mr.(student 2), according to your written test you got
a score of 36 out of 40 which is very good. For your demonstration
For your oral questioning, you answered the question very well according to the industry standards so based
on these evidences you are competent in this competency “assemble formworks” for that I will give this
certificate the certificate of achievement for successfully completing this competency so I will now record your
progress in progress and achievement chart. Let us go back to the contextual leaning area. (record the
achievement)
