THIRD SAUDI EXPANSION OF THE HOLY HARAM MAKKAH AND SURROUNDING AREAS
PART 1 - GENERAL
A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Specification Sections, apply to this Section.
1.2 SUMMARY
B. Related Sections include, but shall not be limited to, the following:
1. Trench Gratings: AASHTO wheel load H-20 and HS-20 traffic but not less than the
wheel load of new Pierec fire fighting and ladder truck used by Civil Defence
Authority (33.50 tonnes total Load) in Holy makkah.
2. Limit deflection to L/180 or 6.4 mm, whichever is less.
1.4 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: For each type of product indicated. Indicate composition and properties of
used GRP resins, embedded or inserted hardawre and anchors, test loads of ladder and
installation details.
C. Structural Calculations: Submit structural calculations for piazza gratings. Obtain approval
of each before beginning the respective fabrication or assembly;
1. Calculations shall be legible and shall incorporate cross references to shop drawings.
Calculations shall includethe following as a minimum:
b. Analysis and details of the main rectangular hollow pipe rods, end plugs,
secondary cross sections and anchoring system, including type, size, and
spacing of fasteners.
D. Samples: For the specified products, in manufacturer's standard sizes, showing the full
range of texture and pattern variations expected. Prepare Samples from the same material to
be used for the Work.
1. Include one sample of the gratings without solid part (fully opened drainage area) and
one sample for the grating with a solid part.
H. Cleaning and Maintenance instructions: Indicate method recommended for cleaning grating
segments from dirsts and soil and recommendation for regular maintainence of grating
material.
A. Field Mockups: Before installing cast plastic fabrications, build mockups for each form of
construction required to verify selections made under sample Submittals and to demonstrate
qualities of materials and execution. Build mockups to comply with the following
requirements, using materials indicated for the completed Work:
B. Laboratory Test Results: Submit report of test conducted under supervision of a third party
testing agency to demonstrate that the submitted grating will satisfy the performance
requirements specified in this Section. Testing shall be conducted on the specified field
mockup.
1. Test shall be conducted using new Pierec fire fighting and ladder truck used by Civil
Defence Authority in Holy Mehhah.
skilled tradesmen and who is known to have executed satisfactorily the manufacture and
installation of projects similar in scope and nature.
A. Field Measurements: Where cast plastic fabrications is indicated to fit to other construction,
verify dimensions of other construction by field measurements before fabrication and
indicate measurements on Shop Drawings. Coordinate fabrication schedule with
construction progress to avoid delaying the Work.
1.7 WARRANTY
B. Warranty does not include deterioration or failure of moving vechiles of wheel load beyond
design loads.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURERS
2.2 MATERIALS
A. Resin for GRP Mix: Fire retardant polyester type brominated reactor blended resin. Up to
30% antimony trioxide permitted.

minimum:
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with
requirements for installation and other conditions affecting performance.
1. Confirm that concrete surface that will receive angle framing is perfectly level.
2. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 COORDINATION
A. Coordination: Coorinate the installation of gratings with adjoining waterproofing and floor
finish works.
A. Install angle frames to level concrete surfces. Level surface with high strength concrete
repair mortar where necessary. Apply and cure in strict accordance with manufacturer's
printed instructions. Countersink heads of fixation screws in stainless steel angles
B. Top edge of grating frames is to be fully flush with top surface of adjoining marble flooring.
A. Place grating segments so as top surface is full flush with adjoining marble floors.
C. Finished gratings shall be firm and stable without movement or displacement under
specified wheel load.
