1) What is Photoshop?
Ans: Photoshop is an image editing application software which allows users to
create, edit, delete and manipulate various graphics as well as digital art work.

2) Write the steps to open Photoshop?


Ans: Method 1 :
a) Click on ‘Start’ button
b) Goto ‘Programs’
c) Goto ‘Adobe Photoshop’
d) Click ‘Photoshop’
Method 2 :
a) Click on ‘Search’ bar
b) Type ‘Photoshop’
c) Click on ‘Photoshop’

3) Explain the ‘Selection tools’ available in Photoshop?


Ans: The tools which are used to select any portion of an image in Photoshop are
termed as ‘Selection tools’. The selection tools available in Photoshop are as
follows:
1) Marquee Tool
2) Lasso Tool
3) Magic Wand

Marquee Tool: The Marquee tools let you drag a shape over an area to select
it.. The Marquee tools are as follows:
a) Rectangular Marquee Tool: This tool helps to select the rectangular
area of an image.
b) Elliptical Marquee Tool: This tool helps to select the oval shape area of
an image.
c) Single Row Marquee Tool: It helps to select the area of one row of
pixels in an image
d) Single Column Marquee Tool: It helps to select the area of one column
of pixels in an image
Lasso Tool : There are 3 different types of Lasso tools are available in
Photoshop. They are as follows:
a) Normal Lasso/Lasso Tool: The Lasso tool lets you to draw freely
around the object you want to select.
b) Polygonal Lasso Tool: The Polygonal Lasso tool selects shapes that
consist of straight lines..
c) Magnetic Lasso Tool: The Magnetic Lasso tools allows you to select an
image automatically as per to the border of the image
Magic Wand: Magic Wand tool allows you to select an image automatically
based on same adjacent colour pixels.

4) Explain the ‘Retouching tools’ available in Photoshop?


Ans: The Retouching tools available in Photoshop are as follows:
a) Healing Brush tool : This tool repairs imperfections like dark spots,
scratches, etc.,
b) Clone Stamp tool : The Clone Stamp tool is similar to the Healing
Brush tool. It allows the user to replace one part of an image with
another
c) Pattern Stamp tool : This tool allows you to fill an area with a selected
pattern
d) Eraser tool : It erases wherever you click and drag it.
i) Simple Eraser – erases in layers
ii) Background Eraser – erases layers and background
iii) Magic Eraser – erases same coloured pixels
e) Blur tool : It shows a hazy image of an object
f) Sharpen tool : To give a sharp effect to the selected pixels of an
image
g) Smudge Tool : It stretches and smudges pixels as if it is real paint
h) Dodge Tool : This tool lightens the area where you use it
i) Burn tool : This tool darkens the area where you use it

5) What are layers in Photoshop?


Ans: Layers in Photoshop allow you to work by stacking images on top of other
images without interacting and mixing the pixels of images. Layers help you
to edit a portion of a picture without affecting the other parts.

6) Write the steps to create a new layer, Delete, Rename, Duplicate a Layer in
Ans: Photoshop?
Creating a New Layer:
Choose ‘New Layer’ from the ‘Layers’ menu. Type the specified name for the
new layer, and then click OK.
Deleting a Layer:
Right click on required layer from layer panel and click ‘Delete’ option
Rename a Layer:
Double click the required layer from layer panel and type the ‘new name’
Duplicating a Layer:
Right click on required layer from layer panel and click ‘Duplicate Layer’ option
7) What are filters? Write the steps to apply filters(Water paper effect filter)?
Ans: Filters are predesigned settings which are used to edit and add effects to the
image or layer.
Steps to apply Water paper effect to a selected layer using Filters:
i) Open the image
ii) Select the required layer to apply Filter (Eg : Layer 1)
iii) Go to ‘Filter’ Menu, select ‘Sketch’, select ‘Water paper’ from the submenu
Then Water paper effect window appears on the screen
iv) Then change the required values in the options (like fiber length, brightness
etc.,) and click OK
Then it displays ‘Water paper effect’ to the Layer 1 .

8) Write the steps to free transform/resize the selected layer?


Ans: Steps:
i) Select the required layer using layers panel
ii) Goto Edit menu, Click Free Transform option, then resize the layer using
mouse and click OK
or
Press ‘Ctrl T’
iii) Then resize the layer using mouse and click OK
