1. General

This Service Manual is written to provide the engineer with the on-the-spot maintenance and
servicing of TERUFUSION Infusion Pump (TE-135).
In the event that any complaints including failure and others are received from customers, in
principle, take actions in compliance with the following procedures.

(1) Before setting out to customers for emergency maintenance, carefully re-read the operating
instructions as well as this Manual and be thoroughly familiar with their content.
(2) Make sure that the customer uses and handles the apparatus strictly in compliance with the
operating instructions of the present apparatus.
(3) In the event that abnormal conditions result from erroneous handling, remove the causes,
and then, re-teach the customer how to correctly handle the apparatus and allow the
customer to be thoroughly familiar with the usage.
(4) Before undertaking emergency maintenance, reconfirm the content of customer complaints
and gain a correct understanding of abnormal conditions to start troubleshooting.
(5) In the event that the apparatus exhibits abnormal behavior even though the apparatus is
properly handled, be sure to carry out fault diagnosis strictly in compliance with the present
Manual.
(6) In the event that the apparatus is unable to be repaired by the use of this Manual, the
apparatus must be repaired at plant. State the trouble content and what have been done
for cures, and send back the apparatus to the plant.
(7) Disinfect as much as possible the replaced defective parts and others which came in contact
with patients’ bodily fluids, etc. and are returned to the plant. Hermetically seal and attach
a note of caution when any article is returned to the plant without disinfection.

(General precautions)
(1) Do not remove or insert connectors, printed circuit boards, and others with power supply
turned ON.
(2) First of all, visually check any sign of disconnection, short-circuiting, loose connectors, parts
breakage, and others, and at the same time, check for any abnormal noise and abnormal
smell (burning smell of resistors, etc.).
(3) Upon completion of inspection and repair, make sure all the switches are set to the specified
condition. Clean the apparatus and the vicinity, and report the results to the person in
charge.
(4) In the event that semiconductors, particularly, MOS-IC, are handled, take utmost care to
electrostatic discharge damage, etc.
* Ground human body, soldering iron, etc. via 1 MΩ resistance (this does not apply to
insulation type soldering irons but be sure to confirm insulation conditions.)
* When IC and printed circuit boards are transported, keep them in electrically conductive
containers or wrap them with sheets (aluminum foil, etc.).
(Avoid using plastics such as vinyl, styro-pads, etc.)
(5) In the event that printed circuit boards are replaced and trouble is corrected, return the
original boards and make sure whether or not the same trouble occurs. If the same trouble
does not occur, contact failure or others may be suspected. Further investigation is
required.

* In this Service Manual, the following SI units [the international System of Units, SI (System
International d’Unites in French)] are adopted.

5.2.2 Description on operation

5.2.2.1 Power supply unit
(1) Power input
There are following three kinds of power input supplied to the main body.
1. Power supplied from AC power supply (NX/CX:AC100V to 120 V, NW/CW:AC100V to 240 V,)
to main body via internal switching power supply.
2. Power supplied from external DC power supply (12 V-15 V).
3. Power supplied from built-in battery (9.6 V).
* Power is constantly supplied to power switch circuit/backup power supply circuit, etc.
* Avoid simultaneous use of AC power supply and external DC power supply.

5.2.2.2 Power ON/OFF circuit

By holding the power switch on the display panel depressed for about 1 second, electric charges
accumulated in the capacitor (Q30) is discharged from R86.R87, 1 pulse clock is allowed to enter IC20,
FET (Q30) is made conductive, and power is supplied to the control circuit.
In such event, R87 is simultaneously disconnected, and when the power supply is turned OFF,
power is discharged only from R86. Consequently, the circuit is configured to prevent the power supply
from being turned OFF unless the power switch is held depressed for a long time.
The circuit is designed to cut off power by main CPU signals when power supply is turned OFF or
when the apparatus is shut down. With CPU runaway, etc. taken into account, the circuit is configured
to turn off the switch in the hardware manner when the switch is held depressed for about 5 seconds.
By turning ON the power supply, main power supply +5V and reference power supply +4.5 V are
supplied to the circuit.

