Good day everyone ! Today you are going to learn about the meaning of
the words: Tense and Present Tense of the Verb To begin with, let us read the
short conversation in Plug In on page 70.
What tense does each underlined verb express?
What’s New
The Present Tense of the Verb is used to indicate an action that is done
habitually or repeatedly. It also expresses a general truth or fact.

d. Father reads newspaper every morning. - When does father read newspaper?
a. Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius. – What is the boiling point of water?
b. The Sun rises in the east. - Where does the sun rise?
c. The human body contains 126 bones. – How many bones are ther in the
human body?
For practice have the pupils do the Buddy System on page 70 wherein
They will identify whether each statement expresses general truth or
habitual action.

Let’s Begin
Good day! Today we will continue to learn about Using the Simple
Present Tense of Verbs. To begin with, let us read and study the short dialogue
below.
Felicity : What are your hobbies?
Denise : I collect stamps.
Edna : My brother and I play computer games on weekends.
Gina : My sister and I watch movies every week.
Kelly : My sister reads novels , while I read fashion magazines at night.

Patricia:Mother teaches me how to bake different cakes every Saturday.
Note: The underlined words are in their Simple Present Tense that
shows us the subject-verb agreement.
What’s New
Subject –Verb Agreement means that the subject
used in sentences should always agree with the verb.
It means further that the - s or - es form of the
verb is used when the subject is singular. The
Pronouns : He, She and It uses the –s /-es form of the
verb.
Examples : a. He comes from China.
The base form or the original verb is used when the subject is plural.
The Pronouns : I, We, You and They use the base form of the verb.
