6. Rodrigo.
7. Hmmm… Are you up for another episode of amazing science lesson? Don’t you worry coz I’m
8. here to guide throughout the discussion. So I want you to have your self-learning module with
9. you as well as your pen and notebook for a hashtag ScienceMazing ( OVERLAY #ScieMazing)

4. TEACHER: before we get started, let me ask you on what was your previous lesson last time.
5. Can you still remember? Right! It was all about changes in properties of materials or the
9. Well, change is inevitable. We can see it everywhere because change is the only constant in
10. this world. Some of it may be good for the environment, but some were not. Now, how well do
11. you know about the useful or harmful effect of the changes in materials to the
12. environment?
13. Then let’s try to find out by answering the following questions.

c. drink contaminated water
d. take medicine
2. What is your answer? Correct! Its letter A. how about number 4?
3. 4. What will happen if waste materials are not properly disposed?
a. it can be a source of humus
b. it can help wastes to decay faster
c. it allows free flow of rainwater run off
d. it can cause air, land, and water pollution
4. what would be the correct answer? That’s right! It would be letter D.
5. 5. What should be done to non-biodegradable waste materials in order to prevent or minimize
pollution?
a. Bury them.
b. Burn them.
c. Reuse or recycle them.
d. Throw them in the river.
6. Times up! The correct answer is letter C. do you have the same answer with me? Wow great!

9. TEACHER: To better understand our lesson for today, let’s have first an activity.
10. Do you like activity? I’m sure you do! You can find this on your module on page 4.
11. VO. Arrange the scrambled letters to get the correct word. Clues were provided for you.
12. You have 5 seconds to answer item.
13. OVERLAY TEXT FROM MODULE P.4
14. Number 1. (INSERT JUMBLED LETTERS) Clue: having value or benefit
15. What is the correct word for number 1? That’s right! The correct word is USEFUL
16. Next, Clue: causing damage or injury. Can you guess the hidden word? (INSERT TIMER) times
17. up, what do you think is the hidden word? That’s right, it is indeed HARMFUL How about the
18. next word.
19. Clue: it is the surrounding where people, animals, and plants live. Sounds familiar to you?
20. Times up. What is the hidden word? The correct word is ENVIRONMENT. You are a smart kid!
21. How about this one.

1. The pictures show that trees are being cut.
2. Is the change useful or harmful?
3. The answer is harmful.
4. What made it harmful?
5. Cutting down trees takes away the oxygen, animals become homeless, and it loosens the
ground which mostly causes landslides. Great job kids!

9. TEACHER: The Earth is a beautiful place where humans are provided with everything that they
could use in order to survive. They are surrounded with materials that they can utilize in order
to supply their basic needs. But some changes in the materials may be useful to the
environment, while others are harmful.
10. Example of changes in the materials that are useful to the environment are:
11. using animal wool in making a woven cloth or fabric
12. turning plastic into different cases
13. cutting fabric to be made into a pillow case
14. Example of changes in the materials that are harmful to the environment are:
15. burning of plastic materials
16. dumping garbage on land
17. cutting down trees
18. throwing dead animals into the sewage or river
19. When the material (land/soil) is dumped with garbage of any kind such as empty bottles,
plastics,
20. toxic wastes, chemical from factories and other establishment, the land becomes polluted.
21. Polluted land serves as breeding places for flies, cockroaches, and rats. These pests carry
germs
22. that cause diseases that is hazardous to one’s health. Growing plants is not also possible in
23. polluted land.
24. VO: When the material (water in the river) is dumped with garbage of any kind such as empty
25. bottles, plastic waste materials or even dead animals from houses, and other industrial and
26. chemical wastes from factories, the river becomes polluted. If we drink water contaminated with
27. germs, we are likely to get sick. Polluted water also kills living organism such as fish and water
28. plants.

32. wastes? Hmmm… please don’t do that!

1. VO: Many items in household garbage when burned release dangerous toxic chemicals. This
2. pose health risk especially for people particularly those with asthma and other heart and lung
3. ailments. Because the smoke is close to the ground, it can also settle on fruits, vegetables and
4. other vegetation that becomes dangerous to eat for humans and wildlife.
5. TEACHER: The smoke and toxins that enter the air also contribute to the greenhouse effect
and
6. global warming. To prevent/minimize the effect of burning of garbage wastes, Waste
Segregation
7. must be observed and the 5R’s should be practiced. Okay? Cool!