5.2.2.3 Backup power supply circuit

Because history data and timer time must be held with the power supply turned OFF, power is
normally supplied to SRAM and RTC.
As a backup battery, a lithium battery is mounted to the main board, but when AC/DC power
supply and the battery are connected, the circuit is configured to stop power supply from the lithium
battery.

* Maintenance parts are shipped from the factory with CN11 turned OFF. When CN11 is kept in
the ON state on the main board alone, the lithium battery lasts for about 8 years.

* Backup by the lithium battery is carried out only when connector CN3 is connected or CN11 is
short-circuited on the ON side. To retain the clock or history data when the main board is
detached, make sure CN11 is connected to the ON side and then, detach CN3.

* When the main board is replaced and mounted, turn ON CN11 and connect CN3, and then,
turn ON the power supply to start up CPU once.

5.2.2.4 Battery charge monitor circuit

The battery charge monitor circuit detects the battery residual power and charged rate by battery
monitor IC40.
Because the power must be constantly supplied to the memory inside IC40, the battery constantly
supplies power to the memory even when the main body power supply is turned OFF.
Note) Data stored in IC40 may be cleared by mounting or removal of a battery connector such as battery
replacement, etc. or voltage drop caused by non-use of battery for a long time (self-discharge). In such
event, inspection set forth in Section 6, Maintenance and Inspection is required in order to allow the
accurate display of battery residual power to function.
The battery charge/discharge current is detected by the battery charge/discharge current (IBAT)
converted from battery voltage by dividing resistors to R155 as well as R156 and R157 and voltage
generated in R154 (VBAT).

IC40 has a function to learn the capability of battery capacity, and when the battery capacity drops
due to battery deterioration, all three battery residual power lamps may not go on even when the battery
is fully charged. When battery connectors are mounted or detached for battery replacement, etc.,
inspection set forth in Section 6, Maintenance and Inspection is required for accurate residual power
indication, because it is indicated on the basis of “nominal capacity” of the battery.
CPU carries out the following operations by communication with IC40.
[1] Battery trouble detection: When following conditions are detected, CPU allows three
“Battery” lamps to blink simultaneously.
y Abnormal charging current
y Short-circuited cell
y Battery life
Buzzer sound: none
[2] Low battery detection: When residual battery capacity is detected to be about 15% or
less, CPU activates the low battery alarm.
Indication: “BATTERY” blinks.
Buzzer sound: Changes from intermittent sound to continuous
sound in about 10 minutes.
[3] Shutdown detection: When voltage per one battery is detected to be not more than 1.05
V (1.00-1.10 V), CPU activates the shutdown alarm.
Indication: [S-d] goes on.
Buzzer sound: After the buzzer continues sounding for 3 minutes
at maximum, CPU shuts down the infusion pump.

5.2.2.5 Battery charging circuit

The built-in battery is constantly charged while AC power supply or external DC power supply is
turned ON and the charging current is changed over in two stages. A low-current circuit configuration is
adopted, in which about 150 mA charging current from the point that external power supply is connected
until battery residual power exceeds 60% and thereafter about 60 mA is allowed to flow. This has been
able to shorten charging time to 8 hours. In addition, for safety measures when battery monitor IC fails
or battery life is reached, charging is forcibly changed over to 60mA charging when the battery is not
charged 60% even after 8 hours pass. For the battery, 1.2 V × 8 (1000 mAh) heat-resistant batteries
are used.

5.2.2.7 Motor driving circuit

(1) Power supply unit
For a pump power source, a stepping motor is used.
The motor drive current is varied depending on flow-rate settings (constant current drive) and the
voltage that corresponds to the flow rate is outputted from the main CPU. This voltage is used as a
reference voltage of motor drive IC and controls the current supplied to the motor. To the motor drive
section, a circuit to stop supplying motor power at an event of any runaway error is added.

