A. Knowledge: Identify the health issues and concerns during puberty; height, weight
and hearing-related problems ;
B. Skill: Create a Venn diagram showing physical changes that occur in boys and girls
during the puberty stage; and
C. Attitude: Evaluate personal hygiene and sanitation.

I. Discussion

PHYSICAL CHANGES FOR GIRLS AND BOYS


As you grow, you will be experiencing different physical changes on your body. Listed
below are the physical changes that you can easily observe during adolescent’s stage.
Girls ages eight to fifteen years old will experience the following physical changes:

1. Height gains an average of 3.5 inches and weight increases because of fat
development. This occurs two years earlier than boys.

2. Breast development.

3. Hips and waist become more define.

4. Menstruation begins. Reproductive system matures.

5. Mood changes may occur.

6. Body hair grows in the pubic area, and in the armpit.

7. Sweat glands become more active, and body odour changes.

8. Acne may develop.

Physical changes in boys are affected by heredity, diet and health habits. These
changes may be seen when the boys are ages twelve and fifteen.
1. Height may gain 4.1 inches and weight increases.
2. Muscles become stronger.

3. Body hair grows in the pubic area, armpit, on the face and becomes thicker on the
legs.
4. Vocal cord gets thicker and longer and the voices deepen. And there is an
appearance of the Adam’s apple.
5. Sudden emotional and sexual feelings due to changes in testosterone level.
6. Sweat glands become more active, and body odor changes.

There are also emotional changes that affects young people and these are the
following:
1. They spend more time with their friends that their families.
2. They may have questions about sexuality.
3. They begin to feel some affections towards their opposite sex.
4. Some of them may become shy.
5. Young people may learn to keep secrets from their parents.
6. They can be easily hurt emotionally.
7. They begin to care much of their physical appearance.
8. Young people may not like to sleep with the same bed with their parents.
9. Some of them may love to read and watch love stories.
10. They begin to forget their childish plays.

What are the health concerns of many adolescents?

present. OME is typically not associated
with symptoms. Occasionally, a feeling of
fullness is described. It is defined as the
presence of non-infectious fluid in the
middle ear for more than three months.
