God Has Remembered Me

Exodus 3:1-9
Genesis 7: 1-24 and 8: 1-16

The phrase “God remembered” appears in the Bible numerous times. But what does it actually
mean? Does noting that God remembered something also imply God forgets things — and how
can that be since God is perfect?

A. WHAT DOES ‘REMEMBER’ MEAN?

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “remember” as to “bring to mind or think of again,” or to
“retain in the memory.” It comes from the Latin re-memorari, which combines re- (again) and
memorari (be mindful of). It doesn’t necessarily imply one has forgotten the thing one is
mindful of, but rather that it is on one’s mind. So, for God to “remember” means for God
to have it on God’s mind.

B. PEOPLE THAT GOD REMEMBERED IN THE BIBLE

God remembered his covenant
 Exodus 2:24: God heard the groaning of His people, Israel, who were slaves in Egypt,
and “He remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob,” setting
them free through Moses.
God also Remembered the following people because of the covenant he had with them;
 Joseph: Genesis 41:9-15
 David: Psalm 132: 1-5
 Rachel: Genesis 30:22
 Sarah: Genesis 21:1
 Hannah: 1 Sam 1:9
 Job: Job 42:10
 Mordecai: Esther 6: 1-14
 Daniel: Daniel14: 38-42
 Elizabeth: Luke 1: 36-49

C. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN GOD REMEMBERS YOU

1. When God remembers you, you’ll have unbelievable accelerated promotion. - Joseph,
(Genesis 40, Genesis 41:3)
2. When God remembers you, every symbol of shame is translated and transformed to
glory - Mephibosheth (2 Samuel 9:1, 2 Samuel 4:4, 2 Kings 9):
3. When God remembers you, fruitfulness replaces barrenness, Sorrows turns to Joy -
Hannah and Rachel, (Genesis 30:22, 1 Samuel 1:19):
4. When God remembers you, it gives you total victory over your enemies - Mordecai
(Psalm 91:15, Esther 6:1)
5. When God remembers you, you enter into your season of deliverance, freedom and
breakthrough - Israelites (Exodus 2:23-25):
6. When God remembers you, all your unknown and unmet needs are met, you enter into
your season of reward - Cornelius (Acts 10:4,31):
D. WHEN GOD “REMEMBERS,” SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY ALWAYS HAPPENS!

SAMSON
Samson devalued his gifting from God. He dismissed God’s command to maintain
holiness and an environment in which the Holy Spirit would “touch” him. Because he
compromised with the snares of the enemy, Samson was taken prisoner, made blind, and
placed in a position of providing entertainment to the Philistines. BUT, in an act of God’s
Grace, his hair grew back! Samson cried out for God to “Remember me,” and God did!

Judges 16:28-30 (KJV) “And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember
me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once
avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes. And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon
which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the
other with his left. And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with
all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the
dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life” (Emphasis
Added).

Sampson woes (problems) was a product of disobedience as against Noah that was obedient
all the way but God never forgot his covenant.

SARAH – in Genesis 21:1 And God visited Sarah as He said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as
he had spoken. Despite that she experienced delay for twenty-five years, despite she was old
and had passed the age of giving birth (menopause had set in), God remembered her and her
story changed. When God remembers you, the traumatic experience will expire. Sarah excitedly
said God had me laugh. Sarah had a son called Isaac. When God remembers you, you will
have evidence, visible, miracle or an undeniable proof.

RACHEL – Rachel was Jacob’s wife. She wept and lamented, arising from childlessness. But
when God remembered her in Genesis 30:22 – And God hearkened to her and opened her
womb and she bare Joseph. When God remembers you, obstacles will be rolled away and
barriers will be broken. Rachel thought all hope was lost, but when God showed up, the story
changed for the better.

HANNAH
Hannah, the mother of one of the most influential, impactful prophets and priests in
Israel (Samuel), was childless. She was mocked by her husband’s second wife, and she was
disdained by many of the women in Israel. She carried her sorrow as long as she could. So,
she went to Shiloh with her husband to make the annual sacrifice to the Lord, but she stayed by
the temple to cry out to God. Her praying was so intense that Eli the priest thought she was
drunk because of her seemingly speaking in a drunken manner. She cried out for God to
“Remember me!”

JOB
Many are familiar with the story and trials of Job. God referred to Job as a “perfect” man…

Job 1:1 (KJV)“There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man
was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil” (Emphasis Added).

Job did not have to wait until he died and was resurrected before God “Remembered!”
Job 42:10 (KJV) “And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his
friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before” (Emphasis Added).

