The Big Issue

Have you ever heard of The Big Issue? ___________. Thirty years on, it is read by over
400,000 people in the UK. There are many different ways of helping homeless people. Some
people give them food or money. Many clever gadgets or items have been invented to help
them, too. But Roddick and Bird believed that the best way of solving homelessness was to
help homeless people to help themselves.
More than 80,000 copies of The Big Issue are sold every week. 2___________. The poor or
homeless people who sell the magazine are running their own small businesses.

The Big Issue Foundation connects homeless people with charities and services that can
