ABSTRACT:
A vending machine is a machine that dispenses items such as snacks, beverages, alcohol,
cigarettes, lottery tickets to customers automatically, after the customer inserts currency or
credit into the machine. The vending machine prototype that has been developed consists of
the following a) RFID based user recognition system b) Spring based dispensing mechanism
using 2 motors controlled by IR sensors. The user can register his/her choice of product
using two externally connected switches. Once the product is selected and user is identified,
the account balance is checked to ensure that it will be sufficient to complete the transaction.
The motors of the dispensing unit are controlled using an electro-mechanical drive (relay)
operated using a transistor connected to the microcontroller. Each motor drives a spring
which moves the product stacked between its turns and once a product reaches the brim, it
falls down the dispenser. The falling product intercepts an IR sensor which gives signal to
the microcontroller to stop the rotation after one unit is dispensed. If the balance is
inadequate, the user gets an alert on his mobile phone. The account can be recharged after
paying the concerned amount to the vending machine operated who maintains a secure code
for recharging the accounts using the GSM module. The customer can continue hassle free
purchase thereafter.

ODUCTION:
Now a day’s client needs to commit to obtain something from the super market, looking
complicated, food order, etc., use majorly charge account credit, credit card, UPI payment,
case payment to avoiding the carrying the money and waiting time of standing queue for
paying their expenses. In milk purchases from milk store currently a days waiting time is
incredibly a lot off, thanks to problem in milk measure and collection money payment of
milk for each individual client. For avoiding this drawback oftenness identification card area
unit used. Before victimization this card initial got to recharge the cardboard. Each
individual client got to obtain separate RFID card. During this card simple to hold like
charge account credit and master card. When client got to show this card for client
identification, when victorious identification milk pump the milk through milk flow meter up
to desired amount.

History
 Alex roberston has been credited with developing and building the first automatic
teller machine in USA .
 The first ATM called Bankograph was installed in barkely bank in north London on
27th June 1967.
 After that it was later countries like Japan , Sweden ,U.k credite in developing first
cash machine.

ATM Card:
 It is a plastic ATM card with a magnetic strip .
 It is contains a unique card number and identity information .
 It also know a cash card, bank card, client card, key card.
 This card issued by bank.

The first ATM machine

Logging on step-by-step:
Step 1. Look for the slot where you will insert your card. It is often brightly lit to make it easy to find. It will
usually have a picture of a banking card under it so that you can see which way around to insert yours.

Step 2. Insert the card firmly but gently. Many ATMs will pull the card in after the first little bit. If you
change your mind, you can press Cancel on the keypad and your card will be ejected.

Step 3. After a pause while the ATM reads your card, it will invite you to enter your PIN. Enter the PIN
using the physical buttons on the keypad and then press the Enter or OK key. Don't forget to cover your
hand.

Step 4. After the ATM checks your PIN, you will see a list of things you can do on the ATM. Generally,
these will include withdrawing money, checking your balance and transferring money between accounts.
Sometimes other options, such as making a deposit, are available.
Components of ATM:

Card Reader:
 If there will be no card reader, then ATM card cant not be read so no
transaction can be done by machine.
 ATM card is required to swipe through this card reader this card reader slot.
After swiping card it captures the accounts information through magnetic stripe of
ATM.
 After retrieving the correct information of your account, card reader information to the
host processeor for further process.

Host processor :
 Host processor :
 Host processer is the heart of ATM machine.
 In contacts the bank server and retrievses your accounts details such as available
balance, previous transactions, PIN etc.
 It is verifying PIN number and if it matches with the provided PIN number from the
bank server, you are allowed to make the.
 To take your PIN and other requests from user, ther will be a keypad or touch pad. To
take your PIN and other requests from user, ther will be a keypad or touch pad.
KEYPAD/TOUCHPAD :
 Key pad and Touche pad is responsible for taking input from the user.
On this pad, numbers and few other keys such as clear,OK etc, will be
placed.
 Key pad transfer your inputted data to host controller to process the request.

SPEAKER :
 Speaker is placed in ATM machine which is responsible for audio aletrs.
 When you press any, this speaker confirm the pressing of key producting a beep sound
alert.
 It assures you that the key pad is working.

