1. INTRODUCTION
1. INTRODUCTION
1.1- GENERAL
The bill of quantities does not purport to be either exhaustive or explanatory of all the
obligations and duties of the Contractor who shall be deemed to have satisfied himself as to the
correctness and sufficiency of the rates and prices entered by him in the bill of quantities all of
which shall cover all his obligations under the Contract (including those in respect of the supply
of goods, materials, plant or services or contingencies) and all matters and things necessary for
the proper execution and completion of the works and the remedying of any defects therein and
which may reasonably be inferred to be necessary for the works as described in the Contract
Documents whether expressly mentioned therein or not.
Works in the present bill of quantities will be remeasured on completion and valued at the
rates inserted by the Contractor hereinafter in accordance with the Contract Documents.
The Contractor shall be deemed to have visited the Site, to have taken into account all
local and existing conditions. The Contractor’s attention is drawn to the location of some works
without permanent access.
The Contractor should take all necessary measurements with local owners to insure his
access to some project parts where no access is expropriated. The expenses of such works are
considered included in the mobilization items.
The Contractor shall be responsible for preparing and constructing any necessary
associated design and design changes, which shall be submitted to the approval of the Engineer
and shall be at no extra cost to the Employer.
The unit prices are to be fully inclusive value of the works described in the specifications,
in the drawings, in the bill of quantities or ordered by the Engineer for proper execution of the
works and Contract.
The rates entered against the items defined in this bill of quantities shall cover the
construction of all the works that shall include but not be limited to the supply of material, labor,
tools, equipment and transport to the various parts of the project (easy to access or not) and all
costs and profits required for the proper completion of all the works (structures, pipelines, etc …)
under this Contract without any exception and without any reservation. All the works shall be
executed as described in the Conditions of Contract, Specifications, Bill of Quantities, Drawings,
and technical rules and as directed by the Engineer. All material used in construction shall be of
best quality and in compliance with the specifications and shall be approved by the Engineer prior
to the beginning of the works. The rates shall also include but not be limited to the following:
- Installation and maintenance of site equipment and temporary facilities, dismantling and
removal of site equipment and temporary facilities after completion of the works,
- Construction and maintenance of all access roads including safety measures and traffic
regulation,
- Supplying material, labor, tools, equipment, machinery and all the required items for the
completion of the works and for the subsequent operation, maintenance and repair. All goods,
materials, equipment and accessories shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval,
- Testing of material, testing during construction, testing of water quality, pressure tests for
pipes and accessories and all the required tests in conformity with the specifications and as
directed by the Engineer,
- Supply, transport, installation, testing, site watching and fencing, etc … and all related
requirements and expenses,

- Preparation of drawings, reports and all the required office work in order to complete the
works with the related expenses,
- All trial pits necessary to locate existing services and to determine ground condition and to
localize the potential archeological sites.
- Protection of public and private properties, preservation of the existing utilities and
indemnification against all damages caused by the construction activities,
- All the necessary safety measures, barriers, signs, lightings, etc … to ensure the safety of the
workers, people and traffic and to settle the boundaries of the work zone day and night,
- Guiding and protecting traffic and pedestrians through areas of construction including the
construction of roads and pathways, the erection of signs, barriers and lighting,
- Insurance of works, equipment, personnel and insurance against accidents,
- All costs pertaining to the Contractor work area (stores, workshops, repair zones, etc …),
- All taxes and customs fees,
- Supply of water and power including piping and wiring to all parts of the project and all
related costs,
- Supply of fuel, oil, spare parts, etc … for all the vehicles, machines and other equipment,
- Providing qualified personnel, technicians, workmen, etc… needed for the proper execution of
all works and their related charges (salaries, pensions, etc …),
- Supply of Survey and inspection facilities for the Engineer and executing all survey works to
position pipelines, structures, monitor the progress and verify the locations (X, Y, Z) of all
constructions and prepare topographic layouts to be submitted to the Engineer on paper and on
floppy disks.
A detailed description of the items and of the conditions under which and the manner in
which the work is to be done and measured is set out in the preamble to the bill of quantities.
Each item in the bills A, B, C, D and E is described in a paragraph of identical number and name
in this preamble. Reference shall also be made to all other documents forming the Contract
(Technical Specifications, Drawings, etc …). Items entitled “NOT USED” in the bills shall not be
included in this Contract.
The Contractor shall be deemed to have inserted against each item in the bill of quantities
such rates and prices as he may deem necessary to cover the requirements of the Contract. Where
neither price nor rate is entered against an item it shall be deemed to be "nil" and measured
accordingly. The term "included" or any such similar term shall be deemed to be nil. Rates and
prices shall be inserted in the rate column of the bill of quantities.
The unit prices inserted in the bill of quantities are to be the full inclusive value of the
work described in the specifications and in this preamble and shall cover the cost of all labor
subsistence and traveling, materials, temporary work, constructural plant, watching and any other
cost whatsoever, together with all risks, liabilities and obligations set forth or implied in the
Contract Documents.
It should be noted that no payment will be provided by the Client for Materials and Plant
brought to the site by the Contractor for incorporation in the Permanent Works.
1. INTRODUCTION
1.4- MEASUREMENT
The price shall include all necessary for completion of the works and shall include the
prices for all necessary building work such as forming box outs, supports plinths, cable trenches,
and the like and all necessary safety and access works including guards, handrails, fire fighting
equipment and the like.
All measurements in the bill of quantities are strictly net. The principle of net
measurements shall apply to all works executed. All quantities measured for payment shall be
measured by the Engineer on the basis of actual net quantities of work fixed in position.
Net measurements shall be done according to the net dimensions. The net dimensions are
the dimensions shown on the contract drawings. In case of lack of details on some drawings and
in case of design changes approved by the Engineer, the Contractor shall prepare and submit to
the approval of the Engineer any necessary associated drawings, and accordingly, the net
dimensions shown on the above drawings and approved by the Engineer shall be the base for the
measurements.
Lump sum items shall not be subject to remeasurement and shall include the prices of all
necessary equipment, construction, installation, testing and commissioning among others. The
lump sum entered in the bill of quantities shall include the price for a complete installation as
described in the bill of quantities, specifications and other documents forming this Contract.
The quantities given in the bill of quantities shall not be considered as limiting or
extending the amount of the work to be done by the Contractor and of the materials to be supplied
by him. The Contractor shall be responsible for checking quantities and for making any necessary
surveys and investigations prior to placing any order for materials.
Unless otherwise stated, the rates and prices for all items shall be fully inclusive of all
that is necessary to fulfill the liabilities and obligations arising out of the Contract and shall
include but will not be limited to:
- Survey and Design where expressly required by the Contract,
- Labor and all associated costs,
- Materials, goods, equipment, all consumable, accessories and all associated costs,
- Provision of plant,
- Temporary works (including all safety measures to be taken by the Contractor for a 24/24h
whole protection on the site),
- Establishment charges, overheads and Contractor’s profit,
- All bonds and insurances,
- Employer's facilities,
- Tests and all associated costs (if not included in separate items),
- Payments of duty and taxes on imported materials and equipment,
- Protection of public and private properties,
- Any damage occurred on the site must be repaired at the Contractor’s expense,
- All access roads (temporary or not: allowing free passing over or across for vehicles and
personnel in the neighborhood),

