given activities and questions seriously as this material is designed and made
for them. This is also to inform our learners to take some precautionary
measures and some activities need extra care.
This is just a reminder my dear facilitators of learning, do not go beyond
our objectives and main goal for our learners. Be an agent of learning. Have
fun!

As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage
their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.

What is It

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Procedures are a set of systematic

plans and actions to prevent any accidents and diseases related to work. Identifying
and recognizing the workplace hazards and risks is meticulously planned.

What is 'hazard' and 'risk'?

A hazard is a potential source of any harm or adverse effect to anyone. A risk
is the possibility that a person may be harmed or suffers adverse health effects if
exposed to a hazard. It is important that the management recognizes these hazards
so that the risk of having mishaps will be minimized.

Three common steps in managing health and safety at a workplace

1. Hazard Identification - being able to identify something as a potential hazard
to anyone will greatly minimize the chance of it to become a risk.
2. Risk Assessment – this is conducted to comprehend the severity of the hazard
and its potential outcomes.
3. Risk Control – this is a technique that helps the management in creating
plans and changes to reduce the chances of risks to happen in a workplace.

Contingency Measures are a part of the standard workplace health and

safety policies and procedures that are being implemented at a job. It is designed to
deal with any minor or major incident or emergency that may occur during the time
a task is performed.

Most Common Goals of having Contingency Measures

1. Prevent aggravated injuries or death – having personnel severely injured, or
worse, having someone die in the workplace while performing his daily task is
the last scenario any workplace would like to encounter.

5
2. Reduce the damage to the workplace and its equipment – aside from
protecting the personnel, the workplace itself must be secured from further
damages.
3. Continue the workflow – after applying the appropriate contingency
measure, work must resume as soon as possible.

 Call Fire Department to report the incident.

Activity 3. Stay Alert- Don’t Get Hurt!

Directions: Identify the hazards in the following statement/situation. Write your
answer in your activity notebook.

Situation 1: Jamie went to the Computer Laboratory to finish her requirements for
a subject. After saving the file, she felt a water droplet in her forehead and noticed
more of it on the floor near an electrical cords and power source. Immediately, she
turned off the power source, and wiped the water off.
