    Lesson 3 (Activity B) Application

    1. Relate the need for Philippine English to societal and community needs. Do you think it
    is helpful for Filipinos to continue speaking and using Philippine English?

    We all know that communication is crucial in people's lives, thus studying several
    languages, particularly English, which is the universal language, is useful. Even though
    we are in the Philippines, many people speak English, and public transactions,
    paperwork, and labels are all written in English, so we must be able to communicate in
    that language. Furthermore, it aids us in all parts of our lives. First and foremost, in our
    schooling. The majority of the classes were taught in English. Second, in our professional
    lives. When we go to work, the majority of organizations interact and assign tasks in
    English. Third, if we want to do business, some of our clients only speak English, so we
    need learn to speak it in order to comprehend and meet their needs. Fourth, because
    English is widely spoken there, it increases our access to the internet and social media.
    Fifth, it allows us to communicate with people from other countries and learn about their
    cultures. We may learn certain lessons that will help us grow our personalities as a result
    of it. Finally, because everything in our current era is written in English, it allows us to
    quickly use and adapt modern technologies.

    2. Is Philippine English “wronging” English? Explain your answer.

    Yes, but it can be done purposefully or unintentionally. Lack of education


    contributed to certain inadvertent errors. Because some people are unable to attend school
    due to poverty, they are unable to communicate effectively in English. According to
    Deiparine (2021), a SWS poll estimates that over 4.4 million school-age Filipinos were
    not enrolled in school in late 2020. They have a tendency to apply it incorrectly in this
    situation. They will not see their error unless they are educated. However, some people
    do it on purpose. Some Filipinos find it amusing when they mix words incorrectly,
    especially in small enterprises where they are attempting to attract the attention of the
    public or consumers. Filipinos appreciate innovative ideas and favor products with
    unusual names; thus businesspeople take use of this opportunity to sell their products.
    Aside from that, Filipinos are recognized for having inventive brains when it comes to
    making others laugh. Indeed, according to Gallup's 41st Annual Global End of Year
    Survey, the Philippines is the world's third happiest country, according to Sanco (2006).
    Even in the darkest of circumstances, we find a way to laugh, and one of the ways is
    through misusing English.