1.6- COVERAGE
Where the bill of quantities does not include separate items for Contractor’s equipment,
temporary works, facilities for the Engineer and the like, the Contractor shall be deemed to have
covered his obligations in these respects in the rates and prices for permanent works.
1.7- ABBREVIATIONS
A hyphen between two dimensions means a range of dimensions, which includes all
dimensions exceeding that preceding the hyphen but not exceeding that following the hyphen.
Where in the bill of quantities or specification there is a schedule or subsidiary bill setting
out the quantities of materials, plant and work which comprise a unit of work measured as a lump
sum under a single item in a part of the bill of quantities, the said quantities shall not be subject to
measurement but may be used by the Engineer in valuing any variation to the lump sum item and
for the purpose of scheduling payments.
1. INTRODUCTION
Items in the bill of quantities shall be deemed to include for dealing with water flows and
keeping the works free of water.
Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the Contract, water and power for the purpose of
constructing, cleaning, testing, and commissioning the works shall be provided by the Contractor
at his own expense, and shall not be measured separately.
All disposal sites shall be provided by the Contractor in accordance with the local
authorities and shall not be used by the Contractor prior to the approval of the Engineer.
Preparatory works shall be carried out by the Contractor if required by the local authorities or by
the Engineer.
All materials shall be transported at the Contractor’s expense from and to all works sites
(including Contractor work area, storage areas, etc …) whether these sites are accessible or not.
The Contractor shall bear all charges related to access roads construction unless a separate item
for access roads construction is included in the bill of quantities.
1.15- TESTS
The Contractor shall conduct all required tests (pressure test for the piping system,
pumping tests for wells, etc …) and shall supply all necessary labour, measuring equipment,
instruments and accessories to complete the tests as specified in the technical documents and as
directed by the Engineer.
1. INTRODUCTION
- Provisional sums have been included in the Contract at the amounts as stated in the Bill of
Quantities.
- It is to be clearly understood that the provisional sums shall only be used, in whole or in part,
in accordance with the Employer’s Representatives’ instruction and only after the Employer’s
Representative has obtained the specific approval of the Employer before taking any action
between.
- The existence of provisional sums does in no way entitle the Contractor to any claim and/or
additional payment for fulfilling his obligations described in the Contract.
The rate shall include the full mobilization / demobilization of all resources and
equipment necessary for the execution and completion of the works. The rate shall also include
the design and construction of offices, stores, workshops, clinics and all other facilities required
for the completion of the works under this Contract. The price shall be paid as a lump sum and the
works shall include but not be limited to:
- Insurance of works, equipment and personnel,
- Protection of public and private properties,
- All necessary procedures for the supply and testing of material in conformity with the
specifications and as directed by the Engineer,
- Temporary works and site protection, watching, fencing and lighting,
- Supplying the required equipment in order to execute all the required works including but not
limited to:
Transport material and equipment to the different parts of the project,
Ensure storage areas and disposal sites,
Generate compressed air,
Supply water and power to complete the works,
Keep the site free of water for excavation, backfilling and concrete works,
Supply compressed water ( not less than 2 bars),
Accomplish excavation including removal of excavated material and
backfilling,
Mix, transport and cast concrete including reinforcement steel works,
Supply, install and test pipes and related fittings and accessories,
Install wrought steel
Perform geotechnical investigations,
Supply, install and test mechanical, electrical, hydraulics and
electromechanical equipment,
Wells drilling and boring with all related works.
- Providing water (including potable water), power, sanitary facilities and communication
means (telephones, cellular phones, …
- Management, operation and maintenance of site equipment,
- Construction and maintenance of access and service roads for reservoir sites, pumping station
sites, disposal sites, pipelines, Contractor working area, concrete batch plant, etc … Access
and service roads shall be constructed prior to the beginning of the works and shall be kept in
good condition for traffic for the whole duration of the project. Unless the bill of quantities
includes separate items for construction and maintenance of access and service roads, all costs
pertaining to this matter shall be deemed to be included by the Contractor in his unit rates for
this item and shall not be paid for separately.
- 3 Nr 4x4 off road “Toyota double cabenet” (with a 4 cylinders engine, Latest made,
Automatic transmission and including AC) and 1 Nr. “Toyota Land Cruiser” (Latest made,
Automatic transmission and including AC) to be provided to the Supervision staff. Vehicles
will be handed over to the client immediately upon completion of the project.
- Indemnification and remedying of all damages caused by the execution of the works to the
private or public properties,
- Guiding and protecting traffic and pedestrians through areas of construction including the
erection of signs, barriers and lighting,
- Removal of utilities, plants, machinery and all other facilities after the completion of the
works including reinstatement to the Engineer’s satisfactory,
- Construction of all necessary structures ( pipes, canals, …) or supplying the necessary
equipment ( pumps, machines, …) to divert water from the work zone throughout the period
of the project,
- Ensuring that all parts of the project are operating as required after the completion of the
works and after testing and remedying of all defects that may appear while testing,
- Completion of all procedures necessary for the taking over and commissioning,
- All items necessary to complete the mobilization / demobilization including all related costs.
The rate shall also cover providing, furnishing, maintaining and cleaning of the Resident
Engineer’s office including all related costs. The Resident Engineer’s office
shall be suitably located in the project zone and shall be composed of 4 offices, a meeting room, a
bedroom, a WC and a kitchen and shall be equipped with all the necessary items for the good
performance of the supervision team, these items shall include but not be limited to:
- Tables, desks, rolling chairs, chairs, shelves, cabinets, beds, etc., …
- 3 Computers (recent processor), network installation, internet DSL connection, printer (A3),
photocopier, fax machine, stationery, …
- Coffee machine and refrigerator
- Electrical supply, potable water supply, toilet, sewage disposal system, …
- Air conditioners, heaters,
- Telephones and related charges including: 1 central for telephone and one land line, 2 cellular
lines with a maximum monthly expense of 250US$.
This item shall cover the operation and maintenance of the project for a 24 Months
period.
ITEM B.1: CUTTING OF PAVED ROADS FOR PIPE TRENCHES AND MANHOLES
Cutting of paved roads to construct pipe trenches shall be measured by linear meter along
the center line of pipes and shall include for asphalt (or concrete) cutting on both sides of the
