National Reading Week, 2022 Report
With the initiation and launch of the National Reading Year in 2015 towards
building a reading habit in students, schools in different regions aim in
fulfilling this goal by conducting different reading activities. Of all, National
Reading Week that is observed in September peaks the attention as we remind
students the importance of reading and in developing a love for reading.
Fancy activities may seem and look fulfilling from the outside, but we believe that reading should be inclusive and that everyone
should get equal opportunities to develop their reading skills. Our week’s reading plan isn’t an attractive and an extravagant one but it
definitely focuses on inclusiveness and equity.
With a short presentation on International Literacy Day by the literary coordinator on 8th of September,
reading week geared up from 9th of September. Independent reading activity was carried out from 9th -
15th September in their own respective classroom upon the monitoring and assistance rendered by the
teachers and staff. The morning assembly was solely called off for the reading purpose and that the
instructional hours are not hampered. Equal importance to both the languages (English and Dzongkha)
was given due importance by keeping each separate day for each language simultaneously. Children
interacted, sought reading guidance and support from their peers and teachers.
Reading week came to a halt on 16th of September where children in their respective classroom
gathered to do a reading review. In groups they shared what they have read so far and some small talk
about their reading to their peers.
