EDUC 201 - ADVANCED RESEARCH METHODS AND TECHNIQUES
1. In your own point of view, what is research and why is it important?
2. One of the steps in planning a research study is to conduct a review of the literature on one’s topic. Explain
how you would perform a review of the research literature on a topic in education.

each chapter briefly.

EDUC 202 - STATISTICS

1. What is Statistics and why is it important in the field of Sciences and research?
 Statistics are used to describe the variability inherent in data in a quantitative fashion, and to quantify
relationships between variables. Statistical analysis is used in designing scientific studies to increase
consistency, measure uncertainty, and produce robust datasets. Statistic is important in the field of
science and research
because it allows us to draw conclusions from a set of data and is often called the “Science of Data.” It
can also help people in every industry answer their research or business questions, and can help predict
outcomes.
2. There are two types of research statistics; the descriptive statistics and the inferential statistics. Describe
each type by giving particular situations on how they apply.

3. There are two ways by which a hypothesis can be stated; the null hypothesis and the alternative hypothesis.
Given the situation that a researcher would like to find if the use of Learners’ Module (LMs) for individual
learning activity is effective in improving academic performance, how could the null and the alternative
hypotheses be stated?
4. In a research study conducted by a teacher, she tested the relationship between learners’ academic
performance and their profile. The results indicated that parents’ highest educational attainment has a
computed probability value of (p = 0.00015) at 0.05 level of significance. What does this finding mean and
what does it imply?
5. Lea Angelica performed an experiment to test the hypothesis that “there is no relationship between socio-
demographic profile and academic performance of the learners”. By random procedures she selected 25
students in each of the two sections of grade 9. She tested her hypothesis using correlation statistics at 0.05
significance level. After analyzing the data, her finding yielded a provability value of (p = 0.078025) for age.
Is she going to accept or reject the null hypothesis? What does this finding mean, and what does it imply?

EDUC 203 - FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION

1. Discern how philosophies and theories of education influence teaching and learning in schools, particularly
