2.0) INTRODUCTION
Tool bit
The term tool bit generally refers to a non-rotary cutting tool used in metal lathes, shapers,
and planers. Such cutters are also often referred to by the set-phrase name of single-point
cutting tool. The cutting edge is ground to suit a particular machining operation and may be
resharpened or reshaped as needed. The ground tool bit is held rigidly by a tool holder while it
is cutting.
Materials
-Steel
Originally, all tool bits were made of high carbon tool steels with the appropriate hardening
and tempering. Since the introductions of high-speed steel (HSS) (early years of the 20th
century), sintered carbide (1930s), and ceramic cutters, those materials have gradually
replaced the earlier kinds of tool steel in almost all cutting applications. Most tool bits today
are either HSS or carbide.
Grinding machine
A grinding machine, often shortened to grinder, is one of power tools or machine tools used
for grinding. It is a type of machining using an abrasive wheel as the cutting tool. Each grain of
abrasive on the wheel's surface cuts a small chip from the workpiece via shear deformation.

Marks
1) Always wear safety equipment before starting the grinding work such as safety
googles, safety shoes, safety gloves and safety jacket.
2) Must prepare coolant before grinding the tool bit so that the tool bit is always in a
cold state and not hot to hold.
3) Never adjust the workpiece or work mounting devices when the machine is
operating.
4) When learning how to use a machine, listen very carefully to all the instructions
given by the teacher. Ask questions, especially if you do not fully understand.
5) Must keep distance your finger from the grind machine.
6) Ensure all the equipment are in good condition and safe before use.
7) Make sure to clean the machines and the space around the workplace after
finished doing your work.
8) Return the tools after finishing the work to the right place.

7) Last step student can fix round the nose of the tool
bit. A small nose radius allows you to turn into tight
corners. A large nose radius produces better
surface finishes. Create a nose radius that is
appropriate for the tool bit you are creating.

8.0) CONCLUSION
As the conclusion, the objective for this practical of tool bit is achieved student know the
safety precaution when use the grinding machine and can applied in the workshop. Next
student know how to grind the new tool bit by using grinder machine in proper way. After
that, student can improve skills in using a grinding machine. Lastly, student able to find out
how to make the right angle for the tool bit.
