87TH B IRTHDAY OF CANOWINDRA CWA A Dinner Meeting was held at the Old Vic Inn 28 July to celebrate the 87th birthday of Canowindra CWA. At the well attended meeting, Christine Sampson read a brief inspiring history of the Branch, which was formed only two years after the commencement of CWA in Sydney. It was a great tribute to the many years of Service by Canowindra Members. Betty Jenkins the President made and decorated a beautiful Birthday cake. Unfortunately our Patron Flo Nash was ill in hospital and was unable to cut the cake, so Pat Pearce deputised and cut the 87th Birthday cake on Flos behalf. What a wonderful achieveme nt! Congratulations to all the past and present Canowindra CWA members, and may you have many more birthdays.

INLAND T OURISM AWARDS CELEBRATION Cabo nne Ma yor Bo b Do wling has congratulated the Age of Fishes Museum and Old Vic Inn at Canowindra after both were honoured at the NSW Inland Tourism Awards. The Age of Fishes Museum was announced as the winner of the Specialised Tourism Services category at Saturday nights awards while the Old Vic Inn was inducted into the Inland Tourism Hall of Fame. It is the second successive year the Age of Fishes Museum has taken out the category. This accolade means the Museum will now compete against the States best at the NSW Tourism Awards and be in the running to progress to the national awards. Hailed as the night of nights for the Inland NSW tourism industry, the event was a show stopper with a 40s, 50s, 60s film star theme. This is a great honour for the Age of Fishes Museum and a tribute to its hard-working manager Fiona Ferguson, the local committee and all the volunteers who devote their time to this wonderful tourism attraction, Cr Dowling said. 2011 LOCAL GOVERNMENT WEEK: MAYOR BOB D OWLING Local Government Week is being celebrated from 1-7 August 2011, gives us the chance to reflect that Councils are much more than rates, roads and rubbish. Local knowledge allows Councils to provide targeted and effective delivery of services that can build unique and vibrant local communities. Working With Our Communities is Cabonne Councils motto, but it is more than just a slogan. In Cabonne it is the main goal for which we strive. Community participation, collaboration and consultation are the cornerstones of our operations and I believe community involvement has been a key ingredient in major projects undertaken by Council.

Fiona was ecstatic to receive the award, "These types of awards are an enormous motivator for our volunteers and community. The Museum continues to exist because of you and your support, so thank you all!" The Mayor said Old Vic Inn owners Alison and Graeme Beasley and manager Jennifer Beasley should be extremely proud of being inducted into the Hall of Fame. This business is a three-time winner at the Inland Tourism Awards and it is a great honour for Cabonne Country to have one of our outstanding tourism operations recognised in this way, he said. The Old Vic Inn has won the last three successive Inland Tourism awards for their category; three State Tourism awards, one gold and two silver; and were finalists in the National Tourism awards in 2008. Graeme Beasley, owner of The Old Vic Inn credits his wife and daughter in the success of their business, "It takes a huge amount of work to achieve this level of recognition, and I'd like to acknowledge the efforts of Alison and Jenny over the years in the success of our business." CABONNE T HROUGH MY EYES COMPETITION Cabonne Council is inviting everyone in Cabonne Shire to participate in a special photographic competition to mark Local Government Week 2011. CabonneThrough My Eyes will be the theme of the competition. The competition will be open to everyone, including primary, high school students and seniors and we are looking for photographs that you think best depict Cabonne and its special significance to you. Prizes will be awarded to placegetters in the various sections. The winners will be judged in October and hopefully everyones photographs will be displayed in the Made in Cabonne Pavilion at the Australian National Field Days at Borenore on 18-20 October 2011.

One of Canowindra's largest businesses is growing, both in staff and size!
Ever since David & Christina purchased the business over 2 years ago and became the Kubota/Krone Dealership for this region, they have not only updated the workshop with new equipment but increased their staff immensely from 6 to 12 skilled tradesmen to keep up with the demands of a quality service for their customers. Two of their latest employees are Justin Allan, who Cluey started with them 4 months ago. After completing a very impressive trial, he is now undertaking a 3 year parts interpretation traineeship. Chris Knight is their newest employee. Chris is a qualified Light / Heavy & Machinery mechanic with 20 years in the trade. Robert Clulow recently obtained his Automotive Air Conditioning qualification for all vehicles from cars Chris Knight: Light / Heavy & Justin Allan: trainee to trucks & farm machinery. We re also able to Machinery mechanic Parts Interpreter offer pink & blue slips for cars and heavy vehicles. Lucerne Foods is in the process of a massive expansion of the workshop, adding 3 more new bays and a 15 tonne hoist for services on all heavy vehicles and farm machinery equipment. This expansion is also paving the way for future employment within this community as they are already planning to hire another apprentice. PYTHON PLAYAZ On Saturday the Pythons travelled to Condo to take on competition leaders. Canowindra team struggled with numbers for the day with only 16 players available, but the points not important for the Pythons who had already cemented fourth spot on the ladder, the coaches instructions were to go out there and just have a little fun. The Canowindra team matched it with the Rams for the first half of the game with Condo going in for three tries in the first half. The numbers situation got worst for the Pythons with Lloyd Jackson getting injured in the first ten minutes of the half and Alex Myers popped his shoulder out though stayed on until after half time. The Pythons did well to keep the score 26-3 at half time with the Condo boys having all the ball in the first half. After Alex wisely decided to leave the pitch the team was down to 14 and Condo took full advantage of the situation to score a few tries out wide. The Pythons were keen to have the last say with Clint Oborn charging his way over the try line. The Python's scrums dominated their counterparts with them pushing the scrum back 5 metres with ease at times. Points for the day went to Clint Oborn with 3 for another tireless game, Adam Nash got 2 and Ricey gave the rest of the team 1 point for never giving up in a tough situation. This weekend is the start of the Semi Finals the Pythons taking on Orange Ag College at home. This should be a tight game as the two times both teams met during the year the Pythons only just came away with the points. The Canowindra team is confident that with most of their players returning from injury, the boys should be able to put on a good show. A big crowd down at the Oval on Saturday would also help the boys get over the line. The game will kick off at the normal time of 3:15pm this Saturday at Tom Clyburn Oval.
