Panimula SAFETY PRECAUTIONS BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER AN
EARTHQUAKE
An earthquake is a natural phenomenon that can neither be
stopped nor controlled. However, people can remember some safety
measures before, during and after earthquakes.

What To Do Before an Earthquake:


1. Help your parents fix your house.
2. Let you and your family talk about emergency preparedness plan
during earthquake.
3. Your family should have an emergency supply kit at home, which
includes first-aid materials, nonperishable food, medicines, bottled
water, flashlights and batteries.
4. Have an emergency list of persons or agencies and their contract
numbers that you can call during emergencies.
5. Practice earthquake drills, or exercise on what to do during an
earthquake, with family members at home.

What To Do During an Earthquake


1. Stay calm. Do not panic.
2. If you are indoors during an earthquake, drop down to the floor.
3. Stay away from the stoves and heavy appliances.
4. If you are outside during an earthquake, go to an open area away from
buildings and electric posts.
5. If you are at the beach or seashore, move to a higher place.

What To Do After an Earthquake


1. Check for injuries.
2. Check for dangerous materials.
3. Expect aftershocks or minor tremors after the main shock of an
earthquake.
DEVELOPMENT 4. Listen to the news about tsunami warnings, especially if your family

5. Clean the areas where harmful chemical may be spilled when shaken
because of the earthquake.
