LE05: PREPARING THE LEARNING

ENVIRONMENT: AN OVERVIEW

PARTICIPATE AND ASSIST AND NOTICE

What will you do to assist your mentoring in setting up a conducive learning environment
in the following conditions:
1. Bulletin Board Display search the internet for updated images and information
essential for the display.
2. Small Group Discussion let the students form a group, mixing those who are quite
silent and sociable, as well as those who excel and those who are just average, to
balance the ideas in brainstorming.
3. Checking class attendance in a virtual classroom (i.e., google meet or zoom)
encouraging the whole class to open their cameras during discussions to monitor
their participation and attendance during the time.

NOTICE

Learning Environment 1:
 What have you noticed of the display in the class bulletin board? What message or
theme does it convey? Selected trivial questions with answers in every subject area of
the grade-9 students.
 What makes it attractive to the learners? It has a narrative and visual representation of
the terms referred to.
 Does it help in the learning process? How? Yes, the students catch simple yet
essential information for the broadening of basic knowledge for learning.

Learning Environment 2:
 If the teacher is using a distance delivery of learning through the modules, where is
most likely the learning space of the students? It will be mostly on their home
environment.
 Can you describe? where responsibilities at home are present while they are studying
along with the factors that could easily shift their focus to study.
 How can you as a teacher help to make such environment conducive for learning?
To remind them of their productive hours to utilize for learning as well as time for
responsibilities at home and any other factors demanding their attention/participation.

ANALYZE
The examples above, describe two contrasting situations. The first shows that the
learners are in the same room or space while in the second, the learners maybe in
different learning spaces like homes, study hubs or in extreme cases parks or under the
trees. As a teacher, in which of the two situations would you prefer to manage for
learning? Choose between Learning Environment 1 or Learning Environment 2.
I would prefer the first learning environment (classroom) so far, in which the
time for learning is formally set and there is actual interaction with the learners,
monitoring their behaviors and actions of course. The good thing is that the teacher
guides the students well in the learning process without limitations, and it is done in a
precise and formal way.

REFLECT
Based on my noticing and analysis, I realized that
a. I realized that there is still flexibility and easier access when learning is done virtually.
b. I realized that face-to-face learning is more formal and there is actuality in learning
compared to virtual schooling.
c. I realized that the students can be facilitated well by the teacher if learning takes place
through personal communication.

WRITE ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS

OBSERVE
What probable problem may result from the two situations of the learning environment?
Some students have a different point of view on the preferred learning environment,
considering what they feel easier and more accessible way of their learning. While I, as
the teacher want face-to-face learning, other students may want to raise their reasons why
they won’t agree. These concerns, when not addressed right away, can lead to conflicts
and poor performance in the teaching-learning process.
REFLECT
What solutions can I think of to solve the problem? It is then a must to raise a poll,
assessing the number of students who prefer face-to-face learning or virtual. As a teacher,
my role is to meet the needs and concerns of the majority than relying on my own wants
since I am just a facilitator and they will serve as actors in the learning field.
PLAN
How should I do it? First is to plan, and assess the possible or doable things to
implement, then there will be an evaluation to complete the process. With the students’
participation, the goals will be reached and the process will be utilized well to its full
realization.
