 What exactly is an information system? How does it work? What are its people,
organizational, and technology components?

Information system is formal, sociotechnical, organizational system designed to collect, process,


store and distribute information.

The three components of information system :

Organization: coordinates work through structural hierarchy for example : hiring a new
employee or fulfilling an order.

People: its required skilled people to build and maintain for example: people attitude is always
affecting the ability to use system productivity.

Technology: its all about the platforms that information system built on for example: computer
hardware and software, data management technology.

 Why are information systems so essential for running and managing a business today?

Information system is important to business because they process data from the business
input to generate information that is important for managing operations.
