WHAT’S A COFFEE SHOP?
A coffeehouse or coffee shop is an establishment
that primarily serves coffee of various types,
e.g. espresso, latte, and cappuccino. Some
coffeehouses may serve cold drinks, such as iced
coffee, iced tea, and other non-caffeinated
beverages. A coffeehouse may also serve food,
such as light snacks, sandwiches, muffins, fruit,
or pastries.
TYPES OF COFFEEHOUSES
COFFEE SHOPS
Coffee is usually served from behind the
counter in coffee shops. Coffee shops have a
focused menu displayed above the counter, and
primarily serve coffee and espresso-based
drinks, along with a small selection of snacks or
pastries. A condiment station with insulated
creamers, sugar shakers, and stir sticks is
available for customers to customize
their coffee to their liking.
CAFÉ
Cafés focus on food first, and serve coffee along
with it. Common food offerings you can expect
to see on the menu include omelets,
sandwiches, soups, pies, and other baked
goods. Coffee is a must-have beverage option,
but it's not necessarily high-quality coffee. The
customers of these establishments simply want
their coffee hot and fresh.
COFFEE BAR
Think of a cocktail bar but with coffee instead of
alcohol. A coffee bar is the type of
establishment that attracts coffee connoisseurs
and serves specialty coffee and tea drinks in a
bar-like setting. The "bartenders" are highly
skilled baristas, who have often gone through
special training to master their craft.

2. Consistently Serve a High-Quality Product
Over the last few years, "specialty" coffee has grown in scope from the traditional espresso
variations and cold-blended drinks to include new trends like CBD infusions, cold brew, nitro,
ready-to-drink (RTD), and with all manner of non-dairy additions. Sustainability is also valued by
consumers more than ever, which in the coffee industry means fair trade beans and eco-friendly
packaging and practices.
TIP: Just how important is design? Considering the rising influence of social media
advertising, a good-looking space may get lots of attention, and an especially quirky or
unique aesthetic may even draw crowds for Instagram credit alone.
