Global environment challenges
Problem :

Transportation around the globe is responsible for 25% to 30% ot pollution

The energy demand shall be twice in 2050 compared to 2030, but we

have to reduce by half our CO2 emissions.

We know that transportation, and the transport sector must reduce by 60%
its greenhouse gas emission.

Objectives in Europe:

Target for transport sector -60% greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 in EU

100% of new car sold must be fully electric by 2035

Solution :

EV is a contributor to the solution

Indeed, it pollute less, and is almost silent compared to a non electric vehicle.

Objective of replacing ICE vehicles with Evs

Electric vehicles can also drastically reduce background noise

Internal
What’s an electric vehicle?
2 types of EVs can be charged

• Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) • Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)

•They rely entirely on rechargeable batteries to provide •They have batteries that can be recharged but have
power conventional engines as back-up

Note:
Conventional cars are also called ICE (Internal Combustion Engine)
Hybrid EV cannot be charged

Internal

What are the most common charging places?
Customers don’t charge EV the way they fill in the tank: they don’t stop to charge, they charge when they can

>80% of the charge are done daily at home

Installation of a home charger remains problematic in many cases
Overnight electrical demand is generally far lower than during the day

People protection against earth leakage currents
Reminder

• Any EV may create AC and DC fault currents both in single-

phase and three-phase
− AC, DC, or AC+DC fault currents

• RCD Type A delivers a suitable protection against AC fault

current,
• But RCD Type A cannot detect a DC fault current
• And RCD Type A may be “blinded” by a DC fault current > 6
mA
− Any additional AC fault current cannot be detected
− The RCD Type A might become irreversibly damaged

Very well explained and showcased

• RCD Type B delivers a suitable protection against any kind in the democase video: “Acti9 RCCB
of fault current B Type_DemoCase AC-B_Video”
