    Assessment Title Deck Maintenance


    • De-rust and prepare a steel surface for painting
    Assessment Outcome • Apply a paint to a cleaned steel surface safely
    • Use a manual grease gun in lubricating deck equipment

    Assessment Area Seamanship Laboratory Room


    • Personal protective equipment – overalls, safety helmet, safety shoes,
    gloves, safety googles
    • Steel plate
    • Paint with thinner
    • Paint applicator – Brush, paint roller
    Equipment and • Cleaning tools –Rags, receptacle
    Materials Needed • Chipping hammer
    • Hand scrapper (angular)
    • Long handle scrapper
    • Manual grease gun
    • Grease
    • Equipment for applying grease
    Equipment ratio • 1:2
    You are going to carry out deck maintenance in de-rusting of steel surface,
    Assessment Task applying paint, and greasing.
