change.The magnitudeof the speedchangeresultingfroma sudden
changein loadis controlledby adjustingthe Gainpotentiometer. Actuator
Compensation compensates for the timethe actuatorand prime-mover
systemtaketo reactto signalsfromthe control.
The RAMPTIMEpotentiometer setsthe time requiredfor the primemoverto
acceleratefromidleto ratedspeed.
NOTE
I Droopand SpeedTrim settings changeat 10%ofthe existing referenceper
volt. The Auxiliary input causesa 3% speed changeper volt. The
input causes a 0.6660/o of reference speed per volt.
ReverseActing Controls
The reverse-acting2301ASpeedControland its actuatoraredesignedso that
zerovoltageto the actuatorcorresponds to maximumfuello the primemover.
The actuatorusuallyusedwith a reverse-acting controlhasa mechanical
governingmechanism included (seeFigure4-3).Thespeedsettingof this
mechanicalgovernor is slightlyhigherthanthespeedsettingof the2301A.
Shouldthe electronicsfail, the actuatorwilltry to go to maximumfuel butwill be
stoppedwhenit getsto the speedsettingof the mechanical governor, providing
continuedoperationof the primemover, althoughat a speedwhichis slightly
higherthanthe electroniccontrolspeedreference.

Troubleshooting
Thefollowingtroubleshooting guideis an aid in isolatingtroubleto the control
box,actuator,plantwiring,or elsewhere.The guideassumesthatthe system
wiring,solderingconnections,switchand relaycontacts,and inputand output
connectionsare conectand in goodworkingorder.Makethe checksin the order
indicated.
NOTE
The wrong voltage can damagethe control. When replacinga control, check
the power supply, battery, etc., for the correct voltageas indicatedon the
nametag on the control. Both high-voltageand low- voltage modelsof
2301Aspeedcontrolsareavailable.The low- voltagemodelwill be damaged
if connectedto a high-voltagesupply. The high-voltagemodelwill not
