How many times that the song repeated?

(Pupils will recite in chorus)

“It repeated 5 times, Teacher”

“So, it is repeated 5 times.”

b. Unlocking difficulties

Did you have any guess on what is our topic today?

(Pupils will recite in chorus)

“Repeating songs, Teacher”

Who has another guess?

(Pupils will recite in chorus)

“Repeat marks, Teacher”

“Very good, our topic for today is all about Repeat Marks.”

C. Lesson Proper

“Our lesson for today is all about Repeat Marks. So firstly, lets
identify it first.”

“Who can read the meaning of Repeat Marks?”

(Rae Ann is reciting)

“Okay, read it Rae Ann”.
“Repeat marks is a sign that
indicates a section should be
repeated.”

“The repeat marks are the signs or marks that we can see in a music
score. These repeat marks have a different use and different purposes.
By the use of repeat marks, you can see on what part of the song you
will repeat, they also used repeat marks so that the lyrics can’t be written
redundantly in a music. And the conductor will easily determine on
which part of the music they will repeat. To have a deeper
understanding, let’s discuss the different repeat marks.”

“We have a different Repeat Mark for forms, these are following; D.C
or Da Capo, Al Fine, D.C. Al Fine, D.S. or Dal Segno, Repeat
Symbol, and Repeat Sign.”

“Who can read the first repeat marks?”

(Geimenel is raising her
hand)
“Alright, Geimenel”

“Da Capo (D.C) indicates

that the musical piece is to be
repeated from the beginning
of the composition.”

“(Da Capo ("from the head" D.C) It is musical piece is to be repeated

from the beginning of the composition. In music the repeat marks are
sign that indicate a section should be repeated, it is easier to utilize the
repeat sign than to write all the notes again)”

“And in the Da Capo they are always together with the Al Fine (can
also called Fine), once you see the D.C. then you will definitely see the
Al Fine also. The Al Fine means end or stop here.”

“Who can read the next repeat marks?”

(Geimenel is raising her
hand)

“Alright, Geimenel”

D.C. Al Fine means that the

section is to be repeated from
the beginning up to the word
"Fine" or end.
“D.C. Al Fine means repeat the music from the beginning (i.e., the
head) and finish when Fine is shown.

(I already mentioned a while ago that DC and Fine (or Al Fine) are
always together. For our example we have here the Twinkle, Twinkle
Little Star. Usually it is 3 phrases, but it can be also written like this,
with the DC Al Fine here and Al Fine there. For you to understand the
DC Al Fine, let me sing the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. ('Twinkle,
Twinkle Little Star how I wonder what you are' "you can see here that
there are the repeat marks called Fine, so you can't stop right here" let
me continue, 'Up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky.'
"You can see here that there is also a repeat mark called D.C. Al Fine
so you will start again on the beginning of the song". 'Twinkle, Twinkle
Little Star, how I wonder what you are'. "Will you continue on the
next phrase? Of course not, you already see the repeat sign "Fine" so
you will stop right there)

“Did you have a question, none?”

(All pupils will recite in
chorus)

“None, Teacher”
“Let’s proceed to the next, Jefferson read the next repeat mark”

“Jefferson: Dal Segno (D.S)

indicates that the musical
piece is to be repeated from
“And here is the symbol of a Dal Segno.” the sign.”

“Dal Segno means (from the sign) D.S. means to go back to the Dal
Segno sign and repeat the section.”

“Is everything clear, my dear pupils?”

(All pupils will recite in
chorus)

“Yes, Teacher”

“Let’s proceed to the next, Annie read the next repeat mark”
“Annie: A repeat symbol is a
sign that indicates a section
should be repeated.”

And here is the Repeat Symbol of a Double Line Bar.”

“A Repeat Symbol or also a Double Line Bar is drawn with a double

bar line and two dots surrounding the middle line of the staff. It is
common to find two repeat symbols-one making the beginning of the
section to repeat (where the double bar line and two dots face right--
effectively, a 'begin repeat' symbol) and one marking the end (where
the sign faces the opposite way.)

For our example:

If the piece has one repeat sign in the end or in the end of the section
the performer must repeat the entire piece or the section from the
beginning.

In this example, a performer should play to the repeat sign, then turn to
the beginning, then continue on.

In the last example, a corresponding sign facing the other way

indicates to repeat the section that is enclosed between the two repeat
signs.

“Did you get it, children?”

(All pupils will recite in

chorus)

“Yes, Teacher”

“Let’s proceed to the last one, Alenah read the next repeat mark”

“Alenah: Repeat Sign means

to go back to a certain part of
the music (sometimes called
a 'measure') and play the
passage in question again.”

“If the piece has only one repeat sign, then that means to return to the
beginning of the music and repeat (either continuing on past the repeat
or stopping, if the sign appears at the end of the music). Sometimes a

bar with a repeat sign will be numbered above (usually 1) and then
followed by another numbered bar (2).”

“In the repeat sign, we have here what we called close bracket and
open bracket. So, this is the clue when you will repeat and sometimes
it also has a repeat dot. It means you will go back to the beginning.
And then you will proceed to the open bracket means to go on or
continue singing.”

“Do you have any questions?” (All pupils will recite in

chorus)

“None, Teacher”

D. GENERALIZATION

“So, if you really understand the lesson, what is a repeat mark?”

(One student will raise her

hand and answer the
question)
“Alright! A Repeat Mark is a sign that indicates a section should be
repeated. Then what are the different repeat marks?”
(Ruben is reciting)
“Yes, Ruben?”

“We have a different Repeat

Mark for forms, these are
following; D.C or Da Capo,
Fine, D.C. Al Fine, D.S. or
Dal Segno, Repeat Symbol,
and Repeat Sign”
“Very good, Ruben! It seems that you really understand our lesson for