trench using asphalt saw, trench widening where required (particularly on manholes locations),
and removal of asphaltic (or concrete) layers and aggregates to the disposal sites. Cutting of paved
roads to construct pipe trenches shall be classified for payment according to trench type.
Excavation to construct pipe trenches shall be measured by linear meter along the center
line of pipes and shall be carried out in all the indicated locations (easy to access or not), with or
without machines (if necessary) and in all types of soil (including rock which is subject to the
extra over of item B.2.a). The works shall include for trench dewatering (maximum flow of
diverted water of 10 l/s for each 100m length of excavated trench), supporting of excavation
(maximum depth of 5m.), traffic regulation, safety provisions, transport of excavated material
unsuitable for re-use to the disposal sites and storing of excavated material that are suitable in the
opinion of the Engineer for re-use.
The excavation shall be carried out according to the dimensions shown on the drawings or
directed by the Engineer. The price shall neither account for extra excavation depth nor for extra
excavation width caused by trench wall sliding or any other reason. Excavation to construct pipe
trenches shall be classified for payment according to trench type.
Unclassified Excavation to support and protect pipes when laid under river beds or in
unstable and sliding ground or in steep slopes and to construct thrust blocks when pipe direction
changes horizontally or vertically and where required by the Engineer on the pipe, shall be
measured by cubic meters and shall be carried out in all the indicated locations (easy to access or
not), with or without machines (if necessary) and in all types of soil (including rock which is
subject to the extra over of item B.3.a). The works shall include for dewatering and supporting of
excavation, traffic regulation, safety provisions, transport of excavated material unsuitable for re-
use to the disposal sites and storing of excavated material that are suitable in the opinion of the
Engineer for re-use.
Unclassified Excavation shall be measured by cubic meters and shall be carried out in the
locations shown on the drawings, indicated by the Engineer and where is needed.
Reinforced concrete class B (350 kg of cement per one cubic meter of concrete) to
support and protect pipes when laid under river beds or in unstable and sliding ground or in steep
slopes and to construct concrete casing and thrust blocks when pipe direction changes
horizontally or vertically and where required by the Engineer on the pipe, shall be measured by
cubic meters and shall be carried out in the locations shown on the drawings, proposed by the
Contractor and approved by the Engineer, and where is needed. The works shall include but not
be limited to:
- Supply of all the components of the concrete (cement, aggregates, water, formwork,
admixtures and all the related accessories),
- Supplying, transporting, storing and placing reinforcing steel bars for concrete structures as
shown on the drawings and / or as required,
- Fixing of formwork,
- Batching, mixing, pouring, vibrating, curing and testing of concrete,
- Submission of detailed bar bending schedule,
- Shop Drawings of structure and revision thereto if any,
- Fixing bars in any position & in any member,
- Fixing bars horizontally, vertically and sloped,
- Work to any diameter, section & length,
- Forming straight, bent, & curved bars and links,
- Cutting tying wires, spacers, chairs and the like.
- Drilling of anchor holes, epoxy grouts for anchors bars of exposed pipe supports on rocks and
slopes>50% (wherever necessary).
- All items necessary to complete the works.
This item shall consist of executing concrete class C which is composed of minimum
250kg cement / m3 as a bedding, around and above the pipe in the trench (in case of buried high
slopes pipe and wherever requested by the Engineer). This item shall include the following works:
- Supply of all the components of the concrete (cement, aggregates, water, formwork,
admixtures and all the related accessories),
- Fixing of formwork,
- Batching, mixing, pouring, vibrating, curing and testing of concrete,
- Expansion joints where needed
- All items necessary to complete the works.
This item shall be measured in cubic meter and shall be the net volume in accordance with the
drawings.
ITEM B.6: SUPPLY, LAYING AND TESTING OF DUCTILE IRON PIPES AND
ACCESSORIES
The price of one linear meter shall include furnishing, transporting, storing, installing and
testing of ductile iron pipes for potable water in roads, off roads and in special crossing areas
(bridges, watercourses, terraced ground, steep slopes, etc …) according to contract drawings or
according to shop drawings proposed by the Contractor and approved by the Engineer.
The price shall also include pipe cutting, pipe chamfering and all types of joints, Tees,
Reducers, elbows, adaptors, short pipes, puddle flanges, double sockets, flanges, bolts, nuts and
jointing material necessary to connect ductile iron pipes to existing or proposed pipes, valves,
accessories, manholes, wells, reservoirs, pumping stations,…and to fasten pipes to pipe supports
(clamps, collars, rubber rings, nuts, washers, anchors in concrete, etc ...).
The price shall cover as well hydrostatic pressure testing and disinfection testing of laid
pipes and remedying of all defects that may appear while testing. Ductile iron pipes shall be
classified for payment according to pipe diameter.
ITEM B.7: SUPPLY, LAYING AND TESTING OF WELDED STEEL PIPES AND
ACCESSORIES
The price of one linear meter shall include furnishing, transporting, storing, installing and
testing of welded steel pipes for potable water in roads, off roads and in special crossing areas
(bridges, watercourses, terraced ground, steep slopes, etc …) according to contract drawings or
according to shop drawings proposed by the Contractor and approved by the Engineer.
The price shall also include pipe cutting, pipe chamfering and all types of joints, Tees,
Reducers, elbows, adaptors, short pipes, puddle flanges, double sockets, flanges, bolts, nuts and
jointing material necessary to connect to existing or proposed pipes, valves, accessories,
manholes, wells, reservoirs, pumping stations,…and to fasten pipes to pipe supports (clamps,
collars, rubber rings, nuts, washers, anchors in concrete, etc ...).
The price shall cover as well hydrostatic pressure testing and disinfection testing of laid
pipes and remedying of all defects that may appear while testing. Welded steel pipes shall be
classified for payment according to pipe diameter.
The price shall include furnishing, transporting, storing and installing air valves (single
air release valves, triple function air valves and anti shock triple function air valves) in the
locations shown on the drawings, indicated by the Engineer and where needed. The price shall
also include but not be limited to:
- Supply and installation of tee (one piece or an assembly of multiple pieces),
- Supply and installation of joints, connections, flanges, bolts and nuts, dismantling joints,
flange adaptors,…
- Supply and installation of reducers,
- Supply and installation of transition pipes,
- Supply and installation of an isolating butterfly valve for each air valve,
- Supply and installation of a steel venting pipe for manhole with DN equal to the air valve
diameter,
- Construction of concrete supports and fixing devices (collars, clamps, nuts, washers, rubber
rings, steel plates, anchors in concrete…
- All components necessary to provide a complete installation.
Air valves shall be measured by number and shall be classified for payment according to
the type, diameter and nominal pressure of the air valve.
