    Bulletin 5.12" 15K H2S L/W PRESSURE CONTROL EQUIPMENT

    PURPOSE
    This bulletin introduces the NOV Elmar 5.12” ID 15,000 psi H2S Lightweight Pressure Control
    Equipment (PCE).

    KEY FEATURES

    • 5.12” nominal bore pressure control equipment with Elmar 9.250”-4 STD ACME (6.500”
    seal diameter) E56 quick union connections.

    • Includes wireline valves (WLV) available in single, dual, triple, or quad configuration as
    required for wireline or slickline operations.

    • Triple WLV is up to 140kg lighter than other standard Elmar designs.


    • Designed, manufactured and tested with reference with API 6A Product Specification Level
    3 (PSL 3) and Performance Requirement level 1 (PR1)
    • Designed for H2S service and manufactured with NACE MR0175/ ISO 15156 compliant
    materials (API Material class EE or DD) where appropriate.
    • API Temperature class P, S, T, U & V (-29°C to 121°C)
    • The equipment can be specified for delivery in a purpose-built transport frame with the
    WLVs stored in protective cages.

    EQUIPMENT LIST
    Listed below is the latest standard range of Elmar 5.12” 15K H2S Lightweight PCE items and
    their key features.
    Wireline Valve: WLVs feature hydraulically actuated cylinders, manifold assemblies with
    pressure equalisation, grease and glycol injection and threaded E56 box upper and pin lower
    adapters. The threaded WLV adapters have a metal to metal primary sealing ring with a
    secondary elastomeric back up. Although originally designed to feature the Elmar E56 quick
    union, the adapters can accommodate any appropriately sized quick union, API flange
    connection or integral unions to suit customer requirements.
    The WLVs are intended to be used with Elmar Q-Guide rams, providing reliable positive
    alignment of the line during ram closure. Rams can be dressed for slickline or wireline
    operations with shear/seal or sealing function as necessary, or with Elmar Constrictor inner
    seals for multiline operations.

    Pump-In Sub Assy with E56 box and pin quick unions. This is the preferred configuration of
    union as it allows the PIS to be located above or below the E56 WLV.

    Quick Test Sub


    Quick Test Sub Assy with quick test port. This design has a 'hang-off' facility* on the upper body
    for the middle connection collar.

    Tool Trap
    Hydraulic Tool Trap assembly with external indicator. The design uses a single flapper
    configuration and the existing field proven hydraulic actuator used on all Elmar tool traps.

    Lubricator
    The Elmar 5.12” 15K Lubricator is a Lightweight type which consists of a high strength Stainless
    Steel tube with Steel E56 Box and Pin Adapters.

    The Lubricator is available in various lengths, up to a maximum of 18ft.


    The 5.12” 15K Lightweight Lubricator requires less maintenance than previous designs thanks
    to the sealing arrangement between the tube and adapters.
    Unlike previous designs, which have relied on a secondary O-ring to complement the primary
    metal-to-metal seal, the seal here is created solely with a mechanically-torqued metal-to-metal
    seal. The high torque applied to the connection eliminates the risk of the connection backing
    off during use, making it a semi-permanent connection which is only broken during a 5-year
    service, resulting in time-and-cost savings for the end user.

    DESIGN VERIFICATION
    The New Elmar E56 Quick Union has been designed using API 6A methods and optimised for
    weight-saving using the latest Finite Element Technologies.

    DESIGN VALIDATION (QUALIFICATION TESTING)


    The NOV Elmar 5.12” 15K Lightweight E56 Quick union and Lubricator have undergone
    extensive qualification tests as outlined below.
    1. Hydrostatic test at rated Test Pressure (22.5k)
    2. Gas test at rated Working Pressure (15k)
    3. Fatigue test at low pressure (300 psi): 100,440 bending cycles (maximum typical line pull)
    4. WP Gas Test: 15k (to verify seal integrity after fatigue)
    5. Hydrostatic Burst Test: Lubricator tube suffered a ductile failure at a pressure well in
    excess of 2 x Working Pressure
    6. Throughout testing, the adapter connections were subjected to 3 separate make/breaks at
    2,500 ft.lb torque with successful Working Pressure holds in between.
