Patches for Oracle Tutor

There are three categories of downloadable Tutor Content:

• Software
• Model Documents
• Courseware documents

This content is deployed on Oracle's support site as ‘Patches for Oracle Tutor’. There
are over 100 individual Patches for Tutor on Oracle's support site, so if you are
searching for a specific category of content, it is best to refine your search using the
Advanced Search mode and the description field.

The Tutor Patches are identified as follows:

• Software patches are always preceded by the word "SOFTWARE" in the title of
the patch. These include base installations and patches of the two Tutor
Software tools, Tutor Author and Tutor Publisher.
• Tutor model documents are always preceded by the words "MODEL
DOCUMENTS" in the title of the patch. These include procedures for the E-
Business Suite, Process Manufacturing, Generic Business Processes, and other
functionally specific sets of business process documents. There are also
translations of model documents provided for several languages.
• Tutor courseware documents are always preceded by the word
"COURSEWARE" in the title of the patch. These are functionally specific sets of
educational material such as courseware for Financials, Order to Cash or Daily
Business Intelligence.

Searching for Tutor Patches

As of 01 April 2008, the platform attribute for ALL Tutor patches has changed
from Microsoft Windows 32-bit Client to Microsoft Windows 32-bit. Starting from the
support home page, do the following:

1. Select the tab: Patches and Updates

2. In the patch search region, select the Search tab
3. Select Product or Family (Advanced Search)
4. Product or Product Family: Tutor (do not select User Productivity Kit and Tutor)
5. Release:
- Select Applications 11i for 11i courseware or model documents
- Select Applications R12 (other) for Apps Unlimited or R12 model documents,
R12 courseware, and the latest Author & Publisher software
6. Filter: Description: Enter one of the following COURSEWARE or MODEL
DOCUMENTS or SOFTWARE to narrow the search for a particular type of patch.
If you want to see all Tutor patches, leave this field blank.
7. Filter (click on the plus symbol on the right to add filters): Platform:
Select Microsoft Windows (32-bit)
8. Select Search (it may take a minute, the searching timer is in the upper right
corner of the search results)

If your search is successful, you should save your search so that you do not have to
enter all of the fields the next time. Simply select Edit Search, then select Save and
name the search. The next time you click on the patches button, your saved search will
be available. You may want to create four saved searches: one for all Tutor patches, one
for courseware, one for software, and one for model documents.

Also note that the column headings in the patch search form are active. You can click on
one of the column headings to sort the list of patches by that column heading. It is
recommended that you do NOT sort by date - in the past, a number of older Tutor
patches were reuploaded to Metalink in order to consolidate under the same platform,
and this changed the upload date of some patches that were originally uploaded in 2001
and 2002. The patch number is a better indicator of whether a patch is recent or not - the
higher the number, the more recently the patch was created.

The current patch numbers are:

This version supports Word 2000/XP/2003/2007

• Tutor Author 12.2 patch number 9075186 (full install)

• Tutor Publisher 12.2 patch number 9075187 (full install)
• Oracle eBusiness Suite R12 process documents patch 6953710
• Applications Unlimited process documents patch 6953729

Search for other model documents and courseware using the instructions above
Select courseware documents for EBS R11i and R12 are released as separate patches
on Metalink. Each patch contains a spreadsheet that lists the source files that make up
the course.
Use the Advanced Search mode in Metalink to find just the courseware patches.

Position on Courseware Content

The Tutor product team does not create the courseware files. The product development
teams for the various application products create the courseware files. That means, the
Finance product writers create the course material for the Finance applications. The
CRM product writers create the course materials for the CRM products. Course material
is not updated with every point release. As a result, the courseware patches provided
with the Tutor license cover varying application point releases making it very difficult to
track which course covers which application point release. As course files are updated,
the older course material is replaced with the new. The Tutor team does not maintain
multiple versions of the courseware for download on Metalink. Much like the positioning
of the model documents, the courseware is provided with the expectation that each
company will modify it to reflect the features they use of that application. "Can
courseware created for release 11.5.10 be used to train on the R12 apps release?" Yes.
But the content will have to be reviewed and modified to reflect the R12 features that the
company chooses to implement.

