Soft g sounds like the letter j.

REMEMBER: When g is followed by e, i, or yit OFTEN has a soft soundbut not always!!

Soft g sounds like the letter j.

REMEMBER: When g is followed by e, i, or yit OFTEN says its soft soundbut not always! When you hear the j sound in the middle or end of a word, it is often spelled with g followed by e, i, or y.

CHALLENGE: Digging and jogger do not fit the rulethese words are made of base words with word endings (-ing, -ed, -er) added to them. The word endings do not change the original hard g sound, also reinforced by the doubling of the g. Other examples might include: hugged, logger, and swinging.
