TITLE: Division of Decimals

OBJECTIVES:
A. Divide whole numbers with quotients in decimal form,
B. Divide decimals up to hundredths place,
C. Estimate the quotient of decimal numbers.

CONCEPT NOTES:

A. When dividing two whole numbers, the quotient may be a decimal. Affix
zeros in the dividend to get the actual or desired number of decimal places
in the quotient.
B. To divide a decimal by a whole number, follow these steps:

 Divide like whole numbers.

 Place the decimal point of the quotient directly above the decimal point of
the dividend.
 To divide a decimal by another decimal, follow these steps:
 Make the divisor a whole number by multiplying both the divisor and
dividend by the same power of 10.
 Place the decimal point of the quotient directly above the decimal point of
the dividend after multiplying by the power of ten.
 Divide like whole number.

C. To estimate the quotient of decimals:

 Round off the dividend and the divisor to the nearest compatible whole
number before dividing.
 Compatible numbers are numbers close to the dividend and divisor that
are easy to divide.

EXERCISES:

A. Directions: Find the quotients.

1. 362÷5 = 4. 2.17÷7=

2. 8,379÷6= 5. 4.8÷0.6=

3. 9.43÷4.1= 6. 30.25÷0.55

B. Directions: Estimate, then place the decimals in the quotients.

1. 18.36÷6 = 3. 3.825÷0.9=

2. 443.75÷5= 4. 256.2÷4.2=

D. Directions: Solve the problems following the steps in solving one-step
