Field Study 2 – Participation and Teaching Assistantship 1st Semester/A.Y. 2022-2023
By the time you begin your participation and assistantship, you are expected to
have studied principles of teaching, lesson planning, classroom management,
pedagogy, content and technology in your previous years. Therefore, the theories will
come to life – in your very own hands, so to speak as a future teacher.
This learning experience will expose you to numerous teaching and learning
activities such as lesson planning and actual delivery of lessons. These includes
assessment, utilization of technological tools and as well as grading and reporting.

master that information, provide learners with feedback, and regularly check
for learners’ understanding. If teachers require more time to teach a certain
topic, then this part of the lesson can also be a continuation of a previously
introduced topic.

Effective teachers should have high expectations for their entire class.
Whether a student constantly makes hundreds on tests or a fifty, each
student should be given positive reinforcement in class. Effective teachers
should exhibit positive expectations to ensure each student believes they can
excel. Transmitting positive reinforcement by telling each student they have
high abilities and are a capable learner will allow students to excel to their
highest abilities. In addition, setting positive expectations in the classroom will
help students who do not have proper motivation and support at home.
Effective teachers should always exhibit enthusiasm in the classroom.
Enthusiasm will allow your students to be interested in class discussions and
classroom activities. Effective teachers should speak in expressive ways, not
a monotone style. In addition, gestures with arms and constantly moving
around the classroom will allow your students to be interested in the
classroom discussion. Effective teacher should also maintain eye contact with
their students at all times. Educators need to have proper classroom
management skills in order to be effective teachers. Classroom management
is not about disciplining your class, it deals with how to effectively manage
the classroom. Classroom management deals with how to take roll, keep an
effective grade book and how to discipline students. One of the most
important skills for an effective teacher to master is how to design and
implement lessons in the classroom. Designing lessons involves how to cater

Create Your Syllabus - Your syllabus serves as a road map for students
throughout the course, setting expectations and outlining assignments. Make
sure to include your contact information, office hours, and the best way to contact
you. Offer basic information on accessing the course content and explain course
objectives. Be sure to clearly state your grading criteria and any class policies. If
you will penalize students who turn in work late, make sure they know what time
assignments must be returned.
Explore the Learning Platform - Online teaching platforms offer a wealth of
resources. Spend time learning how to use your platform before the start of the
course. Find out if your school or employer offers training sessions or
instructional coaching. You may also be the first person a student reaches out to
with technical issues. Learn to troubleshoot common problems and make sure
you know who to call if you cannot help a student resolve an issue.
Offer Live Lectures - While many online classes do not require students to log on
at specific times, you can offer students the opportunity. Offering live lectures
through video streaming can facilitate class discussions and provide more
student-teacher interaction. You can include a chat function or other method to
let students ask questions or discuss the material. Be sure to record the session
so you can share the recording with students unable to log in at the time of the
lecture.
Include Graphics and Slides - Charts and graphs can easily communicate
information to students. Many students may learn better with visual
representations of data or key points. Photos and other graphic elements can
also help hold students' attention. Create slide presentations that incorporate

these elements. Your slides can also review key points from lectures and serve
as lecture notes for students. You can send the slides to students after a lecture
so they can use them as a study guide as they prepare for exams.
Use a Variety of Teaching Methods - Teaching online allows you to be creative.
In addition to recorded lectures and reading assignments, you can use interactive

together while working remotely. Identify software that's available through the
school, such as a subscription to Microsoft Teams, or free services like Zoom.
Include accountability measures to ensure all team members participate in group
assignments.

during instruction for teachers to assess learner’s understanding with purpose
of improving teaching or learning. The information collected on student

and strategies to facilitate learning.

Take for example a case when students are tasked to write a paragraph
and the rubrics on how they will be assessed was shared to them. As
students assess their work and/or with their peers with the use of scoring
rubrics, they learn on their own what a good paragraph is. At the same
time, as they are engaged in self-assessment, they learn about themselves
as learners, as paragraph writers, and become aware of how they learn.
Thus, in assessment as learning, students set their targets, actively monitor
and evaluate their own learning in relation to their set target. As a
consequence, they become self-directed and independent learners. By
assessing their own learning, they are learning at the same time.

To have an effective and efficient teaching, first we should know the objectives of
the lesson we will teach to students. We should also know and learn the teaching
strategies that we will use. Knowing also the differences of the learners and their
learning styles is also a good way to achieve an effective and efficient teaching. This
would not be effective if we do not consider the differences of the students because
there will be students who will be left behind. As teacher, we need to know if our
students are learning. One of the ways to know if the students are learning is to assess
their learning through giving activities and tasks. Since I will be a teacher of Edukasyon
sa Pagpapakatao, the best way to have and effective and efficient teaching is to teach
students through experiential learning. Students will learn the values that we teach to
them when they interact and engage with the world and people around them.
Cite your experiences and realizations in preparing your lesson plan and in
actual demo-teaching.
My experiences in preparing my lesson plan are great. I was very lucky because
I ended up with a resource teacher who is very hands-on and I can say that she really
does her duty as a teacher. I enjoyed my experiences in preparing lesson plan because
it was a challenge for me but I know that it will prepare me to become an effective and
efficient teacher someday. Even though actual demo teaching wasn’t easy for me, I was
happy because I was assigned to students who were very kind, respectful, and really
obeyed the teacher. They are also active in class and smart. I can say that my actual
demo-teaching is good but not perfect since it is my first time to teach in front of the
class. I am very thankful because Ms. Sheena Mae D. Tuplano was my resource
teacher. I learned so many lessons from her that I can use when I become a

professional teacher. Right from the beginning of our FS2, I saw determined she was to
help us kearn to be a good teacher in the future. Even though I made mistakes in my
demo-teaching, she didn’t forget to smile and motivate me to strive more. I will not forget
the memories I made with Grade 5 students and to my resource teacher in Laboratory
Schools.
In what ways will you weigh students fairly using different assessment
tools? What is best assessment? What techniques are you going to use to assess
students’ learning in the new normal? Your own learning?
The best assessment tool to weigh students fairly is through portfolio. Since we
are in the new normal, portfolio is the best assessment tool because it collects evidence
to demonstrate mastery of a given set of concepts. Through portfolio the students’
knowledge can be assessed fairly because it is their individual works, and the teacher
will know if the students are learning through the resukts of their work. Exam and
performance-based assessment are also the one of the best ways to weigh students
fairly since it illustrates how the students’ learning has progressed.

My teaching went smoothly because I saw how much the students wanted to
listen to me while I was teaching, and they participated well. I also observed that they
learned from my lesson because almost all students raised their hands when I asked
questions and they were very active in the group activity I gave to them. I am also
confident with a little nervouseness before I enter the classroom to teach because I

my first time to teach and I know there’s still room for improvement for me.