Note: The Contractor shall include in his shop drawings details of installation of each air valve
and shall not begin the works without the Engineer’s approval. Triple Function (Double
air valves) shall be used for the pumping and transmission lines and as required by the
Engineer. For the distribution lines, single air valves shall be used for pipe diameters
4” and triple Function (Double air valves) for pipe diameters > 4” and as required by the
Engineer.
The price shall include furnishing, transporting, storing and installing washout valves in
the locations shown on the drawings, indicated by the Engineer and where needed. Each washout
valve shall include but not be limited to:
- Supply and installation of tee (one piece or an assembly of multiple pieces),
- Supply and installation of valve, extension spindle, spindle guard and surface box unit
installed on the manhole top slab,
- Supply and installation of joints, connections, flanges, bolts and nuts, dismantling joints,
flange adaptors,…
- Supply and installation of reducers,
- Supply and installation of flap valve (if it is not possible to install a discharge pipe to a water
course or a canal),
- Construction of concrete supports,
- All components necessary to provide a complete installation.
In addition to the above components, the price shall include the installation of a
polyethylene or ductile iron pipe of the same diameter as the washout valve and according to the
service pressure from the manhole to the nearest watercourse or draining canal (maximum length
= 50 m) including asphalt (or concrete) cutting and removal, excavation in all types of soil and
locations (easy to access or not) to construct pipe trench, surrounding pipe with sand, backfilling,
repaving and pouring concrete if necessary.
Washout valves shall be measured by number and shall be classified for payment
according to the diameter and nominal pressure of the washout valve.
Note: The Contractor shall include in his shop drawings details of installation of each washout
valve and shall not begin the works without the Engineer’s approval.
The price shall include furnishing, transporting, storing and installing butterfly valves
(and related joints, flanges, concrete supports, adapters, fixing and mounting accessories,..) and
all necessary to make a complete installation in the locations shown on the drawings, indicated by
the Engineer and where needed. Dismantling joints or flange adaptors shall be provided and
installed with the butterfly valves of the distribution and transmission lines.
Butterfly valves shall be measured by number and shall be classified for payment
according to diameter and nominal pressure.
Note: The Contractor shall include in his shop drawings details of installation of each valve
(and related joints and adaptors) and shall not begin the works without the Engineer’s
approval. The Engineer is entitled to change the location of some valves if he deems
necessary.
This item shall consists of furnishing, transporting, storing, installing and testing pressure
relief valves and related fittings and accessories in the locations shown on the drawings or where
requested by the Engineer. The price shall include all items necessary to make a complete
installation (tees, elbows, reducers, short pipes, puddle flanges, by-pass pipes, joints, …) and to
insure the pressure drop indicated on the drawings.
Pressure relief valves shall be measured by number and shall be classified for payment
according to the diameter and nominal pressure of the pressure relief valve.
Note: The Contractor shall include in his shop drawings details of installation of each pressure
relief valve and shall not begin the works without the Engineer’s approval.
Construction of reinforced concrete manholes shall be done according to the details and
dimensions shown on the drawings and the price shall include but not be limited to:
- Traffic regulation, safety provisions and transport of excavated material unsuitable for re-use
to the disposal sites,
- Supply of all the components of the blinding concrete class D and reinforced concrete class A
(cement, aggregates, water, steel reinforcement, formwork, admixtures and all the related
accessories),
- Fixing of smooth formwork,
- Bending, cutting and placing of steel reinforcement,
- Batching, mixing, pouring, vibrating, curing and testing of concrete,
- Supply and installation of an access ladder and a heavy duty or medium duty ductile iron
cover and frame (according to the road classification and locations of manholes) as mentioned
in the technical specification and directed by the Engineer,
- Two layers of external bituminous coating,
- Epoxy mortar 12 mm thick on the concrete frame of the cover of manholes.
- Backfilling and surface reinstatement,
- Construction of reinforced concrete supports for all accessories inside manhole,
- Casting of reinforced concrete at the intersection area between the pipes and the exterior side
of the manhole walls, reinforced concrete shall be of enough thickness to ensure water
proofing (maximum volume for each manhole is 0.5m3),
- All items necessary to make a complete installation.
- Reinforced concrete manholes shall be measured by number and shall be classified for
payment according to manhole type.
Note: The Contractor shall include in his shop drawings details of installation of all fittings and
accessories inside each manhole and shall not begin the works without the Engineer’s
approval.
ITEM B.13: SELECTED FILL & BACKFILL (around thrust blocks & pipe supports)
Backfilling around thrust blocks and pipe supports shall include furnishing, transporting,
storing, placing, compacting and testing of backfill. Backfill shall consist of unclassified fill
(excavated material suitable for re-use or borrowed area products at the Contractor's expense)
according to the required thickness specified in the drawings, in the technical specifications and
as directed by the Engineer.
Backfilling around thrust blocks and pipe supports shall be measured by cubic meters and
shall also include land reinstatement.
Backfilling of pipe trenches shall be measured by linear meters along the center line of
pipes and shall include furnishing, transporting, storing, placing, compacting and testing of
backfill. Backfill shall consist of a sand fill protecting layer (initial backfill used for ductile iron
pipes) surrounding the pipes (or gravel bedding or cement stabilizer sand bedding and surround if
required) followed by an unclassified fill layer (main backfill: excavated material suitable for re-
use or borrowed area products at the Contractor's expense) according to the required thickness
specified in the drawings, in the technical specifications and as directed by the Engineer.
Backfilling of pipe trenches shall be classified for payment according to trench type.
Repaving of pipe trenches shall be measured by linear meters along the center line of
pipes and shall include furnishing, transporting, storing, placing, spreading, compacting and
testing the necessary materials for repaving pipe trenches and around manholes which consist of
an aggregate base course underneath an asphaltic (or concrete) layer(s) according to the required
thickness specified in the drawings and related to the road classification, in the technical
specifications and as directed by the Engineer.
Repaving of pipe trenches shall also include the recutting works of asphalt (or concrete)
required by collapse of trench edges and repaving of the whole cut area (originally paved) as
directed by the Engineer. Repaving of pipe trenches shall be classified for payment according to
trench type.
This item shall consist of furnishing, transporting, storing, installing and testing inline
check valves and related fittings and accessories in the locations shown on the drawings or where