ORACLE TUTOR README

Note to Word 2007 Users

-----------------------
Please make sure you read Chapter 1 "Getting Started" of the
Tutor Author User Manual, specifically the section
"Using Office 2007 with Tutor R12.1 Software" before using
Tutor with Word 2007.

Installation Instructions
------------------------------------------------------
If you are installing to a shared server such as Citrix,
Tarantella, or Terminal Server, please read the instructions
in the Author and Publisher user manuals.

If you are installing from a CD, choose the appropriate

product from the installation screen, then goto step 5.

If you are installing from a patch downloaded from

Metalink, then goto step 1.

1. Download the patch from Metalink to a temporary

directory.

Unzip to a temporary directory (do not unzip to the

Tutor directory).

It is suggested that you download the Author patch

to C:\Temp\Author and the Publisher patch to
C:\Temp\Publish.

2. Uninstall Tutor Author and/or Tutor Publisher if

necessary.

If you are uninstalling Tutor Author, you should

do a search on your system for Author.dot,
AuthorPDF.dot, and AuthorPPT.dot and delete them
if found.

3. Open the zip file or the directory and locate

Setup.exe.

Some Tutor installations have more than one

Setup.exe. You need to find the Setup.exe that is
not in a subdirectory (look in the path field - if
it's blank, then it's the correct file).

4. Open Setup.exe.

5. Choose the appropriate language.

6. Follow the prompts in the installation.

7. Read the readme file at the end.

Known Issues
------------
SYMPTOM: User opens Tutor Author from the
desktop or Start\Programs icon and Word opens a
blank page without loading the Author menu and
toolbars.

Cause: Microsoft Office does not place the template

directory location in the registry by default. Thus,
unless the user has changed the template location in
Word, the template directory location is not available
to the installation.

The installation will prompt the user for a default

template location, and, based on the user's agreement,
will place the Author templates in that location.
Then the installation will write that string to the
registry.

However, in some cases - most notably in systems where

the user has a network (shared) version of Word or
the user's template directory has restrictions, Word
will not recognize the template directory to which
the Author templates have been installed.

Workaround:
A) Search for the Author templates (Author*.dot).
Once located, note the directory path.

B) Open Word.

C) Navigate to Tools > Options > File Locations.

D) Select Usertemplates > Modify.

E) Navigate to the same location as the Author

templates.

F) Select OK.

G) Select OK.

H) Exit Word.

I) Open Author from the icon.

SYMPTOM: During installation, the user receives a message

to manually install the TutorDAV.dll OR after opening
Author for the first time, the user receives a message
asking for a password OR the user receives a message
about a compile error.

SYMPTOM: User needs to manually register the

TutorDAV.dll file after installation.

Cause: the file may have been locked during install.

Solution:
1. Close all open applications.
2. Locate \Tutor\Author\Resource\TutorDAV.dll.
3. Note the location of TutorDAV.dll.
4. Navigate to Start > Run.

5. Type the following string

regsvr32 "C:\Tutor\Author\Resource\TutorDAV.dll"

If you have installed Author in some other location,

you will need to change the directory path accordingly.

6. Press ENTER.

You should see the following message box:

RegSvr32
DllRegisterServer in C:\Tutor\Author\Resource\TutorDAV.dll succeeded.

If you do not receive this message box, look at the information you
typed
into the commandline: are there any typos, is the case correct, is the
path correct, are the apostrophes in the correct location?

SYMPTOM: In non-English HTML documents, the new text strings such

as "Desk Manual Index" appear as English rather than the
appropriate translation.

Solution: Locate Author.rul on the user's system in the

\Tutor\Author directory. Locate the appropriate language and
provide the translations for the last six strings.
