RATIONALE
AMS2252E is a Five-Year review and update of this specification that includes the addition of and alignment with relevant
ASTM tables.
1. SCOPE
This specification covers established inch/pound manufacturing tolerances applicable to low-alloy steel sheet, strip, and
--``,,,,`,``,,,,```,``,````,`,``-`-`,,`,,`,`,,`---
plate ordered to inch/pound dimensions. These tolerances apply to all conditions unless otherwise noted. 7KHWHUP³H[FO´
is used to apply only to the higher figure of the specified range.
1.1 MAM2252, the metric version of this AMS, has been cancelled and superseded by this specification.
2. REFERENCES
The issue of the following documents in effect on the date of the purchase order forms a part of this specification to the
extent specified herein. The supplier may work to a subsequent revision of a document unless a specific document issue is
specified. When the referenced document has been cancelled and no superseding document has been specified, the last
published issue of that document shall apply.

3.5.1 Minus tolerance for all sizes shall be 0.010 inch, plus tolerance shall be as specified in Table 6.
3.5.2 Tolerances apply to measurements made at any point on widths less than 1 inch, at any point not less than 3/8 inch
from a cut edge or not less than 3/4 inch from a mill edge on widths 1 inch and over, and at a point 3/8 to 3/4 inch
from the longitudinal edge of rectangular sheared plates. For thicknesses measured at any other location, the
thickness tolerance may vary by +75% to -0% from the values shown. Regardless of whether thickness tolerances
for sheet and strip are specified equally or unequally, plus and minus, the total tolerance shall be equal to the
arithmetic sum of the tabular plus and minus tolerances (twice the tubular tolerances when specified equally plus
and minus).

7.2.1 The longer dimension specified is considered the length. Variations in flatness along the length shall not exceed
--``,,,,`,``,,,,```,``,````,`,``-`-`,,`,,`,`,,`---
the amounts in the above table for plates 12 feet and under in length or in any 12 feet of longer plates.
7.2.2 When the longer dimension is less than 36 inches, the variation in flatness shall be not greater than 3/8 inch. When
the longer dimension is 36 to 72 inches, the variation shall not exceed 0.75 times the amount shown for the specified
width.
7.2.3 The flatness variation across the width shall not exceed the tolerance specified for the length for the specified width.
8. NOTES
A change bar (l) located in the left margin is for the convenience of the user in locating areas where technical revisions, not
editorial changes, have been made to the previous issue of this document. An (R) symbol to the left of the document title
indicates a complete revision of the document, including technical revisions. Change bars and (R) are not used in original
