Antelope display different defensive behavior based on their size, habitat, number, and species. The smaller
solitary antelope tend to live in dense forested areas and these species of antelope defend themselves by hiding. The
duiker antelopes get their name: from this species' ability to dive into the vegetation. Gazelle-sized antelope run and
leap, and some species of antelope exhibit their unique behaviour of pronking or stotting. Large antelope congregate
in larger herds and can depend on running as group defense.

The antelope is found in a wide range of habitats, typically woodland, forest, savannah, grassland plains,
and marshes. Several species of antelope have adapted to living in the mountains and rocky outcrops, a few species
of antelope have adapted to deserts (both hot and cold), and a couple of species of antelope are even semi-aquatic
and these antelope live in swamps.

Avalanche: Thunder in Mountains

People who ski face a constant danger. They practice their sport high in the mountains. The threat of an
avalanche is always present.

An avalanche is a huge mass of snow. This snow suddenly loosens and slides down. the mountain's slopes
in a rush. It buries skiers, buildings, and all in its path. At the same time, it makes a noise like thunder.

The snow falls because it is unstable. The reason may be heavy winds, melting snow, earthquakes, or loud
noises.

In the winter, a huge mass of dry, powdery snow can suddenly snap. It picks up speed on the slopes until it
travels at 100 miles an hour. But the highest risk comes during early spring. Wet snow can break loose as it begins to
melt.

During any season, loud sounds or voices can make a huge slab of solid snow crack and split into falling
chunks.

It is hard to know when an avalanche will hit. Sometimes, experts will try to force smaller ones to loosen
when no one is near. They set off explosions. These reduce the heavy build up of snow. This makes it safer for
skiers. Man made barriers and trees can also ease the impact of an avalanche. In Europe, the Alps are known for
their dangerous avalanches.

Question 16 (1 point)

he invention of rockets is linked inextricably with the invention of 'black powder'. Most historians of technology credit
the Chinese with its discovery. They base their belief on studies of Chinese writings or on the notebooks of early
Europeans who settled in or made long visits to China to study its history and civilisation. It is probable that, some
time in the tenth century, black powder was first compounded from its basic ingredients of saltpetre, charcoal and
sulphur. But this does not mean that it was immediately used to propel rockets. By the thirteenth century,
powderpropelled fire arrows had become rather common. The Chinese relied on this type of technological
development to produce incendiary projectiles of many sorts, explosive grenades and possibly cannons to repel their
enemies. One such weapon was the 'basket of fire' or, as directly translated from Chinese, the 'arrows like flying
leopards'. The 0.7 metre-long arrows, each with a long tube of gunpowder attached near the point of each arrow,
could be fired from a long, octagonal-shaped basket at the same time and had a range of 400 paces. Another
weapon was the 'arrow as a flying sabre', which could be fired from crossbows. The rocket, placed in a similar
position to other rocket-propelled arrows, was designed to increase the range. A small iron weight was attached to
the 1.5m bamboo shaft, just below the feathers, to increase the arrow's stability by moving the centre of gravity to a
position below the rocket. At a similar time, the Arabs had developed the 'egg which moves and burns'. This 'egg'
was apparently full of gunpowder and stabilised by a 1.5m tail.

It was fired using two rockets attached to either side of this tail. It was not until the eighteenth century that Europe
became seriously interested in the possibilities of using the rocket itself as a weapon of war and not just to propel
other weapons. Prior to this, rockets were used only in pyrotechnic displays. The incentive for the more aggressive
use of rockets came not from within the European continent but from far-away India, whose leaders had built up a
corps of rocketeers and used rockets successfully against the British in the late eighteenth century. The Indian
rockets used against the British were described by a British Captain serving in India as ‘an iron envelope about 200
millimetres long and 40 millimetres in diameter with sharp points at the top and a 3m-long bamboo guiding stick’. In
the early nineteenth century the British began to experiment with incendiary barrage rockets. The British rocket
differed from the Indian version in that it was completely encased in a stout, iron cylinder, terminating in a conical
head, measuring one metre in diameter and having a stick almost five metres long and constructed in such a way
that it could be firmly attached to the body of the rocket. The Americans developed a rocket, complete with its own
launcher, to use against the Mexicans in the mid-nineteenth century. A long cylindrical tube was propped up by two
sticks and fastened to the top of the launcher, thereby allowing the rockets to be inserted and lit from the other end.
However, the results were sometimes not that impressive as the behaviour of the rockets in flight was less than
predictable.

Question 20 (1 point)

A yoyo is a toy consisting of a thick grooved double disk with a string attached to its center axle that is
made to fall and rise to the hand by unwinding and rewinding on the string.

It is believed that the yoyo most likely originated in China. The first historical mention of the yoyo, however,
was from Greece in the year 500 B.C. These ancient toys were made out of wood, metal, or painted terracotta disks
and called just that, a disc. It was customary. when a child turned of age, to offer toys of their youth to certain gods.
Every yoyo has a number of different parts which make the yoyo spin, stay together or hold the bearing in
place. Body is the main art of yoyo. It comes in two halves which rew together using the axle. The most mmon
designs found today are imperial, sed for looping tricks, and butterfly, used for string tricks and most other styles of
play. The yoyo string connects you to your yoyo. Axle is the threaded component of your yoyo that joins the two
halves of the yoyo body together. Bearing placed right in the middle of the yoyo. Response system makes the yoyo
spin and come back to your hand. There're several types of response and we cover them in their own special section.
Most of the response system do wear out and has to be changed regularly. Spacer (or bearing seat) holds the ball
bearing in place so it can spin freely. Some yoyos have one space on each side (usually plastic) which centres the
bearing. Spacer is usually removable.

Yoyos are made from several different materials. Yoyos from injection plastic are the most affordable people
can buy. Yoyos made from injection plastic have two advantages - price and durably. Wooden yoyos are usually
colector items or intended for "fixed axle" style of play. There are also many yoyos made from delrin and aluminium.
Metal weight rings on metal yoyos are also a trend.

Question 28 (1 point)

The invention of rockets is linked inextricably with the invention of 'black powder'. Most historians of technology
credit the Chinese with its discovery. They base their belief on studies of Chinese writings or on the notebooks of
early Europeans who settled in or made long visits to China to study its history and civilisation. It is probable that,
some time in the tenth century, black powder was first compounded from its basic ingredients of saltpetre, charcoal
and sulphur.

The antelope is a deer-like mammal found in Africa, Asia, and parts of the Americas. Unlike deer that renew
their horns annually. the antelope has strong permanent horns, that antelope mainly use to defend their herd or to
fight other antelopes.

An antelope tends to get to between 8 and 10 years old in the wild although they have been known to live
for longer when kept in captivity. Many antelope individuals, however, wouldn't last into old age in the wild as
antelope are a key target for many large carnivorous mammals, such as lions, hyenas, and crocodiles.

Many antelopes could not live for longer in the wild because....

 c

Question 42 (1 point)

From the text, we know that avalanche is

a thunder
 a
a name of mountain
 b
a huge mass of snow
 c
a kind of place in the mountain
 d
a loud, of voice heard in the mountains
