GeoSwath Plus Seatex MRU (SB11) Configuration Procedure
1. Introduction
This document details the procedure required to configure a Seatex MRU fitted inside the
SB11 subsea housing.
If requested that the MRU be configured differently (e.g. to output a different string
format) then please consult a member of engineering.
Only adjustments described in this document should be carried out. If any other
adjustments or repairs are necessary, or if the result of any test is not as indicated, the unit
shall be deemed to have failed the test. A red ‘Rejected’ label should then be attached to
the unit and an Inspection Defect Report (GEO QA 04/89) should be completed.

2. Procedure Requirements
2.1. Equipment
• Laptop/PC with LAN and RS232 ports.
• Kongsberg GeoAcoustics SB11 sensor interface cable
Or
• MRU-T-23 interface cable (supplied with sensor), complete with:
MRU-E-P24 (power supply)
MRU-T-015 (Ethernet configuration cable)
CAT6 UTP cross-over cable
2.2. Software
• Seatex ‘MRC+’ configuration software (supplied on USB flash drive with the MRU)
2.3. Preparation
Note GeoSwath Compact Deck Unit owners: please use the laptop to configure
the MRU.
• Install the Seatex MRC+ configuration software on the laptop (or Deck Unit).
• If the MRU has never been configured by Kongsberg GeoAcoustics then set the laptop
(or Deck Unit) IP address to 192.168.1.200.
Connections when using an SB11 sensor cable
• Connect both connectors ‘A’ and ‘B’ to the MRU.
• Connect the sensor cable to the +24V power outlet on the Deck Unit.
• Connect the 9 way D-type labelled ‘MRU COM2’ to ‘COM1’ on the laptop (or Deck
Unit).
• Plug the sensor cable connector labelled ‘MRU CONFIG’ into the LAN port on the
laptop (or Deck Unit).
Connections when using the MRU-T-015 configuration cable
Do not connect the SB11 sensor cable and MRU-T-015 cables to the MRU at the
same time. Doing so will supply +24V to both Connectors ‘A’ and ‘B’ and may
damage the MRU.
• Connect the 8 way Seacon connector from cable MRU-T-23 onto connector ‘B’ on the
MRU. Connect the other end onto the Ethernet configuration cable MRU-T-015.
Connect the power supply (MRU-E-P24) to the MRU-T-015 box. Connect the CAT6
UTP cable between the MRU-T-015 box and the LAN port on the laptop (or Deck
Unit).

3. Configuration Procedure
• Record the Serial Number of the MRU.
1. Do a visual inspection of the MRU. Check that the general condition of the MRU is
acceptable. Pay particular attention to the pins of the connector checking that all are
straight.
2. Record the MRW SW (software) version number on the configuration record GS03-
0040-02-CR and on the configuration results ‘GS03-0040-02-TR’.
3.1. Manual Configuration
If you have a configuration file for the MRU then proceed to section ‘3.2. Using a
configuration file’.
3.1.1. Sensor Geometry (Mount orientation)
The geometry must be set correctly for the style of the T/V-plate on which the MRU will
be mounted.

• Click on the Mounting Wizard button. In the window that appears select ‘Manual’
mode then click ‘Next’.
• In the next window do not enter any bracket offset angles, simply click on ‘Finish’.

• From the Configuration menu click Send to sensor unit. After a couple of seconds the
MRU will restart.
Note The MRU is now programed the with new IP address. Please update you PC
LAN address to 192.168.0.200.

• Position the MRU on a flat surface in the orientation in which it will be mounted (i.e.
vertically with ‘X’ arrow facing forwards or horizontal with ‘X’ arrow to Starboard.

3. Roll/incline the MRU gently to STBD and back again. Check and record that the
graph of Roll goes positive then returns to zero (approximately).

Check Pitch
• Disable the plot for roll and enable the plot for pitch by clicking in the appropriate
box.
5. Incline the Bow end of the MRU gently upwards (Pitch Up) and back again. Check
and record that the graph of Pitch goes positive then returns to zero (approximately).

6. Incline the STERN end of the MRU gently upwards (Pitch down) and back again.
Check and record that the graph of Pitch goes negative then returns to zero
(approximately).

7. Place the MRU onto a bench /table top and let the graph of data settle to zero. Now
gently remove from the table and lower to the ground, then bring back to the table.
Check and record that the graph goes positive then returns to zero. (Note that it is
normal for the graph to overshoot negatively as the sensor is raised back to the bench
but this should return to zero shortly afterwards).

8. Now move the MRU onto the floor. Let the data settle to zero (this may take a minute
or so). Now gently lift the MRU to waist height then lower back to the ground. Check
and record that the graph of Heave (PosMru_D) goes negative then returns to zero
approximately as per image below. (again it is normal for the Heave to overshoot this
time negatively as the sensor is lowered back to ground level but the graph should
return to zero shortly afterwards).
• Click the ‘Stop’ button, then exit from the MRC+ configuration software.
• Turn off the power to the MRU and disconnect from the interface cable.
• Attach a signed/dated tested sticker to the MRU.
