the study, objectives of the study and the definitions of terms.

INTRODUCTION

Performance tasks is a learning activity or assessment that asks

students to perform their knowledge, understanding and proficiency.

Performance task has the highest percent in grading system. This is

implemented so that students really experience and perform the target

competencies for every subject. Performance task will help ABM

Students to experience the real situation, boost their self-confidence

and determination and become more equipped, skilled and trained as

competitive learners.

1
INFORMATICS COLLEGE

This can be also be a guide for them to express themselves on what

they really know, what they feel and what strategies and understanding

they will present and perform in the given situation or scenario

presented by the teachers.

Performance tasks could also improve ABM Students social aspect

through working collaboratively and cooperatively with their

groupmates. Sharing ideas, thoughts and beliefs with one another help

them know their own strengths and weaknesses so that they will be

able to work with understanding and helping each other.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Performance Tasks nowadays are being deprived or discouraged

by many students because of taking it as a burdensome work or task; and

there are some students who are lately discussing the importance of

having performance tasks in school that will help everybody’s personalities

grow in an active way, and as students of Informatics Northgate College

we have seen that students mostly participate in doing written works than

participating in performance tasks activities, we think that performance

tasks helps every students to grow and mature in their personalities; and

because of losing the heart to do performance tasks, students are not

much really improving and have not been developing their character in a

good or mannerly way. Other students have no ability to demonstrate their

unique abilities the first thing that affects themselves because, even in a

small way they have the opportunity to demonstrate their ability, but they

did not have the courage to show it because of lack of confidence and has

not enough knowledge on how they can show with others. And the second

thing affects them is their grades, it may affect their grades as this will be

the basis for whether they are rising or learning.

3
INFORMATICS COLLEGE

Students who participate in any activities/ co- curricular activities

get a lot of benefits including higher grades, test scores, higher

educational achievements and higher self-confidence. For many student

performance tasks present an opportunity to practice social skills and to

experiment in activities that may represent a career interest. In short

explanation if students cannot participate in any school activity they

cannot practice their selves to boost their personality.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

The following theories will show how personality be build or developed

and this will set as a precept that the research will be effective.

Behavioral Psychology

By Kendra Cherry Medically reviewed by Steven Gans, updated on

(2019) Behaviorism, also known as behavioral psychology, is a theory of

learning based on the idea that all behaviors are acquired through

conditioning. Conditioning occurs through interaction with the

environment. Behaviorists believe that our responses to environmental

stimuli shape our actions.

1. According to this school of thought, behavior can be studied in a

systematic and observable manner regardless of internal mental states.

2. According to this perspective, only observable behavior should be

considered—cognitions, emotions, and moods are far too subjective.

Strict behaviorists believed that any person can potentially be trained to

perform any task, regardless of genetic background, personality traits, and

internal thoughts (within the limits of their physical capabilities). It only

requires the right conditioning.

This figure 1 illustration shows the overview of the work to be

done, the positive and negative effects of performance tasks in every

student personality or character. It represents the possible outcomes if the

students did not / if they did participate in doing their performance tasks,

and this shows how helpful performance tasks are for every student. This

illustration adheres that students will be able to develop good characters

or traits that could make them handy in any work they do. It includes the

necessary input to come up with a good outcome or result. There is

problem that might be answered through the process of conceptual

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The main purpose of the study is to help the students in Informatics

Northgate College think that performance tasks helps the character be

built or have growth:

1. What are the negative effects if the students did not participating in
performance task:

1.1 Low Self-esteem

1.2 Slow Learning Progress
1.3 Low Grades

2. How does Performance tasks help every student in terms of

character and personality? :

2.1 It pushes the students to participate in activities that test the

character
2.2 It helps them discover more of who they are, and who should
they be more