E. WHEN GOD REMEMBERS HE ACTS (NOAH)

The hope is in knowing that God will act again! And in the meantime, your job is to go on in
faithful obedience to what he has already shown you — however long ago that may have been.
When God remembers he comes to a point of action on our behalf.

Alone on the Deep

Reflecting on that experience, I think I must have some appreciation for Noah’s feelings after he
had been drifting on the endless world-sea for almost a year, following the onslaught of the
Flood. He had been a man of faith, “blameless among the people of his time” (Genesis 6:9). But
he was human too, and the sea is a very lonely place. Imagine drifting in a large ship — not
merely overnight, but night after night, month after month, for a year — with nothing in sight.
During those months, faith or no faith, Noah must have begun to wonder whether God had
forgotten him, his family and the animals as they floated like insignificant bits of refuse on the
great tide.

God remembered Noah with Action:

God remembered Noah in three ways.
1. First, he began to remove the water and thus the aftermath of his great judgment upon
the unbelieving world. The story says, “He [that is, God] sent a wind over the earth and
the waters receded... Refer (See Genesis 1:2 “the Spirit of God was hovering over
the waters”).
The water receded steadily from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the water
had gone down, and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the
mountains of Ararat” (Genesis 8:1,2,4).

As a result of the Flood, the earth had returned to a form much like that described in
Genesis one.
 It was dark, due to the storm clouds that brought the rain. It was covered with water.
 There was no life, except (in this case) for the tiny cargo encompassed in the ark.
But then the Spirit of God, the divine wind, began to blow across the surface of the
waters. The waters were separated from the dry land.
 The clouds began to dissipate.
 The sun appeared.
 Eventually, the grass, plants, and trees began to renew themselves, and the animals
and people aboard the ark were sent forth into the new world before them.

******When God remembers everything is restored to new

2. The second way God remembered Noah was by giving him a sign. Genesis 8:7-12
In a manner very similar to this, God also gives signs to His suffering people. Sometime
its like a prophecy of assurance
We see this sign in the story of the sending out and return of the dove. A raven was dispatched,
but it just kept flying around. Next Noah sent out a dove. The first time it flew out and returned,
but the second time it returned with a freshly plucked olive leaf in its beak. When Noah saw this
he knew that the waters had receded, that the earth was renewing itself and that the judgment
was past. The sign of a dove carrying an olive branch was so moving that the symbol is used as
a token of peace even today.

3. The third way God remembered Noah was by words. He spoke to him again,
saying,
“Come out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives. Bring out every kind of
living creature that is with you — the birds, the animals, and all the creatures that move along
the ground — so they can multiply on the earth and be fruitful and increase in number upon it”
(verses 16, 17).

As I read the account, I sense that God had not spoken to Noah in a direct way for over a
year, for the last time we are told God spoke was in chapter seven: “Go into the ark, you
and your whole family” (verse 1).
Noah was in the ark a year and ten days. So for all that time he apparently received no new
word from God. This must have added greatly to his sense of loneliness. “Why doesn’t God
speak to me?” he must have asked. But at last God did speak, and Noah knew he had been
remembered.

NOAH REMEMBERED GOD

He remembered God. He showed it by coming out of the ark, building an altar and then
sacrificing some of all the clean animals and clean birds as sin offerings — thus coming to
God once again as a sinner and in the way appointed.

We forget because it is not our nature to remember God or God’s goodness — and at no
time more readily than immediately after we have been delivered from some distressing
situation. The classic story here is the Lord’s healing of the lepers He encountered on the way
to Jerusalem as He walked along the border between Samaria and Galilee, Luke 17:11-19.
There were ten of them, a little while later one leper came back and thanked Jesus profusely.
He was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?
Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” (Luke 17:11-
19).

Let me challenge you thus to remember God. The Bible says, “Remember your Creator in the
days of your youth” (Ecclesiastes 12:1). We have a tendency to forget God in our youth,
thinking that obedience to God and worship of God can be put off. That is great folly. The Bible
says, “Remember God now.”

The Bible also says, “Remember the Lord in a distant land” (Jeremiah 51:50). Jeremiah
writes this, thinking about the deportation of his people to Babylon after the conquest of
Jerusalem. His point is that while they were there, cut off from their roots, surrounded by a
pagan culture and enticed by others’ sins, the people would tend to forget God.

