LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEETS (LAS) IN GRADE 7 CARPENTRY

Fourth Quarter (Module 6)
ANALYZING SIGNS, SYMBOLS AND DATA

Competency: Analyze signs, symbols and data. TLE_IACP7/8ID-0f-1

Objectives: Explain the importance of signs, symbols and data in interpreting a work
plan.
Determine appropriate signs and symbols needed in the plan.
Apply freehand sketching.

I. EXPLORE

A. Observe the drawing and answer the questions below.

What are shown in the drawing?

What are used in the drawing to give details?

II. LEARN

A. Now before we proceed, we will try to give you the Definition of Terms. Ok, let us try this.

TERMS USED DEFINITION

Axis line about which a body turns or rotates

Design drawing showing the plan, elevations, sections, and

other features
Dimension definite measure shown on a drawing in detail
Isometric Drawing drawing which resembles a respective drawing
Orthographic Projection arrangement in a drawing of the three principal
views of an object
Perspective Drawing the representation of an object on a plan surface,
pertaining to materials, styles and finish presented
as to have the same appearances as when seen from
a particular viewpoint

Projections the cutting out of any part or any member of a

structure
Scaled Drawing drawing plan made according to a scale, smaller
than the actual work

Sketch freehand drawing of an object

REMEMBER:

 In sketching orthographic drawing, certain conventional lines are used for a definite purpose.
These lines are commonly called Alphabet of Lines.

Various Types of Lines are as follows:

1. Border lines are extra heavy lines used to frame a drawing.

2. Visible line is a medium line used to show edges and contours visible to the eye.

3. Hidden or invisible lines are short dashes that are

broken. They represent the hidden parts of an object which need to be shown but are not visible from
a particular view.

4. Dimension lines consist of two thin lines

having arrowheads and measurements.

5. Section lines are used to show a surface that has been cut in a section view.
6. Viewing or Cutting- plane lines

7. Break lines are used to show the part of an object which

has been removed or broken away. Short breaks are made with a thick, solid freehand line. Long
breaks are drawn with a thin, solid line.

 Ok, if you are familiar with the different sketch of

lines, let us try to sketch an object.
Now, this time let us apply freehand sketching.

STEPS IN SKETCHING AN ISOMETRIC BOX

1. Draw a vertical axis.

2. Draw left and right axis.

3. Determine the width and length of the box, and then draw a
vertical line.
4. Draw a left and right axis to the determined height of the box.

5. Project a line parallel to the left and right axis.

6. Label the box to determine the top, front and the right side view.

Steps in Sketching Orthographic Drawing

1. Study the object to be drawn ( See isometric drawing )

2. Draw the top view, front view and the right side view.

3.Draw a simple drawing using block as model. Try to study the given view.

Given Isometric View 3 Main Views

STEPS IN SKETCHING ISOMETRIC DRAWING OF A GIVEN ORTHOGRAPHIC

FIGURE
1.Study the object to be drawn (see orthographic drawing).
2.Draw the isometric drawing.
3.Lay out the front view.
4.Sketch the top view and side view.
5.Finalize the object to complete the drawing.

 Now, based on the given activity, did you find the activity easy and exciting?

Look Back!
A. Fill in the blanks with the kind of alphabet lines or conventional lines in the box above that
matches the meaning given in each number.

_____________1. Heavy, solid line used to frame in the drawing.

_____________2. A medium line used to show edges and contours not visible to the eye.
_____________3. A thin, long, or short dashes that indicate the center of any symmetrical figure or
light line used as axis of symmetry.
_____________4. A form of dimension line used to connect dimensions or notes to the drawing.
_____________5. Thin lines that extend from the edge of a view so that the dimension lines may be
placed between them.

 Based on what you have learned, let us try to identify and indicate in the given box the kind
of alphabetical lines that corresponds to the given signs or symbols.

1.

2.

3.
4.

5.

III. ENGAGE

 Now, let us try more challenging example. Identify and indicate in the given box the kind of
alphabetical lines that corresponds to the given signs or symbols.
IV. APPLY

Apply what you have learned about analyzing signs, symbols and data.
A. Do the Orthographic Drawing of the given Isometric Figure I.