3. What are the traits that every students might be develop? :

3.1 Patience
3.2 Persistency
3.3 Accountability
3.4 Discipline

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The Researchers believed that having performance tasks in

schools will help the student’s confidence or self-esteem improve in an

active way and it will develop good characteristic, the students will truly

benefit in the way that will push them to think that they need to participate

in activities of performance tasks, that it can boost their confidence, self-

esteem and help them have more good personalities or characters such

as accountability and patience. The students will put an effort if they’ll

know the benefits of participating performance tasks and encouraged to

those characters that can be develop. If the students will participate

performance tasks it will reflects the image of school because of the

students who are willing to participate in order build their personality. Not

only the school but also the teachers, they’ll be happy if the students is

participating and also the parents of the students because the students

will get a higher grade in school. That’s why the researchers gave the

importance of the personality of the students that be built in participating in

performance tasks.

The researchers believed that performance task has a lot of

benefits for every student in Informatics Northgate College, like some

activities in these subjects:

Physical Activities: these helps the students participate in active

movements or works that help them enhance their physical

Intellectual Skills: involves the students to use their minds and

tests the student’s skills to solve problems such as math problems.

Personal Management: these involves the students to have

discipline in managing their time and helps the students to produce good

intrapersonal characters.

Maturity and Development: these involves developing the growth

and maturity of a students in terms of values activities, helping the

students to improve their personality and strengthen their weaknesses.

Emotional Stability: these involves strengthening our emotion or

right motivation and having a confident and brave heart to do the assigned

task.

ASSUMPTIONS OF THE STUDY

The students will be convinced that performance tasks are really

helps in building their personality or character as a person and they will be

encouraged to be participative in school performance tasks activities or

works in their schools. Students will realize that Getting involved in

activities outside of school can help them to meet new people that would

help them to improve their social skills and these activities also help

students to expand their network, which is beneficial for finding career

opportunities after graduation. The researchers proof that performance

task are helpful in building personality and to make every student to know

the essence of having a good personality and to encourage them to

participate in every activity in school and discovering more of themselves.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

This study covers some thoughts about how performance task helps

every student in Informatics Northgate College build their personality or

character. Due to many discussions nowadays, we are trying to attempt to

help every student know that they should participate in doing and loving

performance tasks in their schools. This study focused in the way how

does performance tasks affects the character or personality building. The

researchers want to prove or to convince every student that performance

tasks is helpful. The importance of why the researchers conduct this study

to be able to show to others that building personality is very helpful in the

life of students. This is very important to every student to have a strong

self -confidence. This study that the researchers created can be beneficial

to every student. Researchers believes that having performance task is

important because through students can communicate, shares their own

ideas to others, also participating in school and involvement in activities in

school can be helpful to boost their confidence. It will be very useful to

them in everything that they'd do. If students have self-confidence they

can say what they're ideas, opinion or everything that they want to say to

others.

15

The researchers focused on the development of the students through

performance tasks on how it can help them build themselves. There will

be a development with their personal character, it may help them lengthen

their patience, have discipline in time management and will develop them

being accountable and responsible and accepting and doing their tasks in

their career. One of our targets most especially is students. Researchers

think that students could really relate to this study. Students should have a

self-confidence of all the time. In every classroom have students and

teachers who are having communications, student participations, and

sharing own ideas. But the problem is there are students who are chose to

not participate and are shy or afraid to be in front of the class which is not

good because their confidence getting low.

CHAPTER 2

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDY

In this chapter, it illustrates the review related study and review related

literature from local and foreign study and literature.

RELATED LITERATURE:

FOREIGN:

As stated to (Richard Wolf 2005) Performance assessment, despite

popular belief, has had a long history of use in education. However, that

use has, by and large, been confined to the classroom. Teachers routinely

use extended assignments, essays, projects, and reports not only as a

way of assessing student performance but also as learning activities.