CRT OR LCD SCREEN:

 Another major integral part of the ATM machine is its Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) or
Liquid Crystal Diode (LCD) screen.
 CRT or LCD screen is responsible for visual display of your transactions. It is
responsible for displaying your name, entered amount, account number etc.
 Without CRT or LCD display screen, the transactions from ATM machine would have
become more time consuming and difficult.

Receipt printer:
 Receipt printer is responsible for the printing of your transaction's receipt.
 It will print whether the transaction is successful or not.
 It does contain the crucial information in the form of fixed codes by which we can assess
the transaction status and its reason of failure.
 SO receipt printer is a vital part of automated teller machine.
Cash dispenser:
 Last but not least, and the most important part of automated teller machine is its cash
dispenser.
 What is the use of an ATM machine if you are not able to take the money out of it.
 Yes! the cash dispenser is responsible for giving out the correct amount of cash you have
requested for.
 So after getting instruction from host controller to pay the money, cash dispenser will
count the money and dispenses the money out of it.
 I hope you have learned about the working of ATM machine which is your the day to day
friend in withdrawing your money wherever and whenever you want to.

WORKING :
The internet service provider (ISP) also plays an important role in the ATMs. This
provides communication between ATM and host processors. When the transaction is
made, the details are input by the cardholder. This information is passed on to the host
processor by the ATM. The host processor checks these details with an authorized bank.
If the details are matched, the host processor sends the approval code to the machine so
that the cash can be transferred.

 If the cardholder requests the cash, the host processor takes the cash from the
cardholder’s account.
 Once the funds are transferred from the customer account to the host processor bank
account, the processor sends the approval code to the ATM and the authorized machine to
dispense the cash.
 Advantages of ATM:

 The most important benefit of ATMs is beneficial for travelers.

 It provides 24 hours services without any staff and reduces the workload on bank staff.
 Quick and prompt service is possible with fewer human errors.
 Withdraw cash at any time or in urgent without the help of a bank.
 It ensures privacy to the customers.
 ATM machine offers financial inclusion.

Disadvantages of ATM:
 One of the disadvantages of ATMs is the Limitation of the withdrawal of money.
 Secondly, the initial cost of hardware, software, and installation site is very high.
 The personal touch of customers employees relation is missing.
 Due to leakage of PIN, fraud can take place easily.
 Most importantly, If an ATM card is lost, with no withdrawal of rupees, there is the
possibility of misusing and hack the ATM card.
 If dispense error in ATM machine, not received rupees but the account will be debited.

Security:
 You should only use an ATM where and when it is safe to do so.

 Good places are in shopping centres during normal shopping hours when there are plenty of people
around.

 Another good place is in the foyer of your bank's branch if it has ATMs there.

 The ATM will often recommend that you cover up your hand as you enter your PIN.

 That's to stop other people from seeing the PIN that you enter. There have also been instances where
small cameras have been placed on or near ATMs to record PINs.

 So, covering the keypad with your hand when you enter your PIN is a good idea.
GLASSORY:

What Is an Automated Teller Machine (ATM)?

An automated teller machine (ATM) is an electronic banking outlet that allows customers to
complete basic transactions without the aid of a branch representative or teller. Anyone with a
credit card or debit card can access cash at most ATMs.

ATMs are convenient, allowing consumers to perform quick self-service transactions such as
deposits, cash withdrawals, bill payments, and transfers between accounts. Fees are commonly
charged for cash withdrawals by the bank where the account is located, by the operator of the
ATM, or by both. Some or all of these fees can be avoided by using an ATM operated directly
by the bank that holds the account.

ATMs are known in different parts of the world as automated bank machines (ABM) or cash
machines.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

 Automated teller machines (ATMs) are electronic banking outlets that allow people to
complete transactions without going into a branch of their bank.
 Some ATMs are simple cash dispensers while others allow a variety of transactions such
as check deposits, balance transfers, and bill payments.
 The first ATMs appeared in the mid- to late-1960s and have grown in number to over 2
million worldwide.
 Today's ATMs are technological marvels, many capable of accepting deposits as well as
several other banking services.
 To keep ATM fees down, use an ATM branded by your own bank as often as possible.