(2) Pulse output section

By inputting the pulse output section that determines motor rotation from main CPU to pulse
generating IC, the motor drive pulse is produced. The motor drive pulse is entered from pulse
generating IC to motor drive IC.
The drive pulse can be stopped by stopping pulses to pulse generating IC and entering a reset
signal.

5.2.2.8 Nurse-call output circuit (TE-135C only)

For the nurse-call output terminal, there are two systems of output which are normally open and
normally closed.
To control nurse call relays, there are 3 signal lines, which are turned ON or OFF by the main CPU
under the normal conditions.
When any alarm is generated, the nurse call output terminal is brought to short-circuited (or open)
conditions for about 5 seconds. When any error occurs, relays are kept activated and the nurse call
output terminals go into a short-circuited (or open) condition.

* The relay contact capacity is 1 A at DC12 V. Take utmost care to prevent relays from
exceeding the capacity when they are connected to any external loads.

5.2.2.9 Buzzer circuit

In the buzzer circuit, buzzer ON/OFF, sound volume, and frequency are set by two control signals
from the main CPU. The audible alarm is activated only when the two control signals are in the output
condition.
The sound volume is adjusted by varying the buzzer voltage in accordance with the duty ratio of
“H” level of volume control clock, which is a PWM signal from the main CPU. The volume control clock
is generated at the PWM timer incorporated in the CPU and the duty ratio is varied in three stages of the
buzzer volume setting.
A musical interval is changed by varying the output frequency from the main CPU.

(3) Motor unit (see Section 9, Parts List)
Motor rotations are transmitted to a pulley (large) and cam via a pulley (small) and timing
belt mounted to a motor shaft, and drive fingers.
(4) Pump unit (see Section 9, Parts List)
The pump unit comprises fingers for clamping the tube and delivering solution, pump body
to hold the fingers, and others, and feeds solution in the tube by pressing a tube of a
specified volume located between fingers at a specified rate.
(5) Door body unit (see Section 9, Parts List)
The door body unit comprises a buffer plate, occlusion plate, clamp stand, and others, and
during driving, the buffer plate holds and occludes a tube with the pump unit to feed the
chemical solution inside the tube.
(6) Occlusion unit (see Section 9, Parts List)
The occluded condition of the downstream tube of drive unit is detected by converting the
displacement of tube outside diameter to changes of magnetic field.

5.3.2.2 Tubing clamp module

When the door is opened, the tubing clamp module automatically clamps the tube to prevent free
flow. When the door is closed, the tubing clamp module unclamps the tube to feed the solution.

5.3.2.3 Rotation detection module

The rotation sensor board is fixed to the infusion pump chassis, optically detects cam rotation via
the encoder board, monitors the rotating speed of the drive unit and detects high-speed rotation timing.

5.3.2.4 Door open detection module

The door sensor board is fixed between the main body chassis and the main body cover, detects
changes of the magnetic field between the Hall effect IC mounted to the board and magnet embedded in
a crescent hook, and detects door opening and closing.

by symptoms.

8.2.1 Alarms

Alarms Description
End of infusion y Alarm is activated when volume delivered exceeds delivery-limit.
Alarm is automatically deactivated when delivery-limit exceeds volume delivered.
Air-in-line alarm y Alarm is activated when air bubble that passes the sensor is detected by air-in-line sensor.
Occlusion alarm y Alarm is activated when increase of inner tube pressure on the downstream side of pump
is detected when solution is being delivered by “START” or “Quick Delivery.”
Door alarm y Opening or closure of door is detected by the door sensor, and alarm is activated when the
door is held open.
Flow error alarm(*) y Alarm is activated when flow error (free-flow, empty container) is detected by the drip
Empty container alarm(*) sensor.
y The condition in which trickling is detected while the pump is stopped is judged as
“free-flow.”
y The condition in which no flow of solution drops is detected during start is judged as
“empty container.”
y Following conditions are exhibited when alarm is activated.
