ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Students asked when they would usually hear these words Ready,
Steady, Go! Students explained that this is the title of Unit 6 and
they asked what they expect the unit to be about. Students asked to
turn to page 69 and to look at the picture and the accompanying
caption. They asked to describe what’s happening in the picture
with a partner and to discuss their reaction to it.
LESSON DELIVERY Activity A(page 70)
1. Students asked to look at the picture of the girl in the top
right-hand corner of page 70 and they asked what she’s
doing. Students asked if they think the girl needs to be first
to do such a sport. They asked to justify their opinions
2. Students asked at random to report to the class if their
partner thinks they are fir or not. Then students asked to
continue working with their partner and discuss what
water sports they have tried of id they prefer to do sports
on land.
Activity B (page 70)
1. Students asked to read the instructions. Students have
about 5 minutes to write down why they think people do
sports. Students asked to work with a partner and to take
it in turns to say the reasons they have come up with. The
answers checked with as a class.
Activity C(page 70)
1. Students asked to read the instructions and check that
they understand what they have to do. Students asked to
read the descriptions 1-5 in the Exam Task, and underline
any reasons they give for wanting to do sport.

word or expression that they have learned in relation to the lesson

ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Students plays a story-telling game. For example: Take a piece of
paper and cut into 16 squares. A: on four squares put an adjective
describing mood (i.e. miserable, ecstatic) B: on four more put a
different location (i.e. the beach, school playground) C: on four
more an object (i.e. a head scarf, sunglasses) D: on the last four a
verb (i.e. riding, running) Fold the papers in quarters so students
cannot see what is written. The class divided into groups. Each
group takes a paper from A-D then makes up a story / recount
using all the picked-out words in their stories. When ready, collect
responses.
LESSON DELIVERY Activity A (Student Book page 72)
1. Students look at the first picture. Students read through the
prompts underneath it and check understanding. Students imagine
that they are the man in the picture and that this has happened to
them. They should describe what happened and how they felt.
Students can use some of the idioms presented in the vocabulary
activity in order to describe their feelings more vividly. They will
need to use the past tenses. Students prepare their stories. Some
students are chosen to describe what happened and how they felt.
In pairs, students take turns to narrate what happened and the
story of the woman shown in the second picture.
Activity B (Student Book page 72)
1. Students asked the questions and a short discussion is initiated.
POST LESSON Some of the more successful / descriptive recounts are chosen.
Students read out their recounts to the class. Students take on the
part of their chosen character and put expression in their voices as
they read their recounts. If time allows, do a hot seat activity. 2
students are chosen to take on the roles of the characters from the
pictures and get the rest of the pupils to ask questions about their
day at the beach.

LESSON DELIVERY Activity D(page 71)
1. Students asked to read the information in the Exam Close-
up box and explained anything they don’t understand.
They explained that it is a matching task and it is
important that they look for similar words and
expressions in the texts.
2. Students explained that in order to do this task well, they
must read all the text closely to find relevant information.
Students asked to read the first descriptions (1) in the
Exam Task and underline any key words. Students asked
to do the same for description 2-5 individually.
Activity E(page 71)
1. Students asked to read the instructions and check that
they understand what they have to do. They explained that
they have to match the descriptions of people (1-5) with
the various sports activities (a-h), but not all the sports
activities will be answers to 1-5.
Activity F (page 71)
1. Students asked to read the instructions and check that
they understand what they have to do. They explained that
this is a gap task and they should complete the sentences
with the correct form in brackets in the yellow wordbank.
2. Students asked to skim read the sentences carefully and
pay attention to the words before or after each gap
