Topic: News report, Speeches, Informative talks and Discussion Activity No.: 1.1
Activity Title: Your first learning.
Learning Competency:
Use information from news reports, speeches, informative talks, panel
discussions, etc. in everyday conversations and exchanges.

Learning Target:
1. Identify the differences of news report, speeches, informative talks and panel
discussion.
2. Differentiate news report and speeches.

Reference: English 10 Quarter 1 Module.

I. Preliminaries

II. Lesson Proper


1. Elicit
Teacher will show a video clip of a news caster reporting and will ask the
students the following questions:
 What was the video all about?
 Does it convey an information?

2. Engage
Teacher will group the class into 5. (Have at least 7-8 members each group)

Direction: Arrange the jumbled letters to form a word.

3. Explore
The students will give the meaning of the arrange words.

The teacher will show a picture and let the students observe.

Concept notes:

News – an information about events happening around the world. It can be


shared to different media platforms.

News reports – are found in newspaper and its purpose is to inform


readers.

Topics for news reports are: Politics, business, entertainment, celebrities,


places, health, sports, events and etc.

Types of speeches according to delivery


a. Memorize speech – a speech that the speaker mastered in his mind and
heart.
Example: Valedictory Speech

b. Extemporaneous speech – a type of speech delivery that involves the


preparation of speaker notes before delivery.
Example: Lecturing, Hosting

c. Impromptu speech – a speech intended to be done without any


preparation at all.
Example: Recitation, Interview

After the discussion ask the students the following questions:


 What is the significance of News report?
 Why do we need to learn the different types of speeches according to
their delivery?

6. Evaluate
Activity
The teacher will show a video to the students and let them answer the
questions.

a. Identify what type of speeches is being shown on the video.


b. Identify what particular news topic is shown on the picture.

7. Extend
Have an advance study about Informative talks and Panel discussion.
