MINI TASK 1
CHARTING DISASTERS IN THE
PHILIPPINES

Disaster Readiness and

risk Reduction

MINI TASK 1
01:

Obtainment of a blank map of the Philippines with plotted

disaster occurrences using symbols.

AREAS THAT ARE PRONE TO EARTHQUAKES:
Ifugao Nueva Ecija
La Union Tarlac
Benguet Pampanga
Nueva Vizcaya Surigao del Sur
Pangasinan Davao Oriental

BASED UPON MY RESEARCH:

These provinces are at most risk of earthquakes
because due to the presence or nearness to
active faults and trenches.

Every year we encounter about 2000

earthquakes. Most of them are weak, but about
12% are felt and about 5 or 6 are very strong.

Earthquakes can strike any location at any time,

but history shows they occur in the same general
patterns year after year. Earthquakes in these
subduction zones are caused by slip between
plates and rupture within plates.

MINI TASK 1
02 part 1:

of my research discussing the distribution
Brief report of the result
of the disaster that I identified, along with frequency and pattern of
occurrence observed for each type of disaster.

AREAS THAT ARE PRONE TO VOLCANIC
ERUPTIONS:
Bataan Sorsogon
Cavite Camiguin
Camarines Sur Sarangani
Albay Sulu
Biliran

BASED UPON MY RESEARCH:

These provinces are either the sites of the most
active or potentially-active volcanoes, or their
land areas are small and can therefore be
affected entirely by an eruption.

There are several subduction zones of various

ages colliding slowly together near the Philippines,
so volcanic activity is frequent there.

The constantly erupting volcanoes are active. The

eruption is usually quiet but can sometimes be
violent.

of my research discussing the distribution
Brief report of the result
of the disaster that I identified, along with frequency and pattern of
occurrence observed for each type of disaster.

AREAS THAT ARE PRONE TO LANDSLIDES:

Mountain Province Lanao del Sur

Aurora Davao del Sur
Rizal Sarangani
Bukidnon
BASED UPON MY RESEARCH:
These provinces are prone to landslides because
there are many disturbances such as natural
triggers, intense rainfall, weathering of rocks,
ground vibrations created during earthquakes,
volcanic activity and man-made triggers.

The negative economic effects of landslides

include the cost to repair structures, loss of
property value, disruption of transportation

routes, medical costs in the event of injury, and

indirect costs such as lost timber and lost fish
stocks. Water availability, quantity and quality can
be affected by landslides.

02 part 3:

of my research discussing the distribution
Brief report of the result
of the disaster that I identified, along with frequency and pattern of
occurrence observed for each type of disaster.
