CHAPTER 3 – TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
3.1 Technicality of the project
The proponents had gathered all related research about the project and had brainstormed
about what technologies will be used. As the project is still ongoing, the proponents will still
search for tools and software that can help improve the development of the system.
The online student clearance system is a clearance process where the students can check
their status via online without using the traditional process. The project will be an IT related
study,so there will be terms or terminologies that only IT students and persons on the IT field can
understand. These are some of the technical terms that are being used by the proponents in the
project: Vertrigo, Administrator, CSS, Server-client, Apache, Php, MySQL, Database,
Functionality, SQLite, SQLiteManager, Photoshop, Web application, PhpMyAdmin, Xdebug.
Some of the terminologies being stated above are also the technology being used by the
proponents in the project.
3.2 Details of the technologies to be used
The proponents will be using Vertrigo server which is an application that can read the
server of web application to neither create nor edit online systems. Vertrigo server has been
chose by the proponents because it is developed as a highly professional application that is easy
to install and with package features.
These Vertrigo server features will also be used by the proponents to develop and
improve the proposed online student clearance system. These features are the following: Apache

which is the most popular HTTP server and the world’s most widely used web server software,
PHP which is a reflective programming language or server-side scripting language that is used
by the proponents for web development, MySQL is a relational database management system
(RDBMS) and is a popular choice of database for use in web applications, SQLite also a
relational database management system (RDMS) contained in a C programming language and is
a popular choice as embedded database software for local/client storage in application software
but not a client-server database engine, SQLite Manager is a multilingual web based tool that is
used by the proponents to manage SQLite database, PHP MyAdmin is a free and open source
tool written in PHP intended to handle the administration of MySQL with the use of a web
browser, and Xdebug a PHP extension which provides debugging and profiling capabilities.
3.3 How the project will work
The proponents had decided to use waterfall model in developing the proposed
online student clearance system, the first phase is planning. In the planning phase, the proponents
defined the problem based on the actual observation of the current manual clearance system at
ACLC College.
In this phase the researchers came up to this study as a solution to some of the common
problems of the students in the said institution.
The second phase is the analysis phase, the proponents would analyze the current manual
clearance system being used in the institution, investigate any problems associated with it and
evaluate alternative solutions.

The third phase is the design phase, the proponents planned to design and integrate the
network through online with the scripting and programming language. In this phase the
proponents decided that the application network design, user interface, and system interface
would be designed through Adobe Photoshop, HTML, CSS and design the database using
MySQL version 5.1.
The fourth phase is the implementation, the proponents implemented the system with the
identified training to the user such as and how to run the system by the administrator. In this
phase the results were determined and observed by running the system in a long period of time to
tests that students, faculty and staff would benefit the features of the proposed online clearance
system. The last phase of our waterfall model is the support, in this phase the proponents would
ensure that the system would be running or functioning after the installation. The proponents
would produce user’s manual and would help provide help in training users of the system.
Included here were the evaluation of the system in terms of its accuracy, effectiveness,
functionality, and security.