requested by the Engineer. The price shall include but not be limited to:
- Supply and installation of two gate valves,
- Supply and installation of an inline check valve tilting disc type, slanted seat check valve or
45 angled seat short stroke flex swing , with separate or integrated bypass.
- Supply and installation of dismantling joints,
- All items necessary to make a complete installation (tees, elbows, reducers, short pipes,
puddle flanges, by-pass pipes, joints, …) and to insure the pressure drop indicated on the
drawings,
Inline check valves shall be measured by number and shall be classified for payment
according to the diameter of the inline check valve.
*Note: The Contractor shall include in his shop drawings details of installation of each
inline check valve and shall not begin the works without the Engineer’s approval.
This item shall consists of furnishing, transporting, storing, installing and testing pressure break
tanks (P.B.T.) and related fittings and accessories in the locations shown on the drawings and
where required by the Engineer. The price shall include but not be limited to:
- Supply and installation of one float valve,
- Supply and installation of three gate valves,
- Supply and installation of a filter with a washout valve,
- Supply and installation of a pressure relief valve,
- Supply and installation of dismantling joints,
- Supply and installation of pipes short pieces,
- All items necessary to make a complete installation (tees, elbows, reducers, short pipes, puddle
flanges, by-pass pipes, joints, …),
- Construction of two reinforced concrete manholes one upstream type E and one downstream
the P.B.T. type A,
- Construction of the Pressure Break Tank according to the dimensions mentioned on the
drawings including all civil works:
o Asphalt (or concrete) cutting and excavation in all types of soil and locations (easy to
access or not) including dewatering, supporting of excavation, traffic regulation, safety
provisions and transport of excavated material unsuitable for re-use to the disposal sites,
o Supply of all the components of the reinforced concrete (cement, aggregates, water, steel
reinforcement, formwork, admixtures and all the related accessories),
o Fixing of smooth formwork,
o Bending, cutting and placing of steel reinforcement,
o Batching, mixing, pouring, vibrating, curing and testing of concrete,
o Supply and installation of an access ladder and a heavy or medium duty cover and frame,
o 2 layers of external bituminous coating,
o Backfilling and surface reinstatement,
o Construction of reinforced concrete supports for all accessories inside manhole,
o Casting of reinforced concrete at the intersection area between the pipes and the exterior
side of the manhole walls, reinforced concrete shall be of enough thickness to ensure
water proofing,
o All items necessary to make a complete installation.
- All necessary extra excavation for pipe laying upstream and downstream not mentioned on the
pipe profiles,
Pressure break tanks shall be measured by number and shall be classified for payment according to
the pipe diameter and nominal pressure.
Note: The Contractor shall include in his shop drawings details of installation of each pressure
break tank and shall not begin the works without the Engineer’s approval.
This item shall consist of general cleaning and grubbing of the ground surface where
needed and or directed by the Engineer. This item shall include the following works:
- Removal of trees, trunks, roots, vegetation, surface debris, stones, rocks or any kind of dirt,
- Cart-away of removed material to dump area where permitted or on tips allocated by the
Contractor at his own responsibility,
- Preparation and submittal of one topographical survey plan scale 1/200 after clearing and
grubbing completion.
This item shall be measured in square meter of cleared and grubbed area and shall be the
net projected horizontal area in accordance to the drawings and survey plan submitted and
approved by the Engineer.
This item shall consist of excavating and disposing materials of any kind and type
encountered during work. This item shall pertain but not limited to pumping stations, reservoirs,
retaining walls, roads, underground walls, etc. Excavation works shall be carried out in all the
indicated locations on the drawings (easy to access or not), where needed and instructed by the
Engineer. This item shall include the following works:
- Blasting as specified in technical specification subject to the Engineer approval,
- Temporary disposition of water and electricity necessary for the work execution,
- Remove, seal, re-route existing utilities, if any, as required subject to Engineer consent,
- Excavation in any type of soil, to any depth, whatever found to be: Soft, Hard, Clay, Rock,
Hard rock etc,
- Removal of top soil to the required depth as indicated and specified on the drawings and as
directed by the Engineer,
- Keeping excavation free of water by any means,
- Any additional excavation to provide working space for structural works,
- Planking, strutting, shoring, sheet piling etc. necessary to support the vertical excavation
edges,
- Retrieving excavated material by any means, depositing in temporary heaps, selecting and
setting aside approved excavated material to be used in backfilling around structures and as
directed by the Engineer, including multiple handling of material,
- Cart-away surplus material to disposal sites where permitted or on tips allocated by the
contractor at his own responsibility.
This item shall be measured in cubic meter and shall be the net volume according to the
excavation limits indicated on Contract Drawings and as directed and approved by the Engineer.
Wherever excavation limits are not indicated on Contract Drawings, the limits shall be 50cm
away of blinding edges.
These items shall consist of supplying, transporting, placing and compacting one or more
layer of selected fill or backfill materials spread around structures, and where is needed, as
specified in technical specification and/or as directed by the Engineer. The following items shall
include the following works:
- Surface preparation, leveling, ramming, trimming, and grading of bottom excavation,
- Material procurement or excavation, loading and hauling,
- Material preparation, selecting or mixing, moisturizing, hauling, placing etc,
- Filling, compacting in horizontal or sloped layers.
Wherever backfilling limits are not indicated on Contract Drawings, the limits shall be
50cm away of blinding edges.
This item shall be measured in cubic meter and shall be the net volume according to the
Contract Drawings and as directed and approved by the Engineer
This item shall consist of supplying, transporting, placing and compacting one or more
layers of backfill materials.
This item shall include the following works:
- Protection of nearby structure during execution.
- Surface preparation, leveling, ramming, trimming, and grading of bottom excavation.
- Material procurement or excavation, loading and hauling.
- Material preparation, selecting or mixing, moisturizing, hauling, placing etc.
- Filling with selected rockfill material and compacting in horizontal layers not exceeding 30
cm in thickness.
- Compaction shall be forwarded with heavy equipment weighing 8 tons/lm of width as a
minimum with sufficient subsequent number of passes to attain the required degree of
compaction stated in the technical specifications.
Structural backfill shall consist of very sandy GRAVEL with COBBLES and
BOULDERS (as a rockfill) which exists on site.
Rockfill should be well-graded, sound, dense, hard and durable rock capable of being
spread and compacted in layers and should conform to the following gradation and specifications.

