*Conduct Q1 using python or MATLAB
Q1. The flow system used to test a centrifugal pump at a nominal speed of 1750 rpm is shown in figure
1. The liquid is water at 80 F, and the suction and discharge pipe diameters are 6 in. Data measured
during the test are given in the table 1. The motor is supplied at 460V, 3-phase, has a power factor of
0.875, and a constant efficiency of 80 percent.
Rate of flow (GPM) = [0 500 800 1000 1100 1200 1400 1500];
Suction pressure (psig) = -[3.7 4.2 4.7 5.7 6.2 6.7 7.7 8.4];
Discharge pressure(psig) = [53.3 48.3 42.3 34.3 31.3 27.3 15.3 7.3];
Motor Current (amp) = [18.0 26.2 31.0 36.0 37.0 37.3 39.0 41.5];
Pump Speed (RPM) = [1750 1745 1749 1750 1747 1752 1750 1753];
Calculate the net head delivered and the pump efficiency at a volume flow rate of 1000 gpm. Plot the
pump head, power, and efficiency as functions of volume flow rate.

Q2. Provided below velocity components determine the resulting pressure gradients when z is “up” and
gx = 0, gy = 0, and gz = -g. Use the below pressure gradient equation to find your solution. Evaluate the
mixed derivative to know the effect of velocity gradient in xy plane.
𝑢 = 𝑎(𝑥 2 − 𝑦 2 ) 𝑣 = −2𝑎𝑥𝑦 𝑤 = 0
