    The Bear Conservationist


    Jack Hanna is an American
    zookeeper and animal expert.
    He enjoyed working with
    animals at a young age and
    volunteered with a local
    veterinarian when he was a
    child. When he was an adult,
    he became a zookeeper and
    eventually became the director
    of Columbus Zoo in Ohio, in the
    US. When he joined the zoo, it
    was dirty and the animals lived in cages. After the zoo was closed for the day, Jack
    would walk around picking up the trash. He built new animal habitats at the zoo so
    that the animals didn’t live inside cages. Jack went on television to educate adults and
    children about animal habitats and the conservation of wild animals. Now, lots of
    people visit Columbus Zoo every year and learn about different wild animals.