This item shall include the following works:

consist of good quality rock with a minimum Compressive Strength of 500 Kgf/cm2. The
aggregate should be well-graded and should conform to the following gradation and
specifications.
Very sandy GRAVEL with COBBLES and BOULDERS can also be used as base course
after resizing it into a gradation of 0/50mm and within the specifications given below.

plant site and buildings including but not limited to:

warning tape, corrosion protection for iron pipes, chlorination, disinfection and water quality
testing, and all other related works, all as specified, and to the satisfaction of the Engineer.
The pipes should be HDPE Pipes, PE 100 RC, PN 10, to DIN 8074/8075, or to ISO 4427. the
diameters of the pipes range from 20mm to 75mm and of lengths sufficient to cover all the
roads and supply all the buildings and the landscaping areas.
Trench excavation in any type of soil including rock complete including, but not limited to
the following:
Grading or leveling and compacting or trimming bottom of excavation;
Planking, strutting or trimming sides of excavation;
Keeping excavation free from all water sources;
Protection of existing service utilities (if any) and provision of necessary temporary works to
maintain utilities in use during and until completion of works;
Backfilling with selected excavated or imported fill materials;

Supply, install, connect and test the necessary fittings and accessories (Elbows, Tees,
Reducers, Adaptors,...) for water pipes complete including all necessary fixing accessories,
corrosion protection, chlorination, disinfection and water quality testing, and all related
works, all as specified, shown on the drawings and to the satisfaction of the Engineer.
Supply and install the necessary valves and gate valves assemblies to BS or ISO standard
complete including valves, wheels, flange spigots, flange sockets, flange adaptors,
dismantling joints, double flanged pipes, socket/spigot pieces, all necessary fittings (bends,
reducers, etD.), gate and flap valves, accessories (air valves, washouts,...), concrete supports,
corrosion protection, connecting, testing and all other related works, all as specified, and to
the satisfaction of the Engineer.
Water Connections Using Tapping Collars or Tapping Saddles and including: 150 mm
extendible ductile iron surface box unit, Stop valve, ferrule, saddle, excavation works, all
necessary operating devices and accessories, extension protective PVC tube, Protective hood,
testing, backfilling, compacting in layers and all other related works. Preparation of design
and shop drawings and submission to the Engineer for approval.
This item shall include all necessary to install a complete sanitary sewer system for the whole treatment
plant site and buildings including but not limited to:
Supply, install, connect and test the pipes for pressure and gravity sewer system with all
necessary fittings, jointing materials and fixing accessories, complete all as specified, and to
the satisfaction of the Engineer. The pipes should be uPVC for gravity sewer lines and ductile
iron for pressure pipes. The diameters of the pipes range from 80mm to 200mm and of
lengths sufficient to cover all the roads and collect all the buildings sewers.
Trench excavation in any type of soil including rock complete including, but not limited to
the following:
Grading or leveling and compacting or trimming bottom of excavation;

Connection of Pipes to Manholes
Lifting Stations wherever necessary: Wet well for buildings sewer line with reinforced concrete
manhole or chamber including heavy duty manhole cover and frame, of clear opening 600mm,
and with removable R.D. cover 1x1m2 for lifting the submersible pumps (1duty and 1 standby)
including aluminum steps and all civil, mechanical and electrical works. The pump discharge
flow and head will be calculated as necessary, the pump selection shall be proposed by the
Contractor to the approval of the Engineer.
Lifting Station discharge manhole
Preparation of design and shop drawings and submission to the Engineer for approval.
This item shall include all necessary to install a complete storm water drainage system for
the whole treatment plant site (roads, external spaces, buildings surround, …) including but not
limited to:
- Supply, install, connect and test the necessary pipes for drainage system with all necessary
fittings, jointing materials and fixing accessories, complete all as specified, shown on the
drawings and to the satisfaction of the Engineer. The pipes should be Reinforced Concrete
pipes 300mm diameter and of lengths sufficient to cover all the roads and collect all the
spaces and buildings drainage systems.
- Trench excavation in any type of soil including rock complete including, but not limited to
the following:
Grading or leveling and compacting or trimming bottom of excavation;
Planking, strutting or trimming sides of excavation;
Keeping excavation free from all water sources;
Protection of existing service utilities (if any) and provision of necessary temporary
works to maintain utilities in use during and until completion of works;
Backfilling with selected excavated or imported fill materials;
Compacting in layers to required density;
Removing and disposing off surplus materials to approved dumping area;
and all other related works, all as specified, and to the satisfaction of the Engineer.
- Excavation for ditches with varying depth, 500mm to 1000mm: proposed where road finished
around level is lower than adjacent around embankment.
This item shall include the Design, and submission of all necessary calculations and shop
drawings to the Engineer for approval, then supply all required materials, equipment, tools and
accessories, and construct the approved automatic irrigation system complete including but not
limited to, (All Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Works), underground tanks of suitable capacities,
pumps, controllers, station valves, electrical valves, solenoid valves, irrigation piping system
including manifold pipes, lateral pipes, manholes, bubblers, spray heads, pressure compensating
drip emitters, dripline, emitters, all necessary fittings and accessories, connection to water
line/tank, electrical installations including connections, communication cables, accessories, surge
protection, start-up tests, testing and commissioning, and all other related works, all as specified,
shown on approved shop drawings, to the satisfaction of the Engineer. Trees, shrubs, ground
covers and grass plantation shall have each separate programs.
This item shall include but not limited to the following works:
- All necessary works for the Khabur River water course diversions during the whole period of
works of execution of the intake structure and all the relative works of water course training
and all the necessary works requested by the Engineer.
- Identification of work sections requiring diversion.
- Submittal of a program of works for the concerned structure showing the chronological orders
of execution together with the proposed diversion works. This program is subject to the
Engineer's approval.
- Proposed method statement including relevant design calculation, shop drawings & revised
drawings.
- List of proposed manpower, machinery, material and equipment to carry out each work
section diversion.
- Water diversion schemes.
- Cofferdams with all relevant design criteria & calculation.
- Modifications of water courses alignments works.
- Water extraction & conveying systems such as gravity pipe line or channels, etc. with all
relevant technical details that lead to the system selection.
- Shoring, bracing, strutting etc.
- Excavation, backfilling & or filling.
- Reinstatement of the excavated, backfilled and or filled area to its original status by any
means.
- Assurance that all pursuant works are done in dry state.
- Any other features and structures necessary for diverting the water course and making the
working area dry.
- Continuous supply of potable water, irrigation water, etc. to all users during the period of
project construction if applicable.
All aforesaid shall be presented to the Engineer for his consent and approval 15 days prior
to commencement of works. Work shall not start unless approval is forwardeE. However, the
contractor shall not be relieved from his obligations and responsibilities towards designing &
executing the diversion proposed at his own risk, and no re-evaluation or compensation shall take
effect whatsoever in case of proposal failure even if Engineer approval is duly ascertaineE. The
contractor shall be solely responsible for safety & workability of the diversion schemes and all
related works as noted above.
Note: In case the concrete is to be supplied by a batch plant outside the site, computerized
delivery note should be issued by the batching plant and delivered to the Engineer for each
transit mixer.
This item shall consist of executing reinforced concrete class A which is composed of
minimum 350 kg cement/m3 (f’c = 300 Kg/cm2) for foundations, beams, retaining walls, columns,
slabs, canals, manholes, reservoirs, underground walls and any other reinforced concrete element.
This item shall include the following works:
- Specifying design mix to be followed subject to Engineer approval,
- Supplying, transporting and storing of the concrete ingredients,
- Mixing, Pouring, transporting, placing, vibrating and curing and depicting areas of pouring
against earth or un-blinded hardcore if any,
- Horizontal, sloped, vertical and curved work,
- Placing or finishing to falls and cross falls,
- Smooth finish,
- Construction and contraction joints, water bars, dowels and caps,
- Working around pipes, reinforcements, cutting channels, chases, mortises, pockets and holes
including grouting, filling and making good,

