Degree of Comparison ( Tingkat Perbandingan )

a. Positive degree (tingkat sama): as ..adjective.as

S + V + as adjective/adverb as + O

 I’m as tall as him.

 You should practice English as often as you can.

 My house isn’t quite as big as Jenny’s (Jenny’s house is a little/ a


bit/slightly bigger than mine)

 Singapore isn’t nearly as big as Indonesia/ Singapore is nowhere near as


big as Indonesia (Indonesia is much bigger than Singapore)

b. Comparative degree (tingkat lebih): .adjective..er/ more ..adjective

S + V + adjective/adverb-er OR more adjective/adverb (+than+O)

 The blue house is smaller than the red house.

 This sofa is more comfortable than that chair.

 I should learn more diligently next year.


– I feel much better now.

– Santi is a little bit more imaginative than me.



c. Superlative degree (tingkat paling): adjective .est / most . adjective

S + V + the + adjective/adverb-est OR most adjective/adverb (+O in/of O)

 I think Captain America is the most handsome Avengers.

 Amanda is the smartest student in her class.

 Ahmed runs the fastest of all the runners.
