Mtas Field Auditors Qualifications and Details
Purpose
The primary purpose of MTAS Field Auditors is to gather evidence to evaluate the validity and reliability of
the assessment. Since the assessment is scored by the Test Administrator at the school site, it is critical
that the Test Administrator be properly trained in the assessment and be able to apply that training
consistently when assessing each student. Likewise, it is critical to the state that all Test Administrators
apply this training consistently across the state. MTAS Field Auditors serve as evidence-gatherers; their job
is to obtain evidence that will determine 1) the extent to which the training of the administration was properly
implemented and 2) the consistency of the administration for students across the state.
Qualifications
It is the goal of MDE to enlist field staff who are experienced in assessment practices, understand the
characteristics of qualifying students, and have professional development expertise sufficient to provide
technical assistance when needed in a school setting. It is also important that Field Auditors show discretion
in their interactions with faculty, staff, and students and are respectful of diverse populations.
MTAS Field Auditors must have the following qualifications to serve on behalf of MDE:
Minimum Qualifications
To protect, to the extent reasonably possible, the health and safety of our employees, school staff, and
students from the direct threat resulting from the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace and to members
of the public, MDE employees and contractors must provide proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 or
weekly negative Covid tests.
Desired Qualifications
Current or retired licensed teacher or an administrator with special education licensure or with

or within multiple regions. The following serve as the 9 regions based on the educational service
cooperatives serving the regions:

Region 9 (Mankato)
Region 10 (Rochester)
The trainings are available in Pearson’s Training Management System (TMS) (https://mn.tms.pearson.com).
MDE will notify auditors when the trainings are available and verify training completion in the TMS.
Compensation
MTAS Field Auditors are compensated in the following manner:
MTAS Field Auditors are compensated for work that is anticipated to take between three to six days, which
includes scheduling audits, travel time, and school observations. Auditors may work with MDE to request
additional days and sites.
Additionally, auditors who enter all observation data online into the MTAS Audit website will also receive an
additional $100.

Reimbursement
MTAS Field Auditors are reimbursed for mileage, meals, and miscellaneous expenses according to current