Today, number of people are advocating the use of educational

achievement. There are number of theoretical, methodological, and

practical problems involved in the use performance assessment in such

programs and studies. These are identified and discussed. Suggestions

INFORMATICS COLLEGE
Cyberzone Filinvest Corporate, Indo-China Dr, Alabang,
Muntinlupa, Metro Manila

for how these problems may be addressed are presented. It seems that it

will take some time to solve these problems.

20

The measurement of educational achievement in large scale studies of

student performance at the primary and secondary school levels is the

midst of a revolution. Ten, twenty and even thirty years ago, large scale

studies of student achievement relied almost exclusively on the use of

multiple choice or short answer questions. This is not to say that many

nations did not make use of other forms of questions, notably essay

questions, but their use was largely confined to examination systems that

had a long history of use. Research studies relied primarily on the use of

multiple choices questions because they could more efficiently cover

subject matter domains and could be scored quickly and easily.

According to (Melissa Kelly 2019) Performance-based learning is

when students participate in performing tasks or activities that are

meaningful and engaging. The purpose of this kind of learning is to help

students acquire and apply knowledge, practice skills, and develop

independent and collaborative work habits. The culminating activity or

INFORMATICS COLLEGE
Cyberzone Filinvest Corporate, Indo-China Dr, Alabang,
Muntinlupa, Metro Manila

product for performance-based learning is one that lets a student

demonstrate evidence of understanding through a transfer of skills.

21

LOCAL:

As indicated by Saefurrohman (2016) found that “Filipino junior high

school English teachers made and prepared their own assessments” as

compared to Indonesian junior high school English teachers who only

“used items from published textbooks.” Nonetheless, the nature,

effectiveness, alignment with the standards, and authenticity of these self-

made tasks, which might have been contextualized in public schools, shall

be investigated.

In an exploration into the assessment reform policy and its implementation

in the Philippine public secondary education, Plata (2007) uncovered that

there might have been other factors that “led to the limited implementation

of the assessment reform” by participating English teachers from rural and

urban public schools in this study whose “data collection started in 2003

up to 2007.” With the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, more

commonly known as the K to 12, a reform in assessment in pursuance of

INFORMATICS COLLEGE
Cyberzone Filinvest Corporate, Indo-China Dr, Alabang,
Muntinlupa, Metro Manila

its DepEd Order 73 mandated that “all students will be assessed based on

KPUP (knowledge, process, understanding, and performance/product).

22

RELATED STUDY

FOREIGN:

As indicated by (Greet Mia Jos Fastré 2010) This study

investigated the effect of performance-based versus competence-based

assessment criteria on task performance and self-assessment skills

among 39 novice secondary vocational education students in the domain

of nursing and care. In a performance-based assessment group students

are provided with a preset list of performance-based assessment criteria,

describing what students should do, for the task at hand. The

performance-based group is compared to a competence-based

assessment group in which students receive a preset list of competence-

based assessment criteria, describing what students should be able to do.

The test phase revealed that the performance-based group outperformed

the competence-based group on test task performance. In addition, higher

INFORMATICS COLLEGE
Cyberzone Filinvest Corporate, Indo-China Dr, Alabang,
Muntinlupa, Metro Manila

performance of the performance-based group was reached with lower

reported mental effort during training, indicating a higher instructional

efficiency for novice students.

23

Performance assessments are making a strong comeback after nearly

disappearing from the state and national scene around the turn of this

century (Stecher, 2010). In 2014, the Virginia General Assembly passed

legislation to eliminate several Standards of Learning (SOL) tests and

gave local school boards the option to use authentic performance

assessments and integrated assessments to ensure students are learning

the content in these areas (Virginia Board of Education, 2014). The terms

“performance assessment” and “performance task” are sometimes used

interchangeably. However, Stecher (2010) saw performance assessment

as a compilation of performance tasks and defined performance task as “a

structured situation in which stimulus materials and a request for

information or action are presented to an individual, who generates a

response that can be rated for quality using explicit standards”

INFORMATICS COLLEGE
Cyberzone Filinvest Corporate, Indo-China Dr, Alabang,
Muntinlupa, Metro Manila

