Time Allotment: 60 minutes
I. Objectives

At the end of the session, the learners are expected to:


a. correctly identify verbs that agree with the subject of the sentence through drills and a 5-item
quiz;
b. formulate one subject-verb agreement rule out from the given five samples of sentences
through a breakout room activity; and
c. express thoroughly the importance of subject-verb agreement in relation to our daily lives
through a one-sentence summary using Padlet.

II. Enduring Understanding


In order to make a subject and a verb agree with each other, one must make sure that both are singular
or that both are plural.
For an effective communicator and writer of the English language, one has to harmonize the subject
with the verb.

VI. Teaching- Learning Activities


a. Opening Prayer (Allotted time: 2 minutes)
b. Preliminaries (Allotted time: 3 minutes)
 The teacher will remind the learners of the Online guidelines
 The teacher will ask the learners of the current feeling/condition through a Mood Check
activity.
 The teacher will present his learning targets, afterwards he will elicit learners’ target.

c. Motivation (Allotted time: 5 minutes)


- What’s This Filipino Word?
The teacher will present to the class three Filipino words with incomplete letters. The
students will complete this word.

1. K_K_Y (KIKAY) a girl or woman interested in beauty products and fashion


2. S_K_ (SUKI) a buyer or seller involved in an arrangement whereby a customer
regularly purchases products or services from the same provider in exchange for
favorable treatment.
3. B__N (BAON) refers to money, food, or other provisions taken to school, work, or to
a journey
(Current Issue Integration: Filipino words added in the English Oxford Dictionary)

- The above Filipino words are added to the Oxford English Dictionary since last year. At
least 40 Filipino words are already part of the said dictionary.
- Other words include bongga, kilig, kuya, pasalubong, pulutan, kuya, holdupper.

- Why is it vital to use our language?


- What was your first reaction after knowing that some Filipino words are added to the
Oxford English Dictionary? Why?
- Why is it vital to use our own language primarily?
- When do you say that a person is an effective English communicator?
- Possible answers for this question are: When a person is educated or when a person is
studying good grammar and oral communication skills.

d. Pre-Assessment (Allotted time: 5 minutes)


- SUBJECT-VERB ANALYSIS
A.Y. 2022-2023

The teacher will present to the class sentences with erroneous verbs through Polling. The
learners will choose YES/NO.
1. That kilig moment make their relationship burning.
2. Bongga attires makes them look dashing and stunning.
3. Three kuyas completes the basketball team.

- Where is the verb for sentences 1, 2,3? What should be the correct form of each verb?
Why?
- What is it important to harmonize the verb with its subject in a sentence?
- In an orchestra, how can each musician contribute to the best rendition of the group?

e. Presentation of the lesson (Allotted time: 30 minutes)


- The teacher will let the learners observe a sentence where the verb agrees with its subject.
This sentence is 1.) Mother bakes a cake.
- The giving of the general rule will follow. The learners will describe the number of
subject in each sentence, then will connect it to the structure of the verb. The teacher will
present to the class the general rule of subject-verb agreement: A singular subject takes a
singular verb, while a plural subject takes a plural verb.

- Group Presentation
The teacher will divide the class into four groups, with their leader, asst. leader, secretary,
and reporter.

- Each group will be given a sentence that contains a subject and a verb. They will
formulate a rule/rules to be based on the sentence that is given to them. These are the
rules in subject-verb agreement.

Group 1- Rule 1: The list of road signs is helpful for motorists.


Group 2- Rule 2: Either the teacher or Paul knows the correct answer.
Group 3- Rule 3: The falling rocks and the slippery road are to be taken seriously.
Group 4- Rule 4: The bicycle, including all its parts, is for sale.

- After 10 minutes, one representative per group will share the group’s formulated subject-
verb agreement rule. The presentation will be based on the following criteria: accuracy
of output 15 pts., clarity of report 15 pts. TOTAL= 30 pts.
- After each presentation of the rule provided by the students, the teacher will then present
the exact rule

f. Drills (Allotted time: 5 minutes)


- The learners will answer subject-verb agreement examples through the chatbox.
1. The man, with his siblings, (attends, attend) a ceremony.
2. Neither Jose nor his classmates (cuts, cut) class.
3. She (sings, sing) beautifully.

Choose the correct verb in each sentence through Quizizz.

g. Closure (Allotted time: 4 minutes)


Completion of the Missing Words
- Recap of the lesson: The learners will complete the general rule of the subject-verb
agreement.
