(c) ∑ ex ln(1 + x) 2 giving your answer in three (3) significant figures.
x=1

2. (a) Consider the following hyperbolic equation given in term of constant k such
that cosh2 x = 3 sinh x + k
(i) Find the range of value of k for which the above equation has no real
solution.
(ii) Given that k = 1, find the exact logarithmic form, the solution of the above
equation.
2 tanh A
(b) Prove by using hyperbolic definition that tanh 2A =
1 + tanh2 A
dx

(c) √
x2 + 2x + 2
3. An oil company has two depots A and B with capacities 7000L and 4000L
respectively. The company is to supply oil to three petrol pumps D, E and F
whose requirements are 4500L, 3000L and 3500L respectively. The distance (in
km) between the depots and the pumps is given in the following table
Distance in km

TO/FROM A B
D 7 3
E 6 4
F 3 2

Assuming that the transportation cost of 10L is Tshs 1 per km, how should the
delivery be scheduled in order that the transportation cost is minimum? What is
the minimum cost?
4. (a) The mean and standard deviation of 6 observations are 8 and 6 respectively. If
each observation is multiplied by 3, find the new mean and standard deviation
of the resulting observations.

(b) The table below shows the weight in grams of 120 seeds
Weight 11-20 21-30 31-40 41-50 51-60 61-70 71-80
Frequency 7 24 33 32 14 8 2

Find
(i) Semi interquartile range.
(ii) The mean and standard deviation by using coding method, (Use Assumed
mean as 45.5).
5. (a) (i) What is symmetric difference?
(ii) Given A= {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} and B= {3, 4, 5, 6, 7} find AOB
(b) Use laws of algebra of sets to simplify (A ∩ B0 ) ∪ (A0 ∩ B) ∪ (A ∩ B).
(c) In a survey of 200 students of a school it was found that 120 students study
Mathematics, 90 study physics and 70 study chemistry, 40 study Mathematics
and physics, 30 study physics and chemistry, 50 chemistry and mathematics
and 20 study none of these subjects. Use the formula method to find the
number of students who study all tree subjects.
