Head of the study programme: Prof. Nenad Bolf, Ph.D.
The Conditions of Enrolment
The basic conditions of enrolment comply with the Regulations on the Postgraduate
Specialist Study Programmes of the University of Zagreb and the Articles of Statute
of the University of Zagreb. The students who have finished the university
undergraduate or graduate study programme of Chemical Engineering, Chemistry
and Materials Engineering, EcoEngineering or Applied Chemistry or any similar
study programmes in the technical field may apply to enrol in the postgraduate
specialist study programme of Petroleum and Petrochemical Engineering. The
students who have not finished the university undergraduate or graduate study
programme in the technical field may be requested to take differential exams.
The structure of the programme
The students enrol in the specialist study programme for a period of one academic
year (two semesters) with the total of 60 ECTS credits. Since it is expected that the
majority of students will be employees from the industry and companies, the study
programme is foreseen to be completed within two years from the enrolment year.
By way of exception and at the proposal of the Council of the Study Programme, the
Head of the Study Programme may grant the student’s request to prolong his/her
studies provided the student pays additional tuition costs for a maximum period of
four years.
The basic structure of the study programme is as follows:
1st semester 2nd semester
30 ECTS 30 ECTS
TOTAL 60 ECTS
The compulsory and elective courses are taught in the form of lectures, practical
exercises and seminars (analysis of case studies and examples), demonstration
exercises or field work. The assessment of all courses (compulsory and elective)
amounts to the equivalent of 6 ETCS points. Students select their potential mentor
when they enrol in the specialist study programme either alone or with assistance of
the Head of the Study Programme and discuss with him/her the field of expertise in
which they will write their final thesis in the second semester. The study
programme is completed after students have passed all exams and written the final
thesis. To be able to enrol in the second semester, students need to pass three (3)
first semester courses. The students who have both semesters tested, but do not
manage to pass all exams or to write the final thesis within the period foreseen by
general University regulations, may obtain a certificate of attendance of the study
programme as a part of their lifelong learning.
Upon completion of the study programme the students will be awarded the academic
title of a university specialist in petroleum and petrochemical engineering .
All courses may be held in the English language in order to stimulate
internationalisation of the study programme and student mobility.