This item shall consist of executing blinding concrete of class “C” or “D” which is
composed of minimum 250 kg of cement/m3 (f’c =200 Kg/cm2 ) underneath the structures and
where needed and as directed by the Engineer. This item shall include the following works:
- Specifying design mix to be followed subject to Engineer approval,
- Furnishing, transporting and storing of the concrete ingredients,
- Mixing, Pouring, transporting, placing, vibrating and curing and depicting areas of pouring
against earth or un-blinded hardcore if any,
- Horizontal, sloped, vertical and curved work,
- Placing or finishing to falls and cross falls,
- Basic plain finish, tamped finish or wrought finish,
- Formwork to edges and sloping tops,
- Any width or height of form-work,
- Form-work main frames, plywood and timber,
- Supports, battens, struts, bracing, wedging and fixing, easing, striking and removing of
formwork,
- All cutting, splayed edging or alike,
- Re-using formwork and or removing formwork from site.
This item shall be measured in cubic meter and shall be the net volume in accordance
with the drawings.
This item shall consist of supplying, transporting, storing, and placing concrete blocks for
ribbed slabs and walls including cement mortar furnishing and placing, where needed and as
directed by the Engineer.
This item shall include galvanized steel angles to fix the hollow blocks walls to the
reinforced concrete columns, beams and ceilings. All joints between reinforced concrete and
hollow block wall shall have expanded galvanized steel mesh fixed on both sides of joints with
minimum of 15 cm overlap. This item shall also include all the requirements of the technical
specifications.
This item shall be sound and thermal proofing.
This item shall be measured in cubic meters of built walls and ribbed slabs and shall be
the net volume after deduction of all openings and reinforced concrete elements, and in
accordance with the drawings or as executed in situ, measured in the presence of the Engineer and
according to his approval.
This item shall consist of supplying, transporting, storing and installing waterstop with all
necessary accessories complete. This item shall include the following works:
- Waterstop application as per manufacturer recommendation, fastening, splicing, welding to
special water-stop elements such as cross waterstop, Tee waterstop etc.
- Waterstop support and protection against damage during progress of work,
- Filler application to joint. The joint filler shall be 2 cm in thickness, material subject to
Engineer approval,
- Joint sealant (if necessary) material subject to Engineer approval,
- Cleaning the joint by means of compressed air all along the joint length,
- Making sure that the filler board is at place,
- Backing cord application and Shatter to vertical edges,
- Priming,
- Sealant application as per manufacturer recommendation filling the joint from cord top on.
This item shall be measured in linear meter of installed Waterstop as indicated on
drawings.
This item shall consist of supplying, transporting, storing and installing 2 coats of
bituminous material forming thus a damp-proofing layer. This item shall include the following
works:
- Concrete surface preparation,
- Primer supply and application,
- Bitumen supply and application as per manufacturer recommendation.
This item shall be measured in square meter of bituminous coating application.
This item shall consists of supplying, transporting, storing, protecting and placing
multiple coats of waterproof material in conformity with the technical specifications, material
technical sheet and as approved by the Engineer on the interior bottom slab, interior walls and
roof of water tanks. The works under this item shall also include surface preparation (including

- All the necessary for the proper completion of works as requested.
This item shall be measured in square meters of red clay roof tiles quantity as indicated on
the drawings, as directed and approved by the Engineer.
This item shall consist of supplying, transporting, storing and placing pre-cast concrete
curbs where needed and as directed by the Engineer.
This item shall include the following works:
- Construct non-mountable pre-cast curb to road walkways dimension of which shall be
20 cm x 30 cm x 50 cm.
- Item shall include for excavation, back-fill, cart away of surplus material, supply and
erection of non-mountable curb (concrete class A) including blinding (concrete class

units) from an independent lab showing the following curbs specifications: All pre-
cast curbs shall have a cement content of 350 kg/m3 minimum and should according
to French fascicule No. 31 be of class A and have a flexural strength greater than
10Mpa.
This item shall be measured in linear meter of concrete curbs installed as indicated on
approved shop drawings.
This item shall consist of supplying, transporting, storing and placing 40x40x4cm thick colored
cement tiles with a tile face grooved in square of 5cm where needed and as directed by the
Engineer.
Tiles to be used shall be in compliance to the following standards and subject to the
Engineer’s approval.

An ordinary cement layer tile face with a minimum thickness of 15 mm (at a rate of 500
kg of cement per m3 of sand).

A special mix design for the concrete should allow minimal presence of air within the
concrete and improve its compactness. The cement layer tile face should be vibrated and the two
layers compressed up to 150kg/cm2.

