A Detailed Lesson Plan in Teaching Linear and Nonlinear Text

to Grade 10 students

B. Lesson Proper

Now, those pictures that I showed to you has


something to do in our lesson today.

Let us define first what is Linear text. ( student will read the definition)
Who would like to read? Linear text refers to traditional text that needs
to be read from beginning to the end. Here, the
reader makes sense of the text according to the
grammatical and syntactic arrangement of the
words.
From the definition of linear text —it needs to be
read from beginning to end and the author of the text
decides the order of the text, or its reading path. It is
generally those texts printed on paper.

What are the examples of Linear text?


The examples are Essay, Letter, Poem, and novels.
An essay is a short formal piece of writing dealing
with a single subject.

A letter is a written, typed, or printed


communication, especially one sent in an envelope
by mail or messenger.

Can you give me an example of a letter?


Ma'am the examples are Excuse letter, application
letter, love letter, resignation letter, etc.

A poem is a piece of writing that partakes of the


nature of both speech and song that is nearly always
rhythmical, usually metaphorical.

How about Nonlinear Texts? Who would like to read
Non-linear Text refers to texts that do not need to
loud and clear?

Graphic Organizer it is used to express knowledge,

them.
Table it summarizes and organizes information
maybe in words or using rows and columns.
Line Graph it used to show patterns or trends.
Bar Graph is used to show comparisons between
variables.
Timeline is used to show a sequence of events.
Flowchart shows sequence of events from start to
finish to document a process.
Pie Charts show visual representations of
information on parts or segments as a proportion,
percentage or fraction of the whole.

Now we are going to learn how to transcode linear


and nonlinear text and vice versa.
Transcoding linear to nonlinear texts and vice versa
is a skill that one has to familiar with. Since it can be
used in our everyday life.

To transcode means to transform something from


one form to another.

music, 15% listen to country music, 13% listen to
hip hop, and 10% listen to classical music.

going to create a table or a graph on the number of hours that you spend on the top five applications
on your phone on a daily basis. Write your conclusion in 4-5 sentences.

The picture above show how many hours I spent these applications in my daily basis. Based from
the picture I spent overall 3 hours and 56 mins and WPS Office is my top 1 application that I used
everyday.
