Use CUSUM technique to develop a table and to calculate energy savings for 8 months
period. For calculating total energy saving, average production can be taken as 6,000 MT
per month. Refer to field data given in the table below.
2. Consider two projects A & B with initial investment of Rs. 80000. The project life is 5 years
in each case. The savings in each of the five years for both the projects is shown in the
table below.
Project A Project B
Capital Cost (Rs.) 80000 80000
Year Cash Flows (Rs.) Cash Flows (Rs.)
1 10000 50000
2 20000 40000
3 30000 30000
4 40000 20000
5 50000 10000
Assume discount rate of 20%. Find out preferrable project out of the two.

4. What will be the capacity of 415V, 50 kVAr rated power factor capacitor bank if it was
connected to a supply voltage of 430 V.
5. Calculate the annual energy savings from replacing an existing standard motor with
premium efficiency motor versus repairing a standard efficiency. The data given are motor
7.5HP; working hours 3000Hrs; ⴄstandard= 87.5%; ⴄpremium= 93.5%; Loading=70%.
6. Industrial workshop has 200Nos. of 100W incandescent lamps. It has been decided to
replace the lamps by 1x 18w CFL. Check the feasibility of this replacement on the economic
criteria. No. operating hours for lighting was 6000 hrs/ yr. Assume cost of energy Rs.
8/unit and CFL cost is Rs. 100/unit.

7. What will be the energy cost savings of a 50HP motor if it operates at 91% efficiency
compared to operating at 86% efficiency? Consider 3000Hrs of operation and tariff rate of
Rs.5/kWh
8. A 3-Phase, 50 kW rated Induction motor drawing 44 kW in a manufacturing industry has a
power factor of 0.75 lagging. What size of capacitor in kVAr in each phase is required to
improve the operating power factor to 0.96? Calculate the reduction in current, kVA and
kW respectively, due to capacitor installation at operating voltage of 415 V?
