The aforementioned seminar was divided into two sessions. The morning
session was attended by GFPS members from Junior High School Department; on
the other hand, the afternoon session was participated by GFPS members from the
Senior High School Department.
The seminar started with the singing of the National Anthem conducted by
Sir Jesustino T. Javier, Teacher – I, followed by a prayer led by Mam Rhea D.
Duldulao, Teacher – II, subsequently, an opening remark in the voice of Ma’am
Sherree Ann A. Constantino, Head Teacher – III, AP.
Ma’am Belinda, the school principal, took the floor to give a melodious
message. She accentuated the importance of GAD in the school and even in the
community. She added that school must be an instrument to inculcate to the
students' gender equality. Moreover, Ma’am Baldedara took time to present to the
teachers the school GAD plans last school year that have been successfully
accomplished. She began by sharing how the school productively held face-to-face
and virtual In-Service Training (INSET) focusing on gender equality, opportunities,
constraints, rights, and powers. She mentioned also that another interesting topic
discussed from last year’s INSET was creating a reporting mechanism and referral
system for abused women and exploited children. In addition, she stressed out that
promoting health and mental awareness was also tackled last year. Aside from
meaningful INSET, Ma’am Belinda cheerfully imparted another GAD unlocked plan,
the distribution of Covid – 19 essentials to school personnel which included boxes
of facemasks, face shields, bottled alcohols, handwash, and thermal scanner with
alcohol dispenser for the school. This was part of the roster of GAD plans
considering the continuous threat of the virus especially since teachers are prone
and exposed to physical contact due to the demand for modules distribution and
retrieval. Lastly, the renovation of comfort rooms both in Junior High School and
Senior High School buildings served as the concrete output from GAD’s plan
wherein the students would appreciate using once the face-to-face is back. Ma’am
Belinda noted that the conduct of INSET, distribution of Covid-19 essentials, and
renovation of comfort rooms encapsulated the successful effort and collaboration of
the teachers and school to check each box of the target plan in GAD despite the
current unprecedented health crisis. She ended her words by expecting that the
school would do the same this year and would even accomplish more worthwhile
plans and activities for the welfare of the whole school community.
To condition the mind and body of the GFPS members for the session,
Ma’am Dona V. Agustin, Teacher – II, actively led the energizer.
The discussion proper began with the presence of the prolific speaker,
Ma’am Tagumpay S. Puno, Head Teacher – III, Mathematics, who expounded GAD
Analysis Tools since the main goal of the seminar was to refresh the minds of the
members about the GFPS especially in this time of pandemic. She started her
discussion by tracing back the historical roots and growth of Gender and
Development and gave emphasis on the legal mandates and basis of GAD.
Before heading to the next speaker, the GFPS members had their sumptuous
snacks. After a short break, the discussion proper resumed with the articulate
discussant, Ma’am Emelou A. Centeno, Teacher – II. She shared her knowledge
about Gender Equality, Opportunities, Constraints, Right and Power. She
unmasked the recurring and new gender related issues and concerns of men and
women in society particularly in school amidst the global health crisis. She
provided various examples to illustrate gender differences in equality, inequality,
biases and prejudices; be it in school or real-life setting. Furthermore, she
elucidated the gender awareness and sensitivity. Aside from that, the members
we're also equipped with the ways of properly acknowledging gender differences
and promoting gender sensitivity in school setting.
The attendees left the room filled with knowledge about Gender and
Development after getting revitalized in the abovementioned session. They were also
enlightened with skills in the practical application of gender-related concerns and
issues in school and in the real-life setting.