Finally, we may think of Jonah, who declared while in the belly of the great fish, “When my life
was ebbing away, I remembered you, Lord, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy
temple” (Jonah 2:7). For all of us life is ebbing away in some sense. For many it is almost
gone. Now is the time to remember, to hang on, to worship God to the end. From youth to old
age, in sickness and in health, at home or away from home — remember God. And the God
Who remembers will be your joy and comfort both now and in the life to come.
F. GOD PLANS OUT EVERYTHING: Joseph’s Journey to the Throne
God uses an Israelite, and not any old Israelite, but a forsaken, sold into slavery, prisoner to
confound all of the great ones of the world, all the magicians, all the wise men, all the Ph.D.’s,
all the astrologers. Even mighty Pharaoh is putty in the Lord’s hands. Pharaoh is not in control
of this story, God is.

Ephesians 1:11 tells us that God works all things after the counsel of His will. This isn’t really a
sermon about human responsibility and divine sovereignty except to say at the beginning that
yes, the Bible teaches both of those things. God ordains whatsoever comes to pass

 God was the one who decreed it,

 God was the one who fixed it,
 now God is the one who gives to Joseph the ability to interpret the dreams.

If you remember from Genesis chapter 39, Joseph was a slave for this Egyptian master
Potiphar and the Lord was with him and so Joseph was successful in whatever he did.
So much so that Potiphar put him in charge of his entire house, things were going very
well for Joseph until Potiphar’s wife entered the picture.

chapter 39, bringing us to chapter 40. but by the time we get into chapter 40, Joseph has
been in slavery or prison for 10 years.

in chapter 40, Joseph meets, two men, two new men in prison, Pharaoh’s cupbearer and
Pharaoh’s baker. Each of these men have a dream and Joseph interprets.
You see that at the end of chapter 40, verse 23 – “Yet the chief cupbearer did not
remember joseph but forgot him.”

In chapter 41. Two more years pass by and now Pharaoh has a dream. Pharaoh can’t
figure out what’s happening. He sends for his magicians, his wise men in the kingdom. No one
can interpret his dreams and then, light bulb, something goes off, ahh, the cupbearer
remembers. So Pharaoh sends for Joseph – “Bring him here to interpret my dream

look at the last verse in chapter 41 – “Moreover, all the earth came to Egypt to Joseph to
buy grain, because the famine was severe over all the earth.”

You may remember in chapter 37, Joseph’s initial two dreams about these sheaves
bowing down to him. Well, soon it will be his family, here it’s Egypt and the whole world
is coming to Joseph, the man who was thrown into a pit to die, sold into slavery, betrayed by
his master’s wife, forgotten in prison, and now second-in-command in all of Egypt with the whole
world bowing before his feet.

The recurring theme is how God reveals something and how what God reveals is firmly
fixed according to His plan.
Just look a few verses. Look at chapter 40, verse 8: “Joseph said to them, “Do not
interpretations belong to God? ”” So Joseph’s under no illusion that this is him and he has a
reason to be proud about this. No, this entirely comes from God. God has shown Pharaoh what
He is about to do.

Look at chapter 41, verse 25: “Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dreams of Pharaoh are one;
God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do. ””

Down at verse 28: “It is as I told Pharaoh; God has shown to Pharaoh what he is about to do.”

The thing was absolutely fixed. Verse 32: This “means that the thing is fixed by God, and God
will surely bring it about.”

Interesting that verse 32 says “the doubling of Pharaoh’s dream reinforces that the thing is
fixed.”

G. HOW DO YOU PROVOKE THE REMEMBRANCE OF GOD?

1. You must have positive attitude (Philippians 2:5, Romans 8:18).
2. When you shift your attention from man to God (Hebrews 12:3, Proverbs 3:5-6).
3. You must engage the efficacy of prayer and supplication, spicing it up with faith (James
5:16b).
4. You must sacrifice generously in all that you do (Psalm 41:1, Proverb 19:17).
5. You must live Holy, and have a constant fellowship with God (Genesis 8:1).

H. CONCLUSION
God remembers the people that are Holy and have fellowship with Him.
The most important way to provoke God’s remembrance is through Holiness.

Prophetic Conclusion,
1. I prophetically declare that He who remembered Abraham, Isaac, and Hagar even in the
wilderness, will remember to bless you, heal you, prosper you, favour you, connect you,
help you, touch your life and business, etc.
2. Before the end of this year, He will remember to divinely settle you and your household.
What you are not permitted to remember are the former things in your life, because God
promised to do a new thing. But rather, He said put me in remembrance and concerning
my work command me.
3. He remembered to bring King Jehoiachim of Judah out of captivity in Babylon after thirty-
seven years in the twelfth month. This month, He will bring you out of all your troubles in
Jesus’ name.

I. PRAYER OF SALVATION
Almighty God, I come into your presence, saying thank you, today O Lord, I confess my sins
and I surrender my life to you, have your way in my life, help me to live a Holy life, thank you for
giving me a new beginning, my life shall be unto you. In Jesus name, Amen!