ITEM C.6.9: TREES AND SHRUBS, GROUND COVERS AND GRASS COVERS
Supply, install and maintain trees, shrubs, ground covers and grass covers complete
including all necessary fertilizers, fertilizing, planting, accessories, mulching, plant support,
pruning, watering, protection, maintenance and all other related works, all as specified, shown on
the drawings and to the satisfaction of the Engineer.
Prior to starting of any work the Contractor shall, at no additional cost, design the
plantation of trees, shrubs, ground covers and grass, and submit all necessary plantation layout
and shop drawings to the Engineer for approval.
This item shall be measured in square meter and shall be the net value as indicated on the
drawings and as measured in the presence of the Engineer and according to his approval.
This item shall consist of supplying, transporting, storing and placing 60 cm width
stainless steel kitchen floor cabinets where needed and as directed by the Engineer.
This item shall include:
- Stainless steel doors with all its accessories,
- Stainless steel shelves and drawers,
- Stainless steel counter top of 60 cm wide,
- Stainless steel sink with one bowl and one drainer,
- All necessary items for the proper completion of the works.
This item shall be measured in linear meter of floor and wall kitchen cabinets installation

This item shall consist of fabricating, supplying, transporting, storing, and fixing a
stainless steel cat ladder where needed and as directed by the Engineer.
This item shall be composed of:
- 2 numbers of 3” stainless steel tube fixed to concrete with anchors and steel plates,

This item shall be measured per linear meter of stainless steel cat ladder installed as

works (stainless steel) such as: reservoirs and valve chambers access openings, reservoirs vent
pipes, hand rails, steps, cable trenches covers, grills, checkered plates, grating etc… as shown on
drawings and as deemed to be necessary and as requested by the Engineer on site. The works shall
include the following:
- Submission of application details and revision thereto if any subject to Engineer
consent.
- Supply and installation of all components, elements, fixing devices, supports, fittings,
coverings and accessories.
- Fabrication, erection, including temporary support and bracing.
- Any number, section type, size or length of components and fittings.
- Axle, locks, rails, operating mechanism, bolts, nuts, washers, rivets, anchor bolts,
fixing devices and the like.
- Cleaning, painting (3 layers of epoxy painting or galvanizing or Zink coating) of all
equipment and fittings as described in the technical specifications and as requested by
the Engineer.

This item shall be measured in kilogram of steel works installed as indicated on drawings
and as requested by the Engineer.
This item shall consist of fabricating, supplying, transporting, storing, and installing
galvanized steel or PVC pipes for rain water drainage for the reservoirs including pipe
connections, tools, labor and all necessary requirements to make a complete installation.
All reservoirs shall be drained properly to the nearest stream without damaging property
as approved by the Engineer. The number, diameter and location of drainage pipes shall be as
indicated on reservoirs drawings.
This item shall be measured by linear meter of drainage pipes for each reservoir
completely installed with all necessary connections and fixing accessories to the approval of the
Engineer. Draining the roof slabs of reservoirs and pumping station including the floor drains.
Supply and installation of a heavy or medium duty of Ductile Iron cover (according to the
road classification and location of manholes) and frame as mentioned in the technical
specification and directed by the Engineer.
This item shall be measured per unit of ductile iron cover completely installed to the
approval of the Engineer.
Supply and installation of a steel door as indicated on the drawings, mentioned in the
technical specification and directed by the Engineer. This item shall be measured per unit of
access doors completely installed to the approval of the Engineer.
This item shall include the following:
1. Supply and installation of fixed frames in walls, wedges, plasters, etc ...
2. Supply and installation of all necessary steel parts, stainless steel ironmongery and
hardware, locks, including hinges and all accessories.
3. Paintings of all kinds not less than four coats. Two minimum protective coats
(corrosion protection coats for steel or base for wood) and two minimum final coats of
color designated by the Engineer.
4. Transportation.
Note: The geotechnical investigation shall be performed in order to evaluate the bearing
capacities, material characteristics and potential geotechnical problems of the foundation soil for
sites where structures will be executed and where requested by the Engineer.
This item shall include but not limited to the following works:
- Plans scale 1/500 showing locations, coordinates and characteristics of all proposed
investigation boreholes.
- Report specifying:
Location, depth and characteristics of each borehole.
The nature, number and distribution of samples with all field and laboratory tests
to be performed on each sample.
The nature of investigation and tests to be conducted in each borehole, prior to
commencement of works.
For every site to be investigated a separate report should be prepared by the Contractor
and submitted to the Engineer for approval.
This item shall include the relocation and operation of machinery, equipment, instruments
and alike, from borehole to another (in the same site or in another far site) including labor, tools,
accessories etc. mobilization and demobilization between consecutive boreholes or as deemed
necessary on site, complete, subject to Engineer consent.
This item shall consist of drilling boreholes in any type of soil except rock to a depth not
exceeding 30 meters for a diameter size to be approved by the Engineer.
This item shall include the following works:
- Drilling to any depth below 30 m.
- Casing, sampling, coring, preserving, storing, delivering and any other requirements
for soil sample preservation as requested and directed by the Engineer.
This item shall consist of drilling boreholes in rock to a depth not exceeding 30 meters for
a diameter size to be approved by the Engineer.
This item shall include the following works:
- Drilling in rock to any depth below 30 m.
- Casing, sampling, coring, preserving, storing, delivering and any other requirements
for soil sample preservation as requested and directed by the Engineer.
ITEM C.8.5: LABORATORY AND SITE TESTS ON SOIL AND ROCK SAMPLES
This item shall consist of conducting all site and laboratory tests on soil and rock samples
for each borehole, requested by the Engineer and aiming to evaluate the bearing capacity and to
identify any potential geotechnical problem. These tests could include, but not limited to:
- SPT, Specific gravity of soil, Porosity, Natural moisture content, Void index,
Unconfined Compressive Strength, Atteberg limits, Chemical tests, Abrasion test,
Los Angeles test, Sieve and hydrometer analysis, Shear test, Cohesion and angle of
friction.
- Any other site and Laboratory test necessary for the calculation of the bearing
capacity and determine the characteristics of the foundation soil on several depths.
The number of samples and tests as well as the nature of tests to be performed should be
approved by the Engineer for each borehole.
The work shall consist of submitting final detailed comprehensive report, for every site to
be investigated, containing all investigations, boreholes samples and tests conducted under this
section. This item shall include detailed description of all core samples executed and it shall
summarize:
- Soil strata
- Rock degree of alteration
- Weight of discontinuities
- Water head measurements and results
- Rock quality designation (RQD).
- Detailed description of all in situ tests and laboratory tests executed.
- Calculation and conclusions of soil bearing capacity in each borehole in function of
the borehole depth.
- Proposition of the most convenient foundation type for each structure in the
concerned site.
- Recommendations for potential geotechnical problems in the foundation such as:
sliding, instability, excessive settlement… and proposals for treatment.

The Contract Rates for various classes of labor in the Dayworks Schedule shall cover all
the Contractor’s obligations whatsoever in providing and maintaining such labor at the place of
work including wages, payment for conditions and for skill, bonus traveling and subsistence
allowances and expenses, guaranteed time, holidays with pay, insurance of all kinds, pensions,
site supervision, watching, administrative and welfare chores, the use and maintenance of staging,
scaffolding, portable electric tools, non-mechanical plant and hand tools of every kind, overheads,
profit and all incidental expenses.