24

LOCAL:

According to (Racquel G. Magsino 2017) Performance task provide

students’ need to work more independently and to encourage them to pay

attention to the quality of their work. This also enable the teacher to

efficiently provide students with information on the strengths and

weaknesses of students’ works. Parents can also monitor their children’s

work in school and help their children check their own work at home

As indicated by (Jay McTighe 2015) Performance tasks are routinely

used in certain disciplines, such as visual and performing arts, physical

education, and career-technology where performance is the natural focus

of instruction. However, such tasks can (and should) be used in every

subject area and at all grade levels.

INFORMATICS COLLEGE
Cyberzone Filinvest Corporate, Indo-China Dr, Alabang,
Muntinlupa, Metro Manila

Performance tasks can be used to engage students in meaningful

learning. Since rich performance tasks establish authentic contexts that

reflect genuine applications of knowledge, students are often motivated

and engaged by such “real world” challenges.

25

SYNTHESIS
The related literature gives the researchers related ideas for the

study. The related ideas will help the researchers to strengthen the

research or study and it provides proof for the study. This will be helpful

and a good basis for the study. The related study will help us to define the

similarities between the study of the researchers and them.

Melissa Kelly (2019) It said that if the students participate in

activities it will be engaging and meaningful. The purpose of this kind of

learning is to help students acquire and apply knowledge, practice skills,

and develop independent and collaborative work habits. The outcome of

participating activities is like culminating activities that they will see what

skills they developed. Plata (2007) It said that it is important to have the

knowledge, process, understanding and performance. Racquel G.

Magsino (2017) It said that through performance tasks students work

INFORMATICS COLLEGE
Cyberzone Filinvest Corporate, Indo-China Dr, Alabang,
Muntinlupa, Metro Manila

independently to develop more of themselves. Jay McTighe (2015) It said

that performance task will acquire discipline. Performance tasks is helpful

to every student to engage in a meaningful learning and they can reflect

themselves a genuine application of knowledge and being authentic.

26

There is a relation between the synthesis and the statement of the

problem to answers that the performance is helpful in building the

personality of a person or every student.

Those citations above show the similarities and differences of our

study and the related literature. This will help the researchers to engage

more ideas and to complete the study as well.

METHODOLOGY

In this chapter, the researchers showed the discussion of the

method and the analysis that is being used in the study. The research

design, instrument validation and the process of this research.

RESEARCH DESIGN

The researchers used descriptive research design in gathering data

information need to determine the importance of having performance to be

built in every student in Informatics in their personality. The researchers

chose the descriptive research design because the researchers focused

on one’s behaviour of the students that might be developed through

performance task. It also shows the behaviour of every student, there are

some of the students are not able to pass some of subjects because of not

participating performance tasks in school. But some of the students who

are active in participating in activities or performance tasks in school,

they’re not just pass also they learn a new thing can help their life to

developed and improve some ways.

BASIS OF THE RESEARCH

The researchers conducted this study because of what the

researchers experienced and what the researchers saw in every

student in this time. It relates to reality because the researchers itself

experienced that through performance task it will developed the

personality of one’s person. The researchers conducted this study in

order them to developed more of themselves and to know more about

their purpose in life and they will not only stay in that situation or in

other term is immature but through performance task they’ll help

themselves to developed and improved their personality. The

researchers saw that having performance will be very helpful in

building their personality. The researchers thought that if we are

trained and equipped the result will be good.

question. The researchers conducted survey on February 10, 2020. The

researchers conducted the survey in 2 sections of Grade 11- ABM

students which located in Informatics Northgate College for a total of 50

students. The researchers focused and surveyed the 2 sections of ABM

because ABM are business students, it will help them to develop more of

themselves and in business world, business is not easy to start, you’ll

need to persevere. This chapter also expected the positive outcome of the

research.

INTERPRETATION OF DATA
